Hi!
We're the UWE Bar School society and we'd like to teach you everything there is to know about alcoholic drinks and get you involved in some Bar Flair - the manipulation of ingredients and equipment in the art of making drinks. You'll learn the ins and outs of Wine, Spirits and Beers, tasting hundreds of varieties as well as having the chance to making some creative cocktails! We're not talking Sex on the Beach here (unless that's your thing!). We're talking eggs,

fresh fruits (that you've probably never heard of), spices from around the world and of course, high quality spirits and liqueurs! We'll also be showing you the best places to eat and drink around Bristol! We take you to some of the best bars around Bristol to show you that there's much more to drinking than vodka and energy drink! We also make sure that we head into Europe for our annual trip!

It’s been a big year for Bar School so here are some of our highlights!
Along side our weekly sessions Bar School also had several trips and events. Here are some of our highlights.
Fresher’s is always a big week for Bar School and 2011 was no different! Along with running two stands at fresher’s fair we also ran a free cocktail master class as part of UWESU’s Watch it, Try it, Do it scheme.
In October Bar School attended RumFest for the third time. This massive two-day event allows visitors to sample the finest rums from around the world as well as try some Caribbean foods such as rum cake. Seminars on Rum were also available for the rum enthusiast or even if you simply wanted to try a chocolate and rum pairing!

For our Christmas Social this year Bar School reinvented the House Party with a menu of festive winter drinks alongside mulled wine, cider and fancy dress!
For Bar School’s annual trip last year we visited Prague. As well as sampling the nightlife we also toured the Pilsner Urquell brewery and visited the castle, amongst other sightseeing.
Bar School also made a short film for StudentCooking.TV. In this film we showed how to make proper drinks on a student budget as well as some basic flair. This video can be viewed on our Facebook page as well as www.studentcooking.tv

In July Bar School also visited Imbibe Live in London. This is a two-day drink exhibition covering all elements of drinks and related products with over 1000 different brands, 40 tastings, as well as demonstrations and seminars.
In 2012/13 Bar School hopes to one better itself with even more trips and events for our members!

This September! It’s September and that means one thing - FRESHERS!
Fresher’s week kicks off on Saturday 15th September and Bar School will be with you every step of the way to ensure it’s a week you’ll never forget!
During the week we will be having a Watch it, Try it, Do it session. This free session will be an abridged version of a Bar School session so you can see what we get up to first hand. We’ll be making some drinks for you to try, as well as showing you guys a bit of fair. You can participate as little or as much as you want in this session from simply watching what we do to having a go at flair yourself!
On Friday 21st September between 11am and 4pm will be UWE Fresher’s Fair. This is the largest Fresher’s Fair in the UK and the place to be on Friday 21st! Bar School will be on hand if you want to have a free drink and chat to us and find out from us what it’s all about. We will also have full information about what’s coming up in 2012/13 and what events and trips we will be going on throughout the year.
We will also be running a non-alcoholic alternative fruit drink stand at Fresher’s Fair in association with UWESU.
On Tuesday September 25th Bar School will be running it’s first official session. During this session we’ll get to know you and show you some of the basics. After this will be our first social of the year, and one not to be missed!
Cocktail of The Month!
Grape and Apple Carpriozka
Place 5 wedges of lime into an Old Fashioned Glass and add 6 white grapes. To this add 15ml of Sugar Syrup and muddle. Add 50ml of Vodka and crushed ice. Swizzle the drink using the bottom end of a bar spoon. Top with cloudy apple juice and garnish with a lime wedge.
Spirit of The Month
Vodka
During September we will also be running our usual sessions on Tuesday evenings at 7pm.
These sessions will either be Mixology, Flair or Bar Skills.
The first Mixology session will be Vodka. During this session we will learn a brief history of vodka. After this we will taste and compare a range of vodkas. The session will conclude by making a variety of cocktails using these Vodkas, which we will taste.
During a flair session you will be taught a range of spins, passes and throws. As the weeks progress these moves will be combined together into your very own flair routine.
Bar skill sessions are for teaching you the basics of bartending, from how to use the shaker to free pouring.
