Happy Birthday!
Important Dates I went to this year’s Bite of Seattle with my classmates on July 19th. I have been to many different events in different states during the last two years, so I tried to explain to my friends who have not experienced this kind of event before what a food event is like in America . “An event where you eat junk food,” I said. But it was quite different than I expected. Food options were not just burgers, fries, pizza or corn dogs but also Chinese dim sum, Vietnam-ese spring roll, Mexican quesadilla, etc. It really amazed me when I found Chinese crepes, and they tasted exactly like what I used to have back in China. Anyway, that was a great place where you could eat many countries’ traditional food without traveling. Perhaps it is because Seattle is a multicultural city. My classmates had their first taco and bubble tea there. I had my favorite spring roll. We found a spot in front of a live music stage to eat and enjoy music with my friends. That day was really enjoyable! I suggest you should keep your stomach empty before you go. Also, the event was not just about food diversity. There were also live bands, outdoor games and the like. You don’t want to miss any of that. Bite of Seattle was near the Space Needle and the Chihuly Glass Garden. If you get time, you can also go explore as more as you want. I am looking forward to next year’s Bite of Seattle! -Wenli from China-

F i e s t a s i n t h e Philippines are held to celebrate a patron saint or to mark the passage of seasons. It is a time of joyful celebration for Filipinos, who cook heaps of hearty food, throw open their doors
to visitors, and parade in the streets. Although many of the biggest parades are tied to religious festivals, that doesn’t mean they aren’t a great excuse for a party. One of the biggest street festivals in the country, Cebu’s Sinulog, runs for several days, with raves, beauty pageants, and dance competitions all thrown into the mix. -Raphael from the Philippines-
