On Summer Hiatus…

Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Sunday Seisiun do not meet in the months of July and August. The weekly Set Dancing ended on June 29

th and will resume on September

7th.

This and that… We had a fabulous turnout for the Retiree Dinner on June 12

th with

about 100 members attending. Eve-ryone was thrilled with the fabulous meal and happy to get together with friends old and new. Many thanks to Betty Mohan, who organizes the res-ervations and is instrumental in the success of these dinners, and to Lil Holleran who presides over the kitch-en, ensuring a perfectly cooked meal. Thanks also to Mary Sayers DaMot-ta, Barb Hedges, Eileen McGee, Myles McGee, Ann Purcell-Murray, Eileen K. Moore, Liz Saunders and Allen Scarfone for helping to make this event such a success. Watch your newsletter for the next dinner in the fall. Congratulations to Devin Moran, the recipient of the Kathleen Mulcahy Miskell Treble Reel Perpetual Tro-phy at the 51

st Hartford Feis held on

June 5th. Devin is the daughter of

Brian and Sarah Moran and she dances with the Mulcahy Academy of Irish Dance. Many thanks to members of Glaston-bury Celtic Football Club and Hart-ford GAA for continuing to main-tain our fields and grounds. Mowing our vast property is a daunting task but these two organizations work well together to keep the pitch and sur-rounding property in tip top shape.

BUSINESS NETWORKING Join us Tuesday, July 19th, 2016, for our next "Irish First" Business Networking Group meet-ing (third Tuesday of the month) from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. in the downstairs lounge. Our special guest, Penn Rhodeen, renowned author of his new book “PEACERUNNER - The True Story of How an Ex-Congressman Helped End the Centuries of War in Ireland”. “This is a must read.”—Liam Neeson, with the forward by President Bill Clinton. “Irish First" is a free monthly event, open to all members who would like to meet and network with other Irish business owners and professionals to help grow your business or profession. Our group has been growing every month with new members and guests. Food is provided by Enda Flynn of Flynn's Grille. Please bring a few bucks to donate for the food, and enjoy the camaraderie with a pint or two! Call Ed Patterson to register at (860) 215-1349 or [email protected]. SIGN IN YOUR GUESTS! PROTECT YOUR

CLUB! State liquor control laws mandate that private clubs maintain a guest book where non-member guests are required to register and be signed in by the member. Please ensure that your guests are properly signed in…help protect your club! Failure to comply with the liquor laws may result in fines or other pen-alties such as closure of our pub for a period determined by the Liquor Control Commission. Please remember that you are responsible for the conduct of your guests and they must de-part the premises when you depart…no excep-tions. This is your club…protect it at all times! Thank you for your cooperation.

Memorial Funds Please consider naming one of two funds the IAHS has established over the years to receive memorial donations upon your death. Both funds are intended to memorialize our de-ceased loved ones while benefiting our mem-bers . The first is our Scholarship Fund which was established to grant educational scholar-ships to the children of members in good stand-ing. Scholarships are awarded in June of each year. The second fund is our Building Renova-tion Fund, established to help fund the pro-posed new building and renovation of the exist-ing building.

Newsletter deadline is the 15th of the month for

inclusion in the next month’s edition. Send contributions, in WORD FORMAT, to [email protected].

A REMINDER… Children must be accompanied by their par-ents when in the pub. They may sit at a ta-ble but state liquor control laws prohibit them from sitting at the bar and from ordering food or beverage at the bar. Parents…you must order and purchase snacks, candy and beverages for your children. Children should also not run through the club, nor congregate on the front stairs or in the back hallway. This is for the safety of the children and our other members and guests. We love our families that come and support the club. We want to provide a safe environ-ment for all of our members to enjoy. Thanks for your cooperation. IRISH NORTHERN AID The Hartford Unit of Irish Northern Aid meets the 3

rd Friday of every month at 8:00 p.m. in

the downstairs hall of the Irish American Home. Since 1970, the Irish Northern Aid Committee has been at the forefront in sup-port of the struggle for freedom, justice, and self-determination for all the people of Ire-land. For more information, please contact Tom McBride (860)983-0846.

HONOR GUARD It is this Society’s tradition to honor our de-ceased members by the presence of an Honor Guard at the funeral service and inter-ment. While we have several dedicated members who faithfully participate in this tradition, we would like to ensure a full com-plement at each service. If you are interest-ed in participating when the need arises, please contact Charlie Murray at (860)633-0663 or Kathleen Blake at [email protected] or (860)633-0587. The Honor Guard will participate in the funeral services for all members when the member has previ-ously requested or the family requests our services. If you would like to have an Honor Guard at a member’s funeral, please call Charlie or Kathleen to advise them of the arrangements.

WEEKLY CARD GAME Enjoy playing cards? Every Thursday even-ing at 7 p.m. in the downstairs lounge, mem-bers and guests are invited to join in a friend-

ly game of Setback.
