Chairman’s ChatBy Jon Garnett-SmithWelcome back to our second Kolts Magazine. The first was a huge success, but we need more of you to share it with your friends and family on your Facebook or Twitter pages. Simply click share, and use one of the many ways on offer.

This month has been a busy one for the Green and White army of Plymouth Kolts JFC. We have started and submitted an FA Charter Standard Youth Award, and hope to hear back within 6 weeks or so. A lot of work has gone into it, and I'll be delighted when we finally get the recognition we deserve for being a club that

values the development of our players, is building a strong future for our members, and enjoys the loyalty of some of the most talented footballers the DJM has to offer. This loyalty is not by accident, it is as a direct result of our legacy as a club going back many years, and because of the commitment, dedication and hard work of our volunteers to make it that way. The players

never cease to amaze me with their 'green blood' and for that we thank them immensely, after all, it is them who we are here for. The FA Charter Standard Youth Award has been a long time coming, and we look forward to the day we

finally earn that banner.

Ken and I have worked hard to instil a sense of all teams being part of a bigger, important club this year, and this will be no more evident that when your winter

training starts. For the first time ever, we will have 5 teams training over two nights at the same venue, Bull Point astroturf, enabling all the parents and players to mix and realise the true size and nature of our club as a whole.

Parents will have the opportunity to share a drink in the warmth of the upstairs pavilion, with refreshments on sale provided by the team's volunteers. This is a

truly exciting season for us, and one which I believe will shape the future for years to come.

No doubt by the time you read this, all of our teams will have had their first games of the season. I have managed to watch a few games and have already

been impressed by the flying start we have made. Well done to Paul Purse's Under 11's team, who made history on Saturday 7th September by becoming the first ever Plymouth Kolts team to play 9v9 in an organised game. Good luck to all

the teams over the coming weeks, I look forward to hearing about all your last ditch tackles, 30 yard screamers and defence splitting passes.

Yours in Sport,

Jonathan Garnett-SmithChairman

Kolts U11 v MayflowerBy Paul PursePlymouth Kolts : 9 vs 0 : Tavistock

This was only our 3rd match together as a team and we had a bright start with 2 early goals from Luke Hardman up front. Once we were two up the confidence spread quickly through the team and we started playing some good football with George Yeadon, Robbie Brammer and Luke (2) adding to the total before half-time. The second half we changed a few things but we still played some good stuff. Luke added another to make it 5 for him, and George and Hamish finished off the scoring. A great team performance with Hamish a great midfielder, player of the match performance. Well done Lads and Lady

U12s win against Southgate KoltsBy Lewis KnightU12s. Won 4-2 today in the Cup against Southgate Colts. We took the lead through Max Finn scoring 2 excellent finishes before the break, game was

levelled with 5 minutes left. Then a battling bare 11, scored 2 goals in the last 3 minutes, from striker Morgan Haines. Some outstanding performances,

Kolts U9s V Marjon SMBy Mike PaskinsPLYMOUTH KOLTS 15 – 1 PLYMOUTH MARJONS SM

Plymouth Kolts secured their second victory of the season with a fantastic performance against Marjons SM. We thought this was going to be a tough game as the last time we played them we drew 1 each.

However Kolts quickly went 2 nill up thanks to 2 great goals by Alfie Crockford. With some great defence from Declan Gower and Curtis Young and fantastic mid-fielding from George Hawkins, Owen Barton and Thomas Kiers the goals kept flying in, with Owen Thomas hitting a hat trick, George Hawkins scoring 2 cracking Goals and Jack Pearse scoring 1 we finished the first half 8 – nil up.

Within 10 mins of the second half Jack Pearse scored his second goal which meant Jack, George, Owen and Alfie were all after their hat tricks.

Marjons broke through our defence to score their one and only goal of the match the boys got right back on it though with Alfie and George getting their 3rd goals and Owen Thomas hitting another 1.

The last five minutes of the match the defenders were put up front to mix it up a bit. Thomas Kiers scored 2 and Declan Gower scored his first goal for Kolts bringing the final score to 15-1.

A mention must go to Billy Smith in Goal who pulled off some great saves and whose great goal kicks certainly helped our forwards.

Marjons named George Hawkins as MOTM – Well done George.

A great performance by all the boys brings are total goals up to 24 goals in just 2 matches. Keep up the good work boys.

George Hawkins 3, Alfie Crockford 3, Owen Thomas 4, Jack Pearse 2, Thomas Kiers 2, Declan Gower 1

Kolts U10s - So Many PositivesBy Jason Carlisle

Kolts U10’s – So Many Positives! The U10’s season started away to Marjon SJ; a tough opening game for Kolts, against a team who recently won the Bristol Academy tournament. Any nerves from the side line were quickly dispelled as the Kolts settled with early shots on target from new striker Marshall Nicklen and front man Elliot Loveless. Midfielder Ben Nash used the ball well to turn defence into attack with his box to box running a real asset through out the match. Marjon SJ used the wings well and some intense pressure tested the defence with Luke O’Karr and Daniel Haddy performing well to keep Marjon SJ at bay. The longer half was tougher on Kolts and only two incredible saves from ‘keeper Sam Beaton prevented the team going behind. On the stroke of half-time, following a goalmouth scramble, Marjon SJ took the lead. Into the second half and Captain, Ethan Carlisle sent a lovely through ball to Marshall Nicklen who held off two defenders to calmly slot the past the Marjon SJ goalkeeper to make the scores level. Then followed a sustained period of attack from Marjon SJ with Sam Beaton, Noah Carlisle and Ethan Carlisle showing some brave goalkeeping and defending to keep the scores level. Tired legs finally allowed Marjon SJ to create space from which they took a deserved lead with five minutes remaining, although a Ben Nash header that was saved by the keeper and first time volley from Ethan Carlisle that missed the post by inches showed fighting spirit from Kolts. A last minute long range shot from Marjon SJ found the top corner to end the game MARJON SJ. 3 – 1 KOLTS. Man of the Match Goalkeeper Sam Beaton.

New Coach - Steve MartynBy Steve Martyn

I'd like to introduce myself as the new coach of the clubs junior coaching scheme. I've recently replaced Steve Wardle who, after many years service to Plymouth Kolts, decided to retire during the

summer. I have many years experience of playing in the local leagues, from Devon Junior & Minor to South West Peninsula. I've

decided to retire in order to pursue an experience in coaching (at 34 my legs are gone). My achievements in the local football circuit range

from being a multiple league winner at P&D Premier level to a 4th Place finish with Elburton Villa in what was known as the Devon

League. I also made an appearance in the Devon Premier Cup final but the less said about that the better, we lost 4-0!

I'm a lifelong Liverpool fan and try to make 3 or 4 appearances at Anfield every season to watch the (once) mighty reds.

During the week I work as an IT Service Manager and am married with 2 children, Bella aged 5 and Charlie aged 3. Charlie is already

showing some encouraging touches with a ball at his feet and I hope to see him in a Kolts shirt soon.

Finally I like to encourage as many mini kickers to training as possible, as both my assistant Simon Warren and I, look to give the

kids a start to their football careers.

Best Wishes to all Kolts teams this season
