It may have been bright and Sunny this week but autumn is in the air as we enter October. On Tuesday, we celebrated Harvest Festival. Mrs Macpherson introduced the rainbow of colour that Harvest provides and the importance of fruit and vegetables in our diet. The residents of Swan House and Oakwood Court were grateful for the generosity of our families and asked us to pass on their thanks. Holy Trinity opened their door to Y5 for a day of spirituality and craft. The children had a fabulous day and even met the Bishop. A group of Year 2 children and a member of their family attended a ’Reading University Workshop’ on Thursday and graduated with flying colours. Walk to school month has started, to encourage all our children to be healthy and active. Last Friday, Woodies celebrated it’s first birthday and I got active as I enjoyed a magical morning with Nursery and Miss Noakes in Forest School as we explored the world of Nature. Today has been beautifully quiet in Y5 as they undertook a sponsored silence in order to raise money for supplies for their newly acquired pet mice. They wrote me such persuasive and formal letters asking for a pet that I just had to say yes, on the condition that they took their new responsibility very seriously. Parent Consultation is on the horizon, please make sure you sign up for an appointment so we can discuss the progress your child is making. (Grids with times are in the Reception Foyer) I hope you manage to get outside this weekend and enjoy the many changing colours of Autumn. Mrs Newton Friday 7th October 2016

(Grids with times are in the Reception Foyer)

I hope you manage to get outside this weekend and enjoy the many changing colours of Autumn.

National Walk to School Month (3-21 Oct) As part of this National Campaign, we are promoting “Dazzles Door to Door Challenge” campaign. Every child has been given an A4 poster showing Dazzle’s journey to school. Children are encouraged to walk, cycle, scoot or ‘park & stride’ (park away and walk to school) during October. Every time they travel actively, children can tick off a square on the path from Dazzle’s house to school. At the end of the month, children will receive a bronze, silver or gold sticker depending on how many active journeys they make.

Is your child active in their journey to school?

Macmillan Coffee Afternoon

Preparation for Macmillan Coffee Afternoon began in school earlier in the week as a group of children made a chocolate cake for our special event. Gabriel Upcott, Logan Westley, Joe Carter, David Whitfield, Tyler Melia and Morton Bickley plus George Webb and Jaylee Bateman. As you can see the boys ranged from Year 2 to Year 5 but all worked together brilliantly with Gabriel taking the lead. What amazes me is that no-one ate the cake before the coffee afternoon.

Thank you to our lovely pastoral team for organising and thank you to all our families who supported the event to help raise money for such an important charity.

Woodies First Birthday!

A very special event occurred on Friday, all the children who have attended

Woodies regularly over the past year celebrated Woodies first birthday. There

were balloons, a disco by our own dancing lady - Mrs Fillingham, a delicious buffet and a fabulous birthday cake, created by Joanne Simpson. It was a fantastic party! Woodies is enjoyed by many of our children and the numbers of children attending continue to grow.. We work our children hard during the day and so Woodies provides a half way house. A place to relax, enjoy lovely and varied activities, often planned and suggested by the children. We have an incredible team who make Woodies so special: Mrs Alves, Miss Chapman, Mr Butler and Mrs Siddu.
