MEMBER BENEFITSWhen you joined the Indiana Restaurant Association you made an investment. Now, it’s time to maximize the return on that investment. IRA’s comprehensive member benefit programs provide you with discounts on services you need, help you attract new customers and keep you informed and at the forefront of the industry. Following, you will find a complete list of benefits and services the Association offers. If you have any questions or would like more information don’t hesitate to contact us.

I was naïve to the importance of the Indiana Restaurant Association until I became a

Board Member and saw all the ‘behind-the-scenes’ issues that affect our industry.

If you think it is important to be informed about issues that legislators are voting on

about YOUR restaurant or if you would like to work with fellow peers that face the same

day-to-day issues as you – then you should be a member! I used to be an owner that

just overlooked the Association as ‘another’ organization to pay dues to; but, I was sadly

mistaken. It is THE one organization that every Indiana restaurant owner should be a

member of.

SAVE ON FOOD SAFETY AND ALCOHOL SERVER TRAINING

ServSafe food safety training meets Indiana certification requirements and provides real-world practical advice about implementation of safe food handling practices in your establishment. IRA members receive a discounted rate for ServSafe training and examination.

• Multi-media training• Experienced instructors• Practical knowledge• Nationally recognized certification

www.indianarestaurants.org

As Indiana law evolves, the requirements for safe preparation of food and alcohol servers become increasingly more regulated for restaurateurs. IRA has stepped up to make sure its members can easily obtain the certifications and education needed to meet state requirements at discounted prices with premier certification programs.

19

SERVSAFE ALCOHOL- ALCOHOL SERVER TRAININGResponsible alcohol service is an issue that touches your business, your customers and your community. Getting customer interaction “right” requires experience, assessment, customization, and collaboration. ServSafe Alcohol delivers much more than training. It combines critical information,

exclusive tools and real-world resources to transform knowledge into action.

Indiana law requires that you or your representative attend an Indiana certified server or trainer course every five years. Additionally all licensed servers must attend an Indiana certified server course every three years.

Your association is offering both Train the Trainer Classes as well as Server Training classes using a nationally recognized program – ServSafe Alcohol. This program has been approved as a certified program in Indiana.

Designed to be a real-world training solution, it features practical knowledge and best-in-class resources that help prepare and protect every operation every day.

EDUCATION FIRSTEducation First is a nationally recognized proactive program that promotes the food service industry as a desirable employer of youth and encourages operators to become involved with the education of their student employees by improving communication between employers, parents and school officials. Education First was developed in cooperation with the Indiana Department of Labor.

DINE FOR AMERICAEach time tragedy has stuck, the nation’s restaurants have quickly mobilized and responded with a national display of support by participating in Dine for America. In times of need the National Restaurant Association and the Restaurant & Hospitality Association of Indiana have called upon the Indiana food service industry and restaurants nationwide to rally together for certain causes. On a specified date, participating restaurants donate all or a percentage of their earnings to benefit those struck by tragedy. In 2001, Dine for America participants collectively raised more than $20 million for the victims of September 11. More recently, over 17,000 restaurants participated to raise funds for hurricane victims in the South.

UNICEF TAP PROJECTIn 2007, the UNICEF Tap Project was born in New York City based on a simple concept: restaurants would ask their patrons to donate $1 or more for the tap water they usually enjoy for free, and all funds raised would support UNICEF’s efforts to bring clean and accessible water to millions of children around the world.

Growing from just 300 New York City restaurants in 2007 to thousands across the country today, the UNICEF Tap Project has quickly become a powerful national movement.

During World Water Week, March 20-26, 2011, the UNICEF Tap Project will once again raise awareness of the world water crisis and vital funds to help the millions of children it impacts daily. All funds raised support UNICEF’s water, sanitation and hygiene programs, and the effort to bring clean and accessible water to millions of children around the world.UNICEF’s Role

UNICEF has saved more children’s lives than any other humanitarian organization, and UNICEF is committed to doing whatever it takes to achieve the goal of reaching the day when ZERO children die of preventable causes. Currently, UNICEF provides access to safe water and sanitation facilities while promoting safe hygiene practices in more than 100 countries.

In alignment with the United Nations Millennium Development Goals, UNICEF is working with its partners to reduce the number of people without access to safe water and basic sanitation by 50% by 2015, which will also save children at risk from waterborne illnesses, the second highest cause of preventable childhood deaths.

NRA FACES OF DIVERSITY AWARDSThe National Restaurant Association celebrates diversity and inclusion with its Faces of Diversity awards and is now encouraging restaurant companies and industry professionals to apply for the 2011 awards.

The Faces of Diversity awards program, created in partnership with PepsiCo Foodservice, aims to raise awareness of the importance of diversity and inspire others to expand their diversity efforts. The deadline to apply is December 17, 2010, and applications/nominations are being accepted online at www.restaurant.org/diversity.

“Our industry is full of amazing people of all cultures and backgrounds, which is one of the reasons it is so vibrant and unique,” says Dawn Sweeney, NRA’s president and chief executive. “The restaurant industry is one of the most diverse industries in the country. We celebrate this uniqueness with our Faces of Diversity awards to emphasize that diversity strengthens the fabric of the restaurant community nationwide.”

The Faces of Diversity awards program celebrates diversity in the restaurant industry in two categories—the American Dream Award and the Inspiration Award. The American Dream Award honors individuals from diverse backgrounds who, through hard work and determination, have realized the American dream. The Inspiration Award honors restaurant companies that have exhibited leadership and vision as an advocate of diversity and inclusion.

The 2011 Faces of Diversity awards will be presented at the National Restaurant Association’s Public Affairs Conference in Washington, D.C., in March.
