Looking Forward to this Year’s Conference
As spring finally arrives here at Boston College, I cannot help but look forward to the exciting year
the RAA has ahead of us. This year’s conference promises to be yet another great success; our
dynamic theme: “Globalization: Moving Forward Together” is bringing together a number of exciting
scholars. Additionally, I am eagerly looking forward to the workshops on “Vulnerable Populations”
by Dr. Yolanda Gonzalez and Dr. Ana Mola, as well as “Inclusion of Diversity” by Dr. Keville Fred-
erickson and Dr. Kathy Lauchner.
There are a couple new procedures the RAA is implementing this year. The first is a new sub-
mission process for abstract applications. This new process should be significantly more stream-
lined thanks to input from Dr. Ellen Buckner. To access, either click the hyperlink on pg. 3 of this
newsletter, or go to our website: www.bc/edu/raa. As always, please feel free to reach out if you
have any questions or concerns: [email protected].
One final note, due to policy changes at Boston College, the RAA will not be able to provide
on campus housing for this year’s conference. Instead we are providing a list of nearby accommo-
dations on our website. Additionally, we will be providing an ongoing list with all members looking
for roommates. Please click here to access the form. Please note that it is highly recommended that
you book in advance, as prices can increase dramatically as we draw closer.

Greetings from the campus of Mount St. Mary’s University
(MSMU), Los Angeles, CA. It is a lovely spring day--from my office, I
can see an expansive Pacific Ocean, the skyline of the city and the near-
by snow-capped mountains. It will be great to greet you in person at
Boston College on June 16 and 17 at the annual international confer-
ence. The Executive Board has planned an excellent program and Alys-
sa Hopper, our Executive Director has brought her creative talents to
the planning and featuring of the Workshop and Conference as you
note in this RAA Review edition. Please see the page on Abstract Sub-
missions. We look forward to honoring the Award Winning submis-
sions and hearing about your work at the Conference.
The conference theme of Globalization: Moving Forward Together
brings us to another level as an international organization. Having cele-
brated our 25th anniversary we are ready to take a new look at globali-
zation and to relate this to our current 5-year strategic plan...
(continued on pg. 4).

Globalization: Moving Forward Together
Thoughts from the Theorist… (continued)
The 2014-2019 plan includes structural changes, but keeps at its heart the advancement of knowledge
based on and implementation of the Roy Adaptation Model. At the business meeting, we will present the
RAA-I Organizational Guidelines (later to be the RAA-I Bylaws) approved by the Executive Board. We
will also share with you progress on the transition of the RAA-I as an independent organization, operat-
ing under the aegis of Mount St. Mary’s University.
My opening lines were more than a greeting; you can picture RAA-I’s new home. Some will remember
the 2006 RAA Conference held on 2 campuses of MSMU the Doheny campus in the center of the city
and the campus in the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains. Some also attended the 2012 RAA Con-
ference held at MSMC when we had a public lecture, awards ceremony, poster session and reception in
the extraordinary ballroom of the Doheny mansion. At that conference we were greeted by the new
MSMU president, Dr. Ann McElany-Johnson. The Mount provides us not only beautiful settings, but the
president and the Dean of Nursing, Dr. Leah Fitzgerald have given us a warm and welcoming beginning
to negotiating the transition. We look forward to the future.
