CapitaLand constantly str ives to innovate to enhance value

and experiences for their customers - some of these initiatives

are in their respective exciting pilot phases, which have been

selectively implemented within CapitaLand Commercial Trust

(CCT)’s office portfolio.

One such pilot project will start in Twenty Anson, a prime office

property strategically located in the Central Business District with

convenient access to public transport. Expected to be launched in 4Q

2017, the newly fitted space at Twenty Anson caters to increasing

corporate demands for workspaces offering flexibility, choice and

better value. These customisable and flexible workspaces offer private,

fitted-out suites for up to 30 occupants and are available for shorter

tenures from minimum of three months compared to a typical lease of

36 months. It can serve either as a working space for smaller

teams or an extension of a tenant’s workspace without long term

commitment. In other words, whether to accommodate project

teams, overseas colleagues or guests, staff of tenants will be able

to plug in and work immediately with common facilities provided

to ensure productivity and convenience.

CapitaLand is also testing sophisticated technology to allow

occupants to customise their workspace environment through

personalised lighting and adjustments for thermal comfort.

With technology l ike Power-over-Ethernet and on-demand

temperature setting via mobile applications, occupants would be

able to adjust and personalise their individual workplace settings

through their mobile devices or desktops.

To testbed new future-of-work concepts, CapitaLand is embarking on a few initiatives harnessing technology, creating connected and thriving environments.

For example, smart off ice l ight ing a l lows occupants

to achieve their preferred lighting levels. It also allows lighting

to be intelligently-controlled based on natural light along a

building’s perimeter (for example, whether or not the workspace

is located next to a window).

For on-demand thermal comfort, instead of the usual manual

feedback channel (via contacting the building management team)

to adjust office temperature settings, occupants can simply input

a “too hot” or “too cold” request through their mobile devices

or desktops. The application also utilises back-end data analytics

to learn about the different user preferences to optimise workplace

thermal comfort. Technology like this not only translates into energy

savings for buildings, but also creates a comfortable working

environment for occupants.

Another initiative to explore improving workplace productivity is the

use of an autonomous delivery robot, capable of performing simple

tasks like delivering items within the office. Currently, GIC is using it

for visitor hospitality management at their office in Capital Tower.

Harnessing technology and innovation, CapitaLand paves the way

towards creating future of work and delightful work experiences

with greater flexibility, efficiency and workspace personalisation for

the benefit of its customers.

Page 5: ISSUE 18 SEP 2017 your CAPITA LETTER...What AWS could offer was critical - an ability to effect change in a matter of days and to anticipate future needs - allowing Grab to remain

(Article contributed by Nick Walton, Head of ASEAN, Amazon

Web Services)

Digital disruption brings opportunity as well as pressure for

businesses to stay ahead of competition. The question is no longer

when to transform, but instead, how to stay agile.

While employing cloud services has become the standard approach

for many businesses to stay relevant and ahead of competition,

maximising innovation that translates into new business models

and real-world outcomes has become the key objective.

Amazon Web Serv ices (AWS) is a secure c loud serv ices

platform, offering compute power, database storage, content

del ivery and other functional it ies to help businesses scale

and grow. Operating massive scale technology infrastructure

and data centres means AWS has the expertise to serve a

broader mission - one that enables developers and businesses

to innovate and build sophisticated, scalable applications with

reliability at the core.

Scaling Infrastructure while Ensuring Stability

With a mission to enable accessible transportation across multiple Southeast Asian countries, Grab recognises the need to scale

the infrastructure of its growing online transportation network. What AWS could offer was critical - an ability to effect change in

a matter of days and to anticipate future needs - allowing Grab to remain one step ahead in innovating their services.

Within four years, Grab has moved from using only a handful of AWS services to a fully-functional suite - particularly of Amazon

Redshift and Amazon ElastiCache, which have been key in supporting the 1.5 mill ion bookings that Grab manages daily in

the region. Using real-time data computation and data streams that identify real-time passenger demands and build predictive data

models, Grab consistently improves its efficiency in matching drivers to passengers and fulfils growing market demands.

Data management on AWS Cloud has freed up nearly 40% of Grab’s workforce, thereby reallocating these resources to better

focus on continuous analytical innovation, allowing Grab to accelerate its business at a more rapid pace than its counterparts - a

competitive edge that could make or break in the start-up environment.

Digitally Transforming the Banking Experience

The digital age has also seen competition in the banking industry, not only from its players, but also from conglomerates

and tech counterparts expanding into the banking and payments space. To consistently generate value-added content,

DBS has grown into a leading digital bank in pursuit of scale and technological growth, offering seamless banking experiences.

Central to re-architecting its technological infrastructure was the move to AWS Cloud. By 2018, DBS will be able to streamline

internet banking experiences, with 50% of its workload migrated to cloud. The diversified expertise of AWS also paves the way for

DBS to optimise their technology to better support internet banking transactions, quicken go-to-market speeds, strengthen security

and lower costs.

Successful businesses are discovering that AWS Cloud promotes adaptability in an ever-changing market by leveraging on IT to

promote development. The adoption of AWS Cloud is helping Grab, DBS and many other companies in Singapore and around the

world, creating value for these businesses.

To fulfi l the promise of AI as a new factor of production that

can reignite growth, Accenture encourages firms, consumers

and society to embrace emerging technologies by taking the

following steps to navigate the complexity of issues.

• Prepare the next generation - integrate human intell igence

with machine intel l igence so they can successful ly co-exist

in a two-way learning relationship and re-evaluate the type

of knowledge and skil ls required in the future.

• Encourage AI-powered regulat ion - update and create

adaptive, self-improving laws to close the gap between the pace

of technological change and the pace of regulatory response.

Customer Innovation Journey with AWS Cloud

T E C H N O L O G Y

• Advocate a Code of Ethics for AI - ethical debates should

be supplemented by tangible standards and best practices

in the development and use of intell igent machines.

• Address the redistr ibution effects - policymakers should

highl ight how AI can result in tangible benef its and pre-

emptively address any perceived downsides of AI, helping groups

disproportionately affected by the changes of employment

and incomes.
