Health Breakfast & Walk Safely to School Day Another great school community event was held last Friday, which started off with all students enjoying a healthy breakfast of cereal, fresh fruit, pancakes and juice. All students then headed off around the streets of Macarthur as a part of the Walk Safely to School Day. A big thank you to the parents who came in to assist with the preparation of breakfast and clean-up, and also to those who came along on the walk. Thanks also to the Moyne Shire for their support in providing funding for our breakfast. SGSSA Cross Country Last Friday we took a team of 20 enthusiastic students across to Tarrington Lutheran School for the annual SGSSA Cross Country events. Our students all did extremely well over what can only be described as a rather gruelling course. Results on the day were: Johanna (12/13 years – 1 st ), Jack J (11 years – 3 rd ), Mikaylah (11 years – 3 rd ), Alexis (10 years – 2 nd ), Reigan (10 years – 6 th ), Lucy (10 years – 7 th ), Courtney (10 years – 10 th ), Mae (10 years – DNF), Lachie (10 years – 2 nd ), Archie (10 years – 11 th ), Jack W (10 years – 13 th ), Dale (10 years – 17 th ), Zoe (9 years – 1 st ), Lauren (9 years – 9 th ), Maddison R (9 years – 11 th ), Indra (9 years – 12 th ), Bodie (9 years – 8 th ), Josh (9 years – 12 th ), Harry (10 years – 16 th ), Craig (9 years – 17 th ). A great effort by all of our students who through their great efforts helped our school achieve 4 th place in the overall aggregate event – well done to each of our athletes! Division Cross Country We will now have 5 students who have chosen to compete in the Division Cross Country running championships in Warrnambool this Friday, having qualified through their strong performances at Tarrington last Friday. We would like to wish Jack J, Mikaylah, Alexis, Lachie and Zoe all the best – we look forward to hearing how you perform. Good luck! School Council Our School Council met last night with the main focus of discussion for the night being around how we will use the $299,000 we have been allocated through the recent State Budget to further develop our school facilities to meet the modern needs of teaching and learning. A large portion of this money will be used to fix, repair or improve items designated as a priority through the Condition Assessment Report which was conducted on all schools in 2012. The remaining funds will be used to modernise our classrooms and repair areas of infrastructure, including outdoor areas such as asphalt surfaces and pathways. School Council, with the support of staff, will be developing a plan over the coming weeks and months to be submitted to the Department for approval. Works will hopefully commence in terms 3 and 4 of this year. Grade 6 Leaders Program As previously stated, this year our Grade 6 Leaders are working on a project involving them coordinating our school vegetable garden and looking at ways they can use the excess produce to help others in our community. Students from Panmure Primary School near Warrnambool are working on a similar project and we recently held a video conference with them to share our project ideas. Next Wednesday these students from Panmure will be travelling to our school and will spend a part of the day working with our students in both the kitchen and garden. We are looking forward to welcoming

these students and sharing more ideas on what we both hope to achieve with our garden projects. Baked Potato Lunch Order forms were sent home on Monday with all students regarding a baked potato lunch, which will take place next Wednesday. The proceeds from these sales will go towards helping pay for the grade 6 student shirts. Please make sure all orders, along with the money, are returned no later than this

Friday. MPA Newsletter The first issue of the MPA News was sent home yesterday. Thank you to those involved in the production of this first instalment which is a great new idea to help keep everyone informed of coming events and ideas. If you have any suggestions for a school event, please let the MPA know – feel free to place any suggestion in the box outside the office or alternatively get in touch with one of the MPA

Executives. Farewell This Friday we unfortunately say farewell to Cody in grade 5 who, along with his parents Mick and Kerrie, will be moving into Hamilton to start another chapter in their lives. We wish you all the best and thank the Penfold family for their various contributions throughout their involvement with our

school. Have a great week! Ben Kelson Principal

ARTISTS OF THE WEEK This week, our first award went to Grade Prep student Cooper for his wonderful painting entitled “Caterpillar in the Garden”. He listened carefully and then put a lot of thought and care into his art work. The next two awards went to Grade 1 students Angus and Georgie for their imaginative ‘One-eyed Monsters’. Their class first learnt how to use complementary colours to make an effective art work. Both students combined pattern, colour and creative ideas for their art pieces. The final award went to Kaitlin in Gr.5 for her “Rainbow Silhouette”. Kaitlin

took considerable care with her painting displaying great fine-motor skills and then made a terrific silhouette figure. Congratulations to all the students who received awards.
