• Islam has a holy Book, like Christianity. That book is called the Quran. Quran means recite and that is what the Angel Gabriel told Muhammad to do..

• THE BOOKS

• It is perfect and only reliable in the Arabic form. You can not truly know Allah and you can not know the true absolute meaning of Allah and his religion in any other language other than Arabic. Arabic is the divine language that is written on the stone in heaven (85:21-22)

Besides the Quran, Islam has the hadiths and Sunna. The hadiths and Sunna are both referred to as the traditions of Muhammad, but there is a difference.

• The sunna is the Sharia Law (the path) and is the authoritative ruling among Islamic states. It depicts the events of the life of Muhammad, and offers examples for ethics and living.

• The hadith is similar to the sunna, but not identical. Each hadith is a narration from the life of Muhammad and what he said, as opposed to a biographical sketch.

• In the Hadith you will find something Muhammad did, said, something that happened in Muhammad’s presence, words of God to Muhammad that are not in the Quran. It is story type material, but make no doubt about it…It happened and the Islamic religion would be broken without it.

• The word Sunna has a basic meaning of customary practice or model behavior. The sunna is prior to the hadith just like the traditions of your family are prior to any oral or written accounts.

• Reading a hadith can go a long way toward helping the Christian understand the lifestyle of a Muslim. The hadith decrees such actions as:

• Sitting cross-legged in prayer with the right leg on top (muftarishan; Bukhari, 784);

• Sacrificing a camel while it is standing up, and it’s left foreleg is tied (Bukhari, 1598);

• Passing a drinking vessel to one’s right (Muslim, 3785);

• Dividing one’s time equally among co-wives (Bukhari, 4813).

• Although the Quran, hadiths, and sunna were written many years after the bible, with better writing materials, and a larger following, they still can not produce a single ancient manuscript even coming close to the death of Muhammad for the Quran, the hadiths, or the sunna.

• As for the Sunna and the hadith it is kind of like the Catholic traditions. These traditions of Muhammad have been passed down orally from generation to generation. Many scholars agree that the Quran and other documents would have been passed down orally from generation to generation.

ODD TEACHINGS OF THE HADITH

• HADITH 4.537 – “ Mohammad said, ‘If a housefly falls in the drink of anyone of you, he should dip it (in the drink), for one of it’s wings has a disease and the other has the cure for the disease”

• Bukhari 4:546 – “Mohammad said “As for the child, if the man’s discharge is precedes the woman’s discharge the child attracts the similarity of the Man…” – (same if the Woman is 1st).

ODD TEACHINGS OF THE HADITH

• HADITH 7.636 – Muhammad was a superstitious man. He taught that “the effect of an evil eye is a fact”

• HADITH 7.747 - “If you want to put on your shoes, put on the right shoe first, and if you want them off, take off the left one first”

• HADITH 7.619 – “Fever is from the heat of hell, so put it out (cool it) with water”

• Bukhari 4:779 – food talked to Muhammad while he was eating it

• Bukhari 2:41; 4:783 – a tree cried because Muhammad would not preach neat it, and after Muhammad comforted the tree, it stopped crying.

For this to be true the trees and food would have to have at least lungs, a respiratory system, vocal cords and a tongue. One has to wonder if you could be more absurd that this?

• In the hadith, Muhammad explains the cause of fever and the reason for high body temperatures they come from the fire of Hell (Bukhari 4:483; 486). From today’s medical studies, we know the real cause of fevers.

• Bukhari 1:242 – Muhammad sometimes spat on his clothes

• Bukhari 3:891 – Muhammad let people catch his own spit and rub it on their faces and skin

• Bukhari 1:188 – to someone else he ejected a mouthful of water on them

• Now the majority of Muslims hold the hadiths just as doctrinal as the Quran. Over the years some Muslims tried to go sola Quran, like we do with the bible, but they ended up dead or threaten with death and they had to Change. It is a very serious thing, once you take out the traditions of Muhammad then that leaves questions for the Quran and even the life of Muhammad. • Muslims believe that Jewish and Christian scriptures prophesied his coming. Muslims now identify the Holy Spirit whom Jesus promises to send (John 14:16) with the prophet of Islam. Muhammad says he is the one in response to Abraham and Jesus, the ones who gave good news about him (Ibn Sa’d, vol. 1, 169).

• The greatest prophet of Islam was a member of the Quraysh tribe of Mecca, which is an important center for trade and religion in Arabia. Mecca housed Ka’ba which is a very important shrine among the people of Arabia. Thousands made pilgrimage to Ka’ba who would visit to see and touch a very important stone contained therein. They also left gifts before the idols. This rock was the rock God who Muhammad worshiped before the Angel Gabriel intervened.

• Muhammad was born in 570 A.D., in the house of his grandfather Abdul Muttalib. His father Abdullah died during one of his trading missions before Muhammad’s birth, his mother was Amina. His grandfather named him to be praised on heaven and on earth. Muhammad was raised by his uncle Abu Talib.

Muhammad says he was raised for jihad and not for tillage. He met a distant cousin, and traveled as a salesman to Syria and to trade her goods. He did such a great job that she, Khadijah, wanted to marry him. When he was 25, he married his first wife Khadijah who was 40, and managed her holdings and trade.

• After his wife died (Muhammad being 50 yrs. Old) Allah gave Muhammad the “Eternal word in Heaven” when he gave Muhammad the inspiration of Surah 33:51 – “take to yourself any you wish” giving Muhammad the ability to have anyone as his wife and the number was unlimited.

fitting that you should fear Allah. Then did Zaid had

dissolved (his marriage) with her we joined her in marriage to

you: in order that in the future There may be no difficulty to

the Believers in (the matter of) marriage with the wives of the

adopted sons, when the latter have dissolved their marriage

with Them. And Allah’s command must be fulfilled. (Surah

33:37)

• You see that Muhammad had to give excuses for his disgusting actions. The Quran of course gives a passage that it was ok for Muhammad to marry more than four wives as he instructs all Muslims. Many times in the Quran we have an incident, like with one of his wives Zaynab, and Allah reveals another portion of the Quran to support what Muhammad was Doing -

• If he truly was the chosen one, his knowledge and power was certainly limited. As for Jesus he was an awesome powerful son of God who knew the hearts and mind of men.

Many Muslims try to make Muhammad sound like a great prophet who had trustworthy and innocent plan at mind. They try to make the fact that he is a womanizer into making his marriages for treaties and ties into other kingdom.

During his early life, Muhammad and his family would travel and leave the city and go into a cooler cave, where they would meditate and connect with their Gods. Get this straight that Muhammad was in that cave, and he was not seeking Allah, he was seeking their Rock God or another of the 365 idols that he served at that time. And during one of these meditations the Angel Gabriel came to him. At the age of 40, Muhammad first declared himself a prophet from Allah

MUHAMMAD RECEIVING THE QURAN

The angel Gabriel commanded him to read and recite. Muhammad

replied I do not know how to read (You would think that God would

know this). The angel pressed his will upon Muhammad in a terrifying

fashion.

The angel caught me and pressed me so hard that I could not bear it

anymore. He then released me and again asked me to read, and I

replied I do not know how to read. Thereupon he caught me up again to read, but I again replied I do not

know how to read .

Then he caught me for the third time and pressed me and then

released me and said “Read in the name of your lord, who has created

(all that exists). He has created man from a clot. Read! And your

lord is most generous … unto….that which he knew not.

This famous verse is now found in sura 96:1-5. These messages would

continue for the rest of his life. At the beginning of his spiritual encounter

Muhammad encountered considerable agitation. He suffered much pain and his face turned discolored (Ibn Sa’d, Vol. 1, 227). He wondered if he had

been demonically possessed, and even contemplated suicide.

“I will go to the top of the mountain and throw myself down that I may kill myself and gain rest. So I went forth to do so and then when I was midway on the mountain, I herd a

voice from heaven saying.

“O Muhammad! Thou art an apostle of God and I am Gabriel.” I raised my head toward heaven to

see and lo, Gabriel in the form of a man with feet astride the horizon, saying “O Muhammad! Thou art

the apostle of God and I am Gabriel (Ibn Ishaq. 106).”

Then he returned to his wife and she covered him until his fear was over, then he told her all that had

happened. And he repeated to her “Woe is me poet of possessed.” He

meant “poet” in the sense of one who received ecstatic, and possibly demonic, visions (Ibn Ishaq. 106).

According to Islamic tradition There were many ways that Allah revealed

the Quran to Muhammad. “Sometimes it is revealed like the

ringing of a bell, this form of Inspiration is the hardest of all and

then this state passes off after I have grasped what is inspired

(Bukhari, Vol. 1, Book 1, no. 2.).”

On another occasions he explained: “The revelation dawned upon me in

two ways – Gabriel brings it and conveys it to me as a man and that makes me restless. And it dawns upon my heart and this does make me restless (Ibn Sa’d, vol. 1, 228).”

Aisha noted “when revelations descended upon Allah’s messenger

even during the cold days, his forehead perspired (Imam Muslim,

Sahih Muslim, Abdul Hamid Siddiqi, trans., Kitab Bhavan, revised edition

2000, book 30, no. 5764.)

• Also when inspiration came to him “he felt a burden on that account and the color of his face underwent a change,” and “he lowered his head and so lowered his companions their heads, and when this state was over, he raised his head (Muslim, book 30, nos. 5766 and 5767).”

Allah himself is the original speaker throughout virtually all the Quran (Occasionally Muhammad seems to have lapsed a bit on this point: SURAH 48:27, for example, contains the words “if Allah wills” – an odd phrase for Allah himself to be using). Most often he would talk to Muhammad directly on matters giving him instructions on what laws to lay down (SURAH 2:222).

• But often the matter at hand is not so straight forward: reading the Quran is in many places like walking in on a conversation between two people with whom one is only slightly acquainted. When Islamic apologists say terrorists quote the Quran on jihad it is out of context. In fact the Quran itself offers little context.

• Surah 10:64 – No change can there be in the words of Allah

• Surah 6:34 – There is none that can alter the words of Allah…

ABROGATION - • DESTRUCTION OR ANULLING A FORMER

LAW BY AN ACT OF LEGISLATIVE POWER, CONSTITUTIONAL AUTHORITY, OR BY USAGE

• Surah 2:106 – Allah can change order/commandments

• Surah 13:39 – Allah establishes whatever he wills

• Surah 16:101 – can exchange a message for a message

Problems with Abrogation 1. The Quran can not be trusted because it has

“divinely inspired” contradictions. If God has a history of abrogating his own revelation, the “Eternal Speech of God,” how can one be certain he will not abrogate it again? It may be argued that it cannot be abrogated in the future, since Muhammad was the “Seal of Prophets,” but how do we know that God will not abrogate it again in the future?

2. If God can abrogate his eternal speech, how can we trust him with our eternal soul? Shall we depend on his mercy and compassion? How do we know he will continue to be as merciful in the future? How do we know that he has been merciful in the past since the mercy sections could be substitutions?

3. If God can abrogate past revelations it seems to indicate intellectual weakness at the very least. It not only causes a problems with omniscience, since he did not have sufficient knowledge to avoid that need of abrogation, but also for omnipotence as well as other attributes.

4. If the Muslim God is not consistent, then his creatures have no foundation for morality and ethics. Ethics must either be absolute invariant and universal or not. There is no third option.

5. If God has done abrogating, it does not indicate progressive revelation, which is additive. It indicates contradiction and annulment, which subtracts from revelation, since at least some portion of past revelation has been canceled. This would mean that God did not know the future or he purposely changed his mind. So the God of Islam is either all-knowing or is a liar.

ODD TEACHINS

IN THE QURAN

• Surah 18:25 – tells the story of some men who slept in a cave for 309 years. (why they did not die very soon due to dehydration and lack of sunlight is not explained)

• Surah 20:53 – talks of God who has, “…made the earth for you like a carpet spread out…” (see also 71:19). This could hardly be a clearer way of describing the earth as flat. The Quran repeatedly refers to how the earth is “wide” or “spread out” (Quran 13:3; 15:19; 18:7; 19:6; 21:30)

• That flat-earth is seen in the fact that Muslims have to pray five times a day facing Mecca. To pray with your back to Mecca, would be sacrilegious. They are not allowed to even go to the toilet facing Mecca, either (Bukhari 1:146-151). From a flat-earth view point, this makes sense. But we know today, be on a spherical globe, that if you pray facing Mecca, you have your back to Mecca at the same time your face is toward Mecca (and vice-versa)

• Surah 38:18 – The hills praised Allah and the mountains were afraid (33:72). It talks of the Mountains as if they were Hollow and will one day collapse – 19:90; 56:5; Bukhari 9:75.

• Surah 30:24 – This God breaks the clouds into fragments so that rain can fall.

• Surah 41:11 – The clouds talked to this God and said “We do come together, in willing obedience.”

• Surah 21:33 – And he it is who created the night and the day and the sun and the moon. All float in orbits. (So the sun moves in Orbit?) – also 2:258, 36:40, 52:49, 53:1

• Surah 36:38 – And the sun runs into a resting place – we know today from science and astronomy that it is the earth that spins, not the sun.

Does Allah forgive Shirk (idolatry)?

NO!!!

Surah 4:48, 116 – Surly Allah forgives not that a partner should be set up with him, and forgives all besides that whom he pleases. And whoever sets up a partner with him, he devises indeed a great sin

Surah 4:153, 25:68-71 - …They took the calf for a God, after clearer signs had come to them, but we pardoned this, and we gave Moses clear authority

Alexander the Great• Surah 18:89-98 – says

that Alexander the Great was a devout Muslim and lived to ripe old age.

• Historical records show that Alexander that Great died young at 33 years of age. He believed he was divine and forced others to recognize him as such. In India on the Hyphasis River Alexander erected twelve Altars to the Olympians Gods.

Ezra the son of God

• Surah 9:30 – says the Jews believe that Ezra is the Son of God – the Messiah

• This has never been a tenet of Judaism

The Golden Calf

• Surah 20:90-100 – says a Samaritan helped the Israelites build the golden calf, and it mooed after coming out of the fire

• Samaritans did not exist as a people until at least 1000 years after the time of Moses and the Israelite exodus from Egypt

HOW THE QURAN VIEWS THE BIBLE

• Many Muslims scholars say that the bible was corrupted by Christians and Jews; and no longer has the true meaning of Islam…Let’s take a look at what the Quran says about the bible…not what Islamic scholars say -

• Surah 5:46 - We sent forth Jesus, the son of Mary, to follow in the footsteps of the prophets, confirming the Torah which was before him, and we gave him the Gospel with its guidance and light, confirmatory of the preceding Torah; a guidance and warning to those who fear God. Therefore let the people of the Gospel judge according to what God has sent down therein. Evildoers are those that do not judge according to God's revelations

• SURAH 5:68 – People of the Book! (Christians)… Stand fast by the Law, the Gospel, and all the revelation that hath come to you from your Lord. It is the revelation that has come to thee from you Lord

• Surah 2:136 – “Say ye: ‘We believe in Allah, and the revelation given to us, and to Abraham, Ismail, Jacob, and the Tribes, and that given to Moses, and Jesus, and that given to all prophets from their Lord: We make no difference between them

• Surah 4:163 – We have revealed to you as we have revealed to Noah and the Prophets after him, to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and the tribes, to Jesus, Job, Jonah, Aaron, Solomon, and David, to whom we gave the Psalms.

• Surah 10:94 – if you are in doubt concerning what we have revealed To you then question those that have read the scriptures before you.

• Surah 5:44 – We sent down the Torah in which there is guidance and light

• Surah 40:71 - Those who treat the Book, and the message we have sent through our apostles, as a lie, will know the truth hereafter: when, with chains and collars around their necks, they shall be dragged through scalding water and burned in the fire of hell."

Conflictions with the bible

• Pharaoh’s wife adopted Moses – Surah 28:9

• Exodus 2:10 – states that Pharaoh’s daughter adopted Moses, but the Quran says that is was his wife. Had Pharaoh’s wife adopted Moses he would have been the son of Pharaoh himself and heir to Egypt’s throne

• The Godhead includes Mary – Surah 5:116

This Surah states that Christians worship three gods: The father, the mother Mary, the Son Jesus.

Also….

• For whatever reason the Quran badly misrepresents Christian teaching. A similar misrepresentation occurs in Surah 5:73-75 – “They do Blaspheme who say: Allah is one of three.” Obviously the accusation is against Christians and is an errant assumption that the god head makes God one of three. Christianity teaches God is one…ONE GOD…

Pharaoh and the Tower of babble (Surah 28:38;

40:25) –

• The Quran teaches that a man named Haman, a servant of Pharaoh, built a high tower to ascend to God. But the Babel tower occurs in Genesis 11, long before there are Pharaohs. The only “Haman” in scripture is in the story of Esther in Babylon, long after the height of Egypt’s glory.

Samaritan built the Israelite calf (Surah 20:85-97)

• The Quran says that the calf worshiped by the Israelites at Mount Horeb was molded by a Samaritan. The Term Samaritan was not coined until 722 B.C., several hundred years after the Exodus, when the Idol was crafted.

• JESUS WAS NOT CRUCIFIED – SURAH 4:157

• The Jews boast in Surah 4:157 – “We killed Christ Jesus the son of Mary, the Apostle of Allah”, - but they killed him not, nor crucified him, but so it was made to appear to them.”

• Allah view a life so worthless that He switched Jesus with this imposter to be crucified…How gracious of Allah….

•NEVER HAPPENED!!!

Modern Scholars have condemned the Bible because it does not match according

to the Quran…Muhammad has come to correct the misunderstanding of God and call all others back to the true faith of the

former prophets

• Muhammad referred to these books to settle a dispute – Surah 3:93-94.

• Muslims believe in the Books the Jews possessed – Surah 4:162 – (How can Muhammad be asked to believe in the books if they had already been corrupted?)

• He is directed to bid the Muslims to believe in the Previous Books – Surah 2:136

• Muhammad made no distinctions between the reliability of the Quran and the bible – not only are the Muslims required to believe in the bible, they are forbidden from making distinctions – Surah 2:136

• Muhammad asked the Jews to accept the Quran and that the old books confirm Muhammad – Surah 35:31 – Why are the “People of the Book” asked to accept Muhammad because there books confirm him if they were already corrupted?

Muhammad asked the Jews to accept his prophet hood because his coming was fore told in the bible. And if the Quran then appealed to certain passages in the bible as it then existed proof of Muhammad’s claim to be a prophet, does not that show in Muhammad’s time that the bible was not corrupt?

• Surah 3:199 – Why are rewards given to the people of the book if they continue to obey “The Book” (not the Quran)

• Surah 40:70-72/4:136 – Sever Consequences for rejecting the bible

• Surah 46:12/10:37 – Quran is a verification and explanation of the Book of Moses and the Gospels

Many Muslims try to bank on this verse to prove that Muhammad said Christians and Jews corrupted the Scriptures:

• Surah 3:71,78 – You People of the Book! Why do you clothe truth with falsehood and conceal the truth, while you have knowledge?...There is among them a section who distort the Book with their tongues: You would think it is part of the Book, but it is no part of the Book.

SURAH 24:2-3

The adulteress and the adulterer, flog each of them with a hundred stripes, and let not pity for them detain you from obedience to Allah, if you believe in Allah and the last day, and let a party of believers witness their chastisement

SURAH 4:15-16 –

And as for those of your women who are guilty of indecency, call to witness against them four witnesses from among you; so if they bear witness, confine them to the house until death takes them away or Allah opens away for them. And as for the two of you who are guilty of it, give them both a slight punishment; then if they repent and amend, turn aside from them. Surely Allah is oft-returning and merciful.

SURAH 24:4 –

If a person accuses a good woman of sexual misconduct and cannot produce four witnesses, that accuser must be flogged eighty times and never again will their evidence be considered

SURAH 16:106 –

Whoso disbelieves in Allah after his belief – not he who is compelled while his heart is content with faith, but he who opens his breast for disbelief - on them is the wrath of Allah and for them is a grievous chastisement

SURAH 4:34 –

Women who are suspected of disobedience must be scolded, made to sleep alone and beaten. When they return to obedience, no further punishment should be administered. The Quran says that the biblical Character, Job, was commanded to fulfill some unexplained vow by beating his wife (38:44)

As for those from whom ye fear rebellion, admonish them and banish them to beds apart, and beat them – Surah 4:34

And take in your hand a green branch and beat her with It and do not break your oath; Surah 38:44

SURAH 5:38 –

• Men of women who steal must have their hands cut off as a reward of their deeds. This will be an example for others

Non-Muslims in an Islamic State• Concept of "Islamic State"• "An Islamic state is essentially an ideological

state, and is thus radically different from a national state." This statement made by Mawdudi lays the basic foundation for the political, economical, social, and religious system of all Islamic countries which impose the Islamic law. This ideological system intentionally discriminates between people according to their religious affiliations. Mawdudi, a prominent Pakistani Muslim scholar, summarizes the basic differences between Islamic and secular states as follows:

• 1) An Islamic state is ideological. People who reside in it are divided into Muslims, who believe in its ideology and non-Muslims who do not believe.

• 2) Responsibility for policy and administration of such a state "should rest primarily with those who believe in the Islamic ideology." Non-Muslims, therefore, cannot be asked to undertake or be entrusted with the responsibility of policymaking.

• 3) An Islamic state is bound to distinguish (i.e. discriminates) between Muslims and non-Muslims. However the Islamic law "Shari`a" guarantees to non-Muslims "certain specifically stated rights beyond which they are not permitted to meddle in the affairs of the state because they do not subscribe to its ideology." Once they embrace the Islamic faith, they "become equal participants in all matters concerning the state and the government."

The above view is the representative of the Hanifites, one of the four Islamic schools. The other three schools are the Malikites, the Hanbilites (the strictest and the most fundamentalist of all), and the Shafi`ites. All four schools agree dogmatically on the basic creeds of Islam but differ in their interpretations of Islamic law which is derived from four sources:

• a) Qur'an (read or recite): The sacred book of Muslim community containing direct quotes from Allah as allegedly dictated by Gabriel.

• b) Hadith (narrative): The collections of Islamic traditions including sayings and deeds of Muhammad as heard by his contemporaries, first, second, and third hand.

• c) Al-Qiyas (analogy or comparison): The legal decision drawn by Islamic Jurists based on precedent cases.

• d) Ijma' (consensus): The interpretations of Islamic laws handed down by the consensus of reputed Muslim scholars in a certain country.

Classification of Non-Muslims:

Sheikh Najih Ibrahim Ibn Abdullah remarks that legists classify non-Muslims or infidels into two categories: Dar-ul-Harb or the household of War, which refers to non-Muslims who are not bound by a peace treaty, or covenant, and whose blood and property are not protected by the law of vendetta or retaliation; and Dar-us-Salam or the household of Peace, which refers to those who fall into three classifications:

• 1) Zimmis (those in custody) are non-Muslim subjects who live in Muslim countries and agree to pay the Jizya (tribute) in exchange for protection and safety, and to be subject to Islamic law. These enjoy a permanent covenant.

• 2) People of the Hudna (truce) are those who sign a peace treaty with Muslims after being defeated in war. They agree to reside in their own land, yet to be subject to the legal jurisprudence of Islam like Zimmis, provided they do not wage war against Muslims.

• 3) Musta'min (protected one) are persons who come to an Islamic country as messengers, merchants, visitors, or student wanting to learn about Islam. A Musta'min should not wage war against Muslims and he is not obliged to pay Jizya, but he would be urged to embrace Islam. If a Musta'min does not accept Islam, he is allowed to return safely to his own country. Muslims are forbidden to hurt him in any way. When he is back in his own homeland, he is treated as one who belongs to the Household of War.

Islamic Law and ZimmisMuslim Muftis (legal authorities) agree that the contract of the Zimmis should be offered primarily to the People of the Book, that is, Christians and Jews, then to the Magis or Zoroastrians. However, they disagree on whether any contract should be signed with other groups such as communists or atheists. The Hanbalites and the Shafi`ites believe that no contract should be made with the ungodly or those who do not believe in the supreme God. Hanifites and Malikites affirm that the Jizya may be accepted from all infidels regardless of their beliefs and faith in God. Abu Hanifa, however, did not want pagan Arabs to have this option because they are the people of the Prophet. They. must be given only two options: accept Islam or be killed.

• The Jizya (tribute)

Jizya literally means penalty. It is a protection tax levied on non-Muslims living under Islamic regimes, confirming their legal status. Mawdudi states that "the acceptance of the Jizya establishes the sanctity of their lives and property, and thereafter neither the Islamic state, nor the Muslim public have any right to violate their property, honor or liberty." Paying the Jizya is a symbol of humiliation and submission because Zimmis are not regarded as citizens of the Islamic state although they are, in most cases, natives to the country.

• "...to spare the blood (of the Zimmis), is to be a symbol of humiliation of the infidels and as an insult and punishment to them, and as the Shafi`ites indicate, the Jizya is offered in exchange for residing in an Islamic country." Thus Ibn Qayyim adds, "Since the entire religion belongs to God, it aims at humiliating ungodliness and its followers, and insulting them. Imposing the Jizya on the followers of ungodliness and oppressing them is required by God's religion. The Qur'anic text hints at this meaning when it says: `until they give the tribute by force with humiliation.' (Qur'an 9:29). What contradicts this is leaving the infidels to enjoy their might and practice their religion as they wish so that they would have power and authority."

Zimmis and Religious Practices• Muslims believe that the Zimmis are polytheists

for they see the belief in the Trinity as belief in three gods. Islam is the only true religion, they claim. Therefore, to protect Muslims from corruption, especially against the unforgivable sin of shirk (polytheism), its practice is forbidden among Muslims, because it is considered the greatest abomination. When Christians practice it publicly, it becomes an enticement and exhortation to apostasy. It is significant here to notice that according to Muraghi, Zimmis and infidels are polytheists and therefore, must have the same treatment.

According to Muslim jurists, the following legal ordinances must be enforced on Zimmis (Christians and Jews alike) who reside among Muslims:

• 1) Zimmis are not allowed to build new churches, temples, or synagogues. They are allowed to renovate old churches or houses of worship provided they do not allow to add any new construction. "Old churches" are those which existed prior to Islamic conquests and are included in a peace accord by Muslims. Construction of any church, temple, or synagogue in the Arab Peninsula (Saudi Arabia) is prohibited. It is the land of the Prophet and only Islam should prevail there. Yet, Muslims, if they wish, are permitted to demolish all non-Muslim houses of worship in any land they conquer.

• 2) Zimmis are not allowed to pray or read their sacred books out loud at home or in churches, lest Muslims hear their prayers.

• 3) Zimmis are not allowed to print their religious books or sell them in public places and markets. They are allowed to publish and sell them among their own people, in their churches and temples.

• 4) Zimmis are not allowed to install the cross on their houses or churches since it is a symbol of infidelity.

• 5) Zimmis are not permitted to broadcast or display their ceremonial religious rituals on radio or television or to use the media or to publish any picture of their religious ceremonies in newspaper and magazines.

• 6) Zimmis are not allowed to congregate in the streets during their religious festivals; rather, each must quietly make his way to his church or temple.

• 7) Zimmis are not allowed to join the army unless there is indispensable need for them in which case they are not allowed to assume leadership positions but are considered mercenaries.

• Mawdudi, who is a Hanifite, expresses a more generous opinion toward Christians. He said: "In their own towns and cities they are allowed to do so (practice their religion) with the fullest freedom. In purely Muslim areas, however, an Islamic government has full discretion to put such restrictions on their practices as it deems necessary."

Civic Laws• Zimmis and Muslims are subject to the same civic

laws. They are to be treated alike in matters of honor, theft, adultery, murder, and damaging property. They have to be punished in accordance with the Islamic law regardless of their religious affiliation. Zimmis and Muslims alike are subject to Islamic laws in matters of civic business, financial transactions such as sales, leases, firms, establishment of companies, farms, securities, mortgages, and contracts. For instance, theft is punishable by cutting off the thief's hand whether he is a Muslim or a Christian. But when it comes to privileges, the Zimmis do not enjoy the same treatment. For instance, Zimmis are not issued licenses to carry weapons.

Marriage and Children• A Muslim male can marry a Zimmi girl, but a Zimmi

man is not allowed to marry a Muslim girl. If a woman embraces Islam and wants to get married, her non-Muslim father does not have the authority to give her away to her bridegroom. She must be given away by a Muslim guardian.

• If one parent is a Muslim, children must be raised as Muslims. If the father is a Zimmi and his wife converts to Islam, she must get a divorce; then she will have the right of custody of her child. Some fundamentalist schools indicate that a Muslim husband has the right to confine his Zimmi wife to her home and restrain her from going to her own house of worship.

• Capital Punishment• The Hanifites believe that both Zimmis and Muslims

must suffer the same Penalty for similar crimes. If a Muslim kills a Zimmi intentionally, he must be killed in return. The same applies to a Christian who kills a Muslim. But other schools of Law have different interpretations of Islamic law. The Shafi`ites declare that a Muslim who assassinates a Zimmi must not be killed, because it is not reasonable to equate a Muslim with a polytheist (Mushrik). In such a case, blood price must be paid. The penalty depends on the school of law adopted by the particular Islamic country where the crime or offense is committed. This illustrates the implication of different interpretations of the Islamic law based on the Hadith.

• Each school attempts to document its legal opinion by referring to the Hadith or to an incident experienced by the Prophet or the "rightly guided" Caliphs.

The Witness of Zimmis

• Zimmis cannot testify against Muslims. They can only testify against other Zimmis or Musta'min. Their oaths are not considered valid in an Islamic court. According to the Shari`a, a Zimmi is not even qualified to be under oath. Muraghi states bluntly, "The testimony of a Zimmi is not accepted because Allah - may He be exalted - said: `God will not let the infidels (kafir) have an upper hand over the believers'."

Personal Law• On personal matters of marriages, divorces, and

inheritance, Zimmis are allowed to appeal to their own religious courts. Each Christian denomination has the right and authority to determine the outcome of each case. Zimmis are free to practice their own social and religious rites at home and in church without interference from the state, even in such matters as drinking wine, rearing pigs, and eating pork, as long as they do not sell them to Muslims. Zimmis are generally denied the right to appeal to an Islamic court in family matters, marriage, divorce, and inheritance. However, in the event a Muslim judge agrees to take such a case, the court must apply Islamic law.

Muslims and Zimmis

• Relationships between Muslims and Zimmis are classified in two categories: what is forbidden and what is allowable.

I. The Forbidden: A Muslim is not allowed to: • emulate the Zimmis in their dress or behavior. • attend Zimmi festivals or support them in any way

which may give them any power over Muslims. • lease his house or sell his land for the construction of

a church, temple, liquor store, or anything that may benefit the Zimmi's faith.

• work for Zimmis in any job that might promote their faith such as constructing a church.

• make any endowment to churches or temples. • carry any vessel that contains wine, work in wine

production, or transport pigs. • address Zimmis with any title such as: "my master"

or "my lord."

II. The Allowable A Muslim is allowed to: • financially assist the Zimmis, provided the money is not used in

violation of Islamic law like buying wine or pork. • give the right of pre-emption (priority in buying property) to his

Zimmi neighbor. The Hanbilites disapprove of this. • eat food prepared by the People of the Book. • console the Zimmis in an illness or in the loss of a loved one. It

is also permissible for a Muslims to escort a funeral to the cemetery, but he has to walk in front of the coffin, not behind it, and he must depart before the deceased is buried.

• congratulate the Zimmis for a wedding, birth of a child, return from a long trip, or recovery from illness. However, Muslims are warned not to utter any word which may suggest approval of the Zimmis' faith, such as: "May Allah exalt you," "May Allah honor you," or "May Allah give your religion victory."

Being a witness to the World

Preaching the Gospel to the Muslim – Prepare:

• We must know first what the Word of God teaches

• secondly what Islam teaches. • We must pray to the Almighty to give us

Wisdom and the opportunity to reflect Christ in all manner.

• We must offer spiritual sacrifices of fasting and devotion to the will of God.

Ask them what they think of the Bible… And show themthese verses in the Quran so show them howMuhammad and Allah view the bible – • Muhammad referred to these books to settle a dispute

Surah 3:93-94. • Muslims believe in the Books the Jews possessed –

Surah 4:162 – (How can Muhammad be asked to believe in the books if they had already been corrupted?)

• He is directed to bid the Muslims to believe in the Previous Books – Surah 2:136

• Muhammad made no distinctions between the reliability of the Quran and the bible – not only are the Muslims required to believe in the bible, they are forbidden from making distinctions – Surah 2:136

• Surah 5:46 - We sent forth Jesus, the son of Mary, to follow in the footsteps of the prophets, confirming the Torah which was before him, and we gave him the Gospel with its guidance and light, confirmatory of the preceding Torah; a guidance and warning to those who fear God. Therefore let the people of the Gospel judge according to what God has sent down therein. Evildoers are those that do not judge according to God's revelations

• SURAH 5:68 – People of the Book! (Christians)… Stand fast by the Law, the Gospel, and all the revelation that hath come to you from your Lord. It is the revelation that has come to thee from you Lord

• Surah 2:136 – “Say ye: ‘We believe in Allah, and the revelation given to us, and to Abraham, Ismail, Jacob, and the Tribes, and that given to Moses, and Jesus, and that given to all prophets from their Lord: We make no difference between them

• Surah 4:163 – We have revealed to you as we have revealed to Noah and the Prophets after him, to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and the tribes, to Jesus, Job, Jonah, Aaron, Solomon, and David, to whom we gave the Psalms.

• Surah 10:94 – if you are in doubt concerning what we have revealed To you then question those that have read the scriptures before you.

• Surah 5:44 – We sent down the Torah in which there is guidance and light

• Surah 40:71 - Those who treat the Book, and the message we have sent through our apostles, as a lie, will know the truth hereafter: when, with chains and collars around their necks, they shall be dragged through scalding water and burned in the fire of hell."

We must Fulfill 1 Peter 3:15 - But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear

We must be ready to give answers to there Questions about the Bible – We must answer these so called contradictions within the word of God -

Prayer –

Philippians 1:9 - And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment;
