A DOG’S PURPOSE? (from a 6-year-old)

Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish Wolfhound named Belker. The dog’s owners, Ron, his wife Lisa, and their little boy Shane, were all very attached to Belker,

and they were hoping for a miracle.

I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family we couldn’t do anything for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home.

As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for six-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience.

The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker’s family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away.

The little boy seemed to accept Belker’s transition without any difficulty or confusion. We sat together for a while after Belker’s death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives. Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, “I know why.”

Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I’d never heard a more comforting explanation. It has changed the way I try to live.

The six-year-old continued, “Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don’t have to stay as long.”

Live simply. Love generously.

Care deeply. Speak kindly.

When loved ones come home, always run to greet them. Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.

Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure Ecstasy.

Take naps. Stretch before rising.

Run, romp and play daily. Thrive on attention and let people touch you.

Avoid biting when a simple growl will do. On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.

On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree. When you’re happy, dance around and wag your entire body.

Delight in the simple joy of a long walk. Be loyal.

Never pretend to be something you’re not. If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.

When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by, and nuzzle them gently.

ENJOY EVERY MOMENT OF EVERY DAY!

WEEKLY GIVING Fr. Ed has spoken at all the Masses about the need to increase weekly giving. This is so that we can improve our financial condition and have the funds available for maintaining the buildings and grounds of our parish. Father is asking every family to consider an increase in their weekly offering. Please consider using weekly envelopes on a regular basis or having your contributions made through electronic funds transfer directly to the parish. Pray that our parish may continue to be financially stable and to continue the assistance offered to those less fortunate.

RECYCLE SNEAKERS & RAISE MONEY Have you ever wondered if there is a way to recycle old

sneakers instead of just throwing them away? At GotSneakers, we’re making it fun and rewarding to recycle with an innovative sneaker drive fundraiser. By participating, you’ll help keep sneakers

out of landfills while also putting shoes on the feet of less fortunate people across the world in places such as the Caribbean, Central America, South America, West Africa, and Europe. Your old sneakers will make a huge difference. Beginning July 28 through August 5, there will be a box at each doorway as you enter the vestibules and narthex. Proceeds will go to H.O.M.E., the maternity home in Belleview. Please, tie the laces of a pair of sneakers together. This will

enable us to keep each pair intact.

BISHOP GRADY VILLAS Bishop Grady Villas is a place where adults with disabilities are able to thrive and achieve their dreams.

Dear Parishioners and friends of St. Timo-thy Parish,

Each year we have the opportunity to as-sist the residents of Bishop Grady Villas as they celebrate their annual Harvest Ball.

The ball this year will be held on October 13th.

We have always supported the silent auction at the Harvest Ball. A few years ago, I requested that each family, each ministry and each organization associated with St. Timothy Parish please do-nate a basket.

The baskets should be non-perishable items that usually have a theme (sports, wine with glasses, university based items, etc.). Be creative. Once you have purchased your items and if you need help packaging them in a basket, just bring everything to our office and volunteers can create the baskets.

Get the baskets to my office as soon as you can.

As usual, I will rent a bus and we will take those who wish to at-tend the auction. There will be a notice in the bulletin when we are ready to accept reservations for the bus.

Thank you for your continued support of Bishop Grady Villas.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR LITURGICAL MINISTRIES

Minister of Holy Communion and Altar Servers Please pray over this request and when you are ready to volunteer, call Pat Schaefer in the Office (753-0989)

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL St. Timothy’s 5th Annual Vacation Bible School was held on July 9-13. It was a great success, with nearly 50 children from ages 4-12 attending. Each day consisted of a Bible lesson followed by music, arts and crafts, games, and snacks all based on the day’s bible lesson. St. Timothy’s Vacation Bible School could not happen without the tireless efforts of our

youth and adult volunteers! Many thanks to each of them!
