FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK
Hello Everyone,
I would like to acknowledge and celebrate the team who
participated in the Northern Midlands Athletics Carnival
last week. Participation was outstanding, with strong
individual and team results. Details of the results will be
published next week. I received very positive feedback
about the team’s behaviour and support of each other.
Well done Hagley athletes – your team behaviour was
outstanding. Thank you also to Mrs Harris for her role in
coordinating the event, Mr Preece for his management of
the team and Mrs Garwood for supporting them on the
day.
Last week our School Association Committee met for the
first time this year. It was a significant evening, with the
Parents and Friends being closed and merged into the
School Association. I would like to acknowledge the
significant impact that the Parents and Friends has made
to our school over many decades. The P&F has been a
major part of the parent community commitment and
contribution to our school, and is highly valued.
Next Wednesday evening we will be holding the Annual
General Meeting of the School Association. At this time
we have several members completing their term on the
committee. We are seeking new members, but
unfortunately we have received only one parent
nomination. Please consider being a part of this parent

NAPLAN ONLINE 2019
Tasmanian schools will participate in NAPLAN Online
from 2019. NAPLAN Online will provide better
assessment and more precise results. The assessments
feature a tailored test design where the questions a
student receive will depend on their answers to
previous questions.
NAPLAN Online testing will be held from the 14th to
the 24th of May 2019 and is for all year 3 and 5
students.
NAPLAN Online 2019 will include four components,
Writing, Numeracy, Conventions of Language and
Reading. For 2019, Year Three students will be
completing a paper based Writing Test.
Schools will receive reports and results for participants
following the completion of NAPLAN Online 2019.
These Individual Student Reports will have the same
format as the results from the paper based testing. The
same report format is used for every student in
Australia.
Every child in years 3 and 5 will bring home a flyer
today about NAPLAN Online that contains further
information.
If you have any questions, please contact Mrs Lauren
Beams.

DAY OF PLAY
On Friday the 5th of April, our Prep to Grade 2 classes will
be involved in a Day of Play Day. This will be an oppor-
tunity for our classes to use facilities around the school to
engage in play based learning. Our Play Day also supports
our involvement in The Refocus Teaching and Learning in
the Early Years Project. We look forward to sharing
some of our experiences in our school newsletter in the
coming weeks.
IMPETIGO—SCHOOL SORES We have had several cases of school sores at school in the
last week. Although impetigo is not usually a serious
condition, it is very infectious, and if not treated promptly
complications may occasionally occur. Children diagnosed
with impetigo should remain out of school until the sores
have stopped blistering or crusting, or until 24 hours after
starting appropriate antibiotic treatment.

SCHOOL ASSOCIATION COMMITTEE
Committee Meeting Report
Our meeting last week was full of insightful and interesting
reports and discussions on activity within the school this
term. We discussed and approved the School Reporting
Schedule and approved the 2019 School Budget. We had
updates on the Revitalising School Farms funding and what
projects this has enabled to be progressed, and also the
School Improvement Plan and the resetting of the
school values.
We also discussed 2019 fundraising goals and in
addition to our regular annual contributions and
commitments we agreed to focus on raising funds for
playground upgrades with the Kinder Playground being
the first area of focus as planning for this project is
already underway. The Committee also agreed to
support the School Garden Project in 2019 (a summary
of 2018/19 funding allocations will be included in the
newsletter next week).
Parent Representative - At the closing date for
nominations we only had one nomination received, so if
you were considering being a part of the committee in
2019 you still have the opportunity. I have had a lot of
conversations with people about being involved, all we
ask for from a representative is that you have an
interest in the school and a willingness to commit to
attending some meetings. It really is rewarding and
interesting and is a wonderful opportunity to build
connections within the school community. I can assure
you that you don't need to be super confident, the
meetings are always respectful and members are
encouraging and supportive. So please, I encourage you
to consider nominating and taking the opportunity to
be involved in our school community.
Next Meeting: Annual General Meeting, Wednesday
10 April, at 7.00pm. This meeting will be followed by a
regular School Association Committee Meeting. The
agendas are included in the newsletter today.
Entertainment Book - A promotional flyer is being
sent home today. If you wish to purchase a book, you
can place your order via this website - https://
www.entertainmentbook.com.au/orderbooks/240r570
or complete and return the form. I have copies of the
book now so if you have already placed your order,
these will be sent home later this week. If your aren't
sure what the entertainment book is, a copy of the
book is available online to view. Alternatively in Term
2 we will be sending home a book to each family for
you to look through and decide. There is no obligation
to purchase, if its not for you disregard the flyer (and
return the book when it is sent home next term). The
Entertainment Book has been a consistently good
fundraiser for our school, raising approximately $1500
each year which has most recently been utilised to
upgrade items in the canteen and purchase class atlas
sets for the library.

AGFEST
With a little over 4 weeks to go, preparations for Agfest are well underway.
We have an excellent site this year in 6th Avenue, so hopefully will be run off our feet!
Some of you may wonder where the money raised at various catering events ends up.
At last week’s School Association meeting it was decided that 100% OF FUNDS RAISED AT AGFEST THIS
YEAR WILL GO TOWARDS THE NEW KINDERGARTEN PLAYGROUND, a project that has been
discussed for many years but is now about to happen.
As our major fundraiser for the year we would like to think we can inject $10,000 into the project.
We are still well short of volunteers to help over the 3 day event, so jump on board and give us a hand. There are
jobs for everyone, and we can be flexible with shift times.
You can call/text Chris Cheek on 0409606202, or drop the attached volunteer slip off at the school office.
See you there
