Principal’s Words

I would like to extend a warm welcome back to all of

our students, families and staff for the beginning of

term 3. I trust that everyone had a relaxing and

enjoyable, family orientated break. It is wonderful to

see our students (and parents) returning with broad

smiles and eager to pick up where they left off in the

classroom and playground.

During the break our adjoining community open

space, sports oval and facilities were formally

opened by the mayor of the City of Armadale, ably

assisted by one of our students, James Hagdorn.

James did a wonderful job representing our school

and we are very proud of him. These will be known

as the ”Rossiter Pavilion and Playing Fields” we all

look forward to enjoying the benefits of this

wonderful community facility adjoining our school ,

particularly once our Health and Physical Education

programs ramp up in 2019.

Our current student numbers have stabilised at

around 150 and this continues to lend itself to

smaller class sizes and outstanding teacher - student

engagement. In addition - to support and enhance

the wonderful work already undertaken in our

classrooms - we welcome some new staff:

In Kindy 1, Ms Emma Ford – Special needs

Education Assistant working with our new student

Tamara.

In Kindy 2 (Wed to Friday) we welcome a new

teacher, Miss Claire Nabben working alongside Mrs

Snowden.

In Kindy 3 we welcome Ms Kristy Murrie replacing

Mrs Letton as classroom teacher.

In PP3 we welcome Miss Shantelle Stevenson, an

Edith Cowan University student who is completing

her fourth year Final Practicum with Miss Graham’s

support. Miss Stevenson will be here for the entire

term.

We also welcome Ms Danielle Mathews, one of our

fantastic Front Office team members who now joins

us for an additional day each week. You will meet

Danielle on Mondays and Tuesdays for the

remainder of this year.

One for the diary: Parents please note that Monday

13 August will be a pupil free day at Aspiri Primary

School as our staff participates in a Network Schools

Professional Development Day (All schools in our

local Nicholson Network will be participating)

I trust everyone enjoys all of the opportunities term

three will bring at our fantastic school and join me in

watching our fabulous new school

being built as we race on into 2019.

See you at the gate.

Associate Principal’s Words

Congratulations Mrs Douglas!

We are very excited to share with you that one of our Education Assistants – Mrs Douglas has been acknowledged by the Department of Education for her outstanding contribution to the education of students and her commitment to developing her skills and knowledge.

Mrs Douglas has many talents and spends lots of hours in and out of school hours developing resources and learning programs to support other teachers and our students. She is also is currently studying to obtain her Bachelor of Education. As a result, the Department of Education has given Mrs Douglas approval to take on more teaching responsibilities.

As a result of this approval, we are able to implement a targeted oral language and vocabulary program in both Kindergarten and Pre Primary. Strong oral language and vocabulary skills lay the foundation for reading and writing. This program will offer extra support to students identified by classroom teachers and increase the skills and knowledge of other Education Assistants and teachers. In addition to working with small groups, you may also see Mrs Douglas teaching classes for short periods of time throughout the day.

Term Planner

Attached to this newsletter is our Term 3 planner. Our teachers have planned a number of special events for the students this term. These include;

100 days at school and 50 days at school celebrations - The first event will be a celebration of 100 days at school for our Pre Primary students and 50 days at school for our Kindergarten students. Each class will be celebrating this event with a range of counting activities and lessons. Classroom teachers will let you know if your child is required to bring or prepare anything for these days

Wildlife Incursion – Kindergarten Green, Orange and Yellow, and Pre Primary students will have the opportunity to meet and learn about a number of Australian animals in our ‘Wildlife Incursion’. Please remember to return your permission notes and incursion fee as soon as possible.

Book Week Celebrations – As part of our book week celebrations, we will be holding a special dress-up day for all Kindergarten and Pre Primary students. On this day we encourage students to dress up as their favourite character from their favourite book. Teachers will also plan a number of classroom activities during this week to celebrate the 2018 Book Week theme ‘Find your Treasure’

We also are excited this term to be hosting a number of opportunities for parents and community to engage with the school. This will include;

Parents and Community (P&C) and

Community Consultation Group Meetings

Parent Information Workshops – We have planned three parent workshops this term to help you with understanding how you can work together with the school to give your child the best possible start to their education. Our first workshop will have a guest speaker from State Library of Western Australia. They will be talking about the important experience of sharing books and stories with your children.

Father’s Day Breakfast – We will be inviting our Dads and caregivers to school to celebrate Father’s Day.

Multicultural Day – We are very proud of the many different cultures and language groups at Aspiri Primary School. To share our pride, we are planning to celebrate with a Multicultural Day. Further details about this event will be distributed closer to the day.

DOTT Timetable Changes

DOTT is an acronym used by the Department of Education to describe the time teachers are given to prepare and plan for your child’s teaching and learning. They use this time to prepare resources, conduct assessments, participate in training and development, and collaborate with other teachers. Whilst the classroom teacher is on DOTT, another teacher takes the class to continue the classroom program for your child.

Ms Kellie Gee will be the new DOTT teacher for most Kindergarten and Pre Primary. Please contact the classroom teacher if you have any questions.

Emma Ford – Special Needs Education Assistant

Ms Ford was the successful applicant when we advertised for a Special Needs Education Assistant at the end of Semester 1. We consider ourselves incredibly lucky to have Ms Ford join our team as she has a wealth of skills and expertise in supporting students with special needs in mainstream classrooms. She has come to us from Challis Primary School where she was a leader responsible for developing the skills of other Education Assistants and coordinating an intervention program for children with Autism.

Kristy Murrie – Classroom Teacher

Ms Murrie was with us in Term 2 and taught Kindergarten Red on Friday. She has now joined us 5 days a week and has taken over the teaching duties of both Kindergarten Yellow and Red. Ms Murrie has a Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Studies) with a specialisation in special needs education, and a Certificate III in Auslan (sign language). She aims to provide a warm, caring and nurturing environment that welcomes all cultures, families, and personalities and has already worked her magic in the classroom by creating some amazing learning centres.

Danielle Mathews – School Officer

Ms Mathews has been working with us in Term 2 this year and will now be joining us on both Mondays and Tuesdays. She will be assisting with the large number of enrolments that we are now receiving for 2019. Ms Mathews also works at Yule Brook College.

Disabled Parking Space

We would like to remind our parents and caregivers that ACROD parking bays are reserved for people with disabilities that have a valid ACROD permit. These parking bays are placed in the most convenient locations and as such are preferred parking spots. Regardless of how long you intend to park, if you are running late, or if it is raining, Non-ACROD permit holders are prohibited unconditionally from parking in these

bays.

Claire Nabben – Classroom Teacher

Miss Nabben is one of our new Kindergarten teachers. Miss Nabben has a wonderful amount of positive energy and enthusiasm which will complement our teaching team. She has experience working in a range of different schools including Carmel and Challis Primary Schools and will be working at Aspiri Primary School on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday with the Purple group. She also teaches at Majella Catholic School on Monday and Tuesday. She is passionate about physical education and fitness.

A reminder to parents

We are now taking enrolments for 2019 across all

years – Kindergarten to year six. Parents with

older siblings at other neighbouring schools are

welcome to bring these students across to Aspiri

Primary School with our guarantee that their

education will be equally as good, if not better at

our wonderful new school. Also don’t forget

parents, if your child is in Kindergarten this year

and you are in our Local Intake Area you must re-

enrol them with us for Pre Primary classes in

2019 as Pre Primary is their first year of

“compulsory” education.

Official opening of the Rossiter Pavilion

On Thursday, 5 July during the school holidays the wonderful new community open space and facilities adjacent to our school were opened by the Mayor of Armadale. The new complex, known as the Rossiter Pavilion and Playing Fields will support our sporting and health programs both for our school and during visits from other schools.

We were very fortunate to have one of our students, James Hagdorn assist Mayor Henry Zelonesin opening the complex by cutting the official ribbon.

Wonderful work James you have made us all at Aspiri Primary School very proud.
