Our aim is to build a circle of encouragement andsupport for all pharmacy students worldwide to become proactively involved in increasingawareness among health professionals, as well as the general public, about the importance of healthy lifestyle in the prevention and care of chronic disease. Together, we as pharmacystudents can make a difference.

    Where to start?

A lot of ideas can be done for the Healthy Living and Diabetes AwarenessCampaign.

Here are some potential venues that you may choose do your campaignat:

    Hospitals Community pharmacies

    Universities

    Schools

    Squares and public places

LIVE IN A WORLD OF INNOVATION AND MAKE SURE YOU WILL MAKESOMETHING CREATIVE

You can do a march to increase awareness of healthy life andphysical activities

You can give each person of the audience a small gift if they giveyou a fact about diabetes

Lots and lots can be done

If you have never done a diabetes campaign before, it is fine to startsmall.

Why is this an importantissue for pharmacy students andpharmacists?

The World Diabetes Day 2009-2013theme is Diabetes Education andPrevention.

As a key player in providing primaryhealth care to the public, pharmacists are in the ideal positionto act within the realms of preventative medicine andeducation, in order to ensure thatthe community is aware of all risksassociated with diabetes. Promotinga healthy lifestyle is fundamental, and in some instances this may alsoinclude pharmaceutical careintervention.

In this case, the pharmacist is in theperfect position to combine theirknowledge of medication with non-pharmaceutical aspects of patientcare. Pharmacists are often the mostaccessible and most visited healthcare professionals within the patientcare community, and must use thisposition to positively influencepatients who may not otherwise seek help for their current or foreseeablehealth concerns.
