These are of three types depending on the colour of theseeds, namely, white, brown and black.0.3 Formulation of this standard has been taken up in order to meet theneed felt for precise and acceptable methods for grading of oilseeds producedand marketed in the country. This standard is based on the trade practicesfollowed in the country in respect of the types and grades. Sesame seedsare generally intended for oil milling; the better grades are, however, suitablefor use in the preparation of sweets and confectionery. The oil obtainedfrom these seeds is covered in IS: 547.1963· and IS: 4220E-1967t.0.4 For the purpose of deciding whether a particular requirement of thisstandard is compiled with. the final value, observed or calculated, expressingthe result of a test or analysis, shall be rounded off in accordance withIS : 2..1960t. The number of significant places retained in the rounded offvalue should be the same as that of the specified value in this standard.

1. SCOPE

1.1 This standard prescribes the methods of grading and the requirementsfor sesame seeds for oil milling, along with the relevant methods ofsamplingand test.

2. TERMINOLOGY

2.1 For the purpose of this standard, the definitions given in IS : 3579-1966§shall apply.
