Dear families

I want to say a big ‘Thank You’ and well done to the staff and students who volunteered their time to support the

Garlic Festival last Saturday. The work that has been done by the students and staff to get products ready, organise

activities and be available on the day is a fantastic effort. There were many great comments about the products for

sale and also the animals on display. Thank you for braving the elements and for being available even when injured.

the school with regard to policy, programs, funding and expectations of the school. The School Association since its

revitalisation a few years ago has had a big impact on the support of our students and the future direction of the

school. The School Association have been instrumental in supporting the master planning of the school for

redevelopment, funding requests, policy updates, new logo, new uniform, incorporating the Trade Training Centre

into the school, supporting the extension of Year 11 & 12 and shaping the direction of the school to support all

students from Kinder to year 12. If you would like to be involved in this group please find the nomination form

attached to this newsletter.

STUDENT MEDICATION

The office is currently updating student information regarding medical

details.

It is important to keep the school informed of any changes your child/

rens details.

We have included some Education Department Policy information

below.

Under no circumstance will medication be administered to students unless authority is

received from a student’s medical practitioner, parent or guardian. This includes asthma

medication.

Prescribed long term medication can only be administered to students when the appropriate

form has been completed and signed by the child’s medical practitioner.

Prescribed short term medication i.e. antibiotics can only be administered to students when

the appropriate form has been completed and signed by the child’s parent or guardian.

In all instances, medication must be handed in to the office in the original container, with the

chemist’s instruction label attached.

Non-prescribed oral medication, such as analgesics (pain killers ie Panadol) and over-the-

counter medication cannot be administered by school staff. Fever, headache, earache,

toothache etc are considered symptoms of conditions that require further investigation by an

appropriate health practitioner.

No medication is to be self-administered, including cough mixture, flu tablets and medicated

creams/ointments.

VISITING THE SCHOOL

When visiting the school for whatever reason, please sign in at the front office. It

is important for the school to have an accurate record of all visitors to the school,

and in the event of an emergency it is an Occupational Health & Safety

requirement.

A “Visitor” badge must be worn at all times when on school property.

Last weekend we took our shorthorn cattle to the Bushy Park Show. We set off on Friday afternoon

with Ms Evans, Ms Brown and Bec. We stopped in New Norfolk for food and had a ‘door’ issue with

the bus which delayed us but Bec managed to get us on our way. We arrived at Bushy Park , it was

nearly dark, to find our four heifers, two cows and a calf just arriving in their truck. We unloaded them

and got them fed and settled in the shed in a bed of straw.

We slept in swags in an open shed and woke at 5.00am to feed and wash our cows. It was still dark

when we gave them their breakfast.

The competition started at 9.00am, some of us were nervous as it was our first time parading a Heifer in

public and competing at a show. Ruby led an enormous cow that weighed nearly a tonne! Candina looked

after a naughty bull calf she named ‘Petie’. Jocelyn said she had never been out of bed so early in the

morning. Paige led a huge Charolais Heifer in the novice competition. Ben had his own Santa Gertrudis

cattle at the show.

It was great fun and a great experience.

Thanks to Bec for driving the bus, Ms Evans for looking after us and putting up with our singing, Ms Brown

for organising us, Helen White for letting us use her cattle and Mr

Davidson for transporting the cattle for us.
