As part of the Boys Will be project two of our Teaching Assistants,

Mrs Baker and Mrs Huggins were trained in leading the Massage in

Schools programme which has been implemented by a number of

schools in the project. They have since demonstrated the programme

to staff in a training session. This is an inclusive programme of

positive touch and clothed massage where children give massage to

each other on the back, head and arms. At school we encourage

children to use touch all the time when we discuss shapes, textures,

forms and softness in relation to the world around us. Touch is used

to enhance understanding and other schools who have used this

programme have found it helpful in creating a calmer, more

harmonious environment where children are more sociable and aware

of the feelings and needs of others. A crucial aspect of the programme

is respect. It is an activity for children of all ages, they have to ask

permission to touch their partner and they have the right to say no.The effects benefit not only those who receive massage but also to

those who give massage as they are taught to develop a sense of

responsibility for their partners well being.

Mrs Baker and Mrs Huggins will soon be demonstrating the

programme to classes throughout the school. The different routines

take no more than 10-15 minutes and will form part of our whole

school approach to Assertive Discipline and Circle Time in class. We

are all very excited about this new

    development and further details of

a parent workshop for you to seehow the programme works will be

    coming out soon. In the

    meantime further information can

    My life journey

In school, your child has been thinking about some of

the changes in their life. Why dont you share some of

the things in your life with your child in the same wayas they did in class? The children used this picture to

help them talk. You might like to put on some of the

things that happened to you on the road.

You might like to start at the top of the road with the

date you were born. Write any important things in your

life onto the road. These might include starting at

school, changing school, brother or sister being born,

meeting someone special, moving house or country,

    having your child.

    I was born on

It changed my life an interview

    Child

Ask the people in your family about some of the

changes that have happened to them. Use the questions below or think of some of your own.

What was the biggest change in your life?

    Are you glad it happened?

How did you feel before this happened?

How long did it take you to get used to the change?

How did you cope with the change?

    Did anything unexpected happen?

If you could have your life again, would you keep the change?

Why dont your draw some of the changes?

Or you might like to write down some of the things they did to help them cope.

Governor NewsOur Governors have decided that they wish to work towards

achieving a Quality Mark for School Governance. This is a

process similar to the Leading Parent Partnership Award we

have. This is a framework that recognises high quality school

governance. It is intended to support schools through a moderated self-review of thegoverning bodys contribution achieving sustainable excellence in school governance within

the leadership and management structure of the school. They have already held several

meetings in order to begin collecting evidence for their submission. Further information on

this work will follow soon. In the meantime we wish them every success in this ambition.

    Building News

Last Wednesday Miss Fisher, Miss Lambert and Mr Kempster

held their monthly meeting with the building contractors. The

external roof finishes, drainage works and rain water goods

completed. The external works are progressing well with the

preparation for the tarmac play areas under way. The internal

partitions are complete and plaster work is going according to

plan. The first fix works are completed ie mechanical, electrical

and carpentry work and second fix work has started. Painting is

currently going on in the re-furbished classroom (the second

Year 1 room). The work on the canopies surrounding the building

will begin on June 27th. Discussions and planning is now under way

on how to best manage the moves into the new classrooms.
