We have so many great classes and events planned that it will be spring before you know it!! We have been busy ordering and I can't wait for all of the new collections that will be coming in. Bernina is celebrating their 125th Anniversary in 2018 so there will be lots of events coming from that end too. Save the dates of April 13th and 14th for the Bernina Academy "Fear No Fabric" which will teach you how to sew on all kinds of fabrics and use all of those feet that have been sitting in your box. Come join us. We have SO MUCH FUN! You get to spend quality quilting time with your friends, with plenty of time to finish your projects and see some demos. You’ll have your meals prepared for you, and you can walk around the lovely grounds of Christ the King Retreat House. The cost is $345 for those who stay overnight and $260 for commuters. Registration begins Thursday, January 4, 2018. Call Patchwork Plus (315-673-2208) or stop by the shop to register. Half payment will be required at the time of sign-up. Space is limited, so sign up early.

Coming in April - Save the Date! ENGLISH PAPER PIECING (EPP)

April 7, 2018

What’s old is new again! This classic technique has been around for several generations (think Grandmother’s Garden blocks) and is now being embraced by today’s quilters. Liz Dougherty from Free Spirit Fabrics will be here on Saturday, April 7 and will teach the EPP technique and get us started with templates, patterns and books. We’ll start with the basic block and will look at new design trends and patterns available to today’s quilters. Saturday, April 7 10am - 3pm $40.00 Watch Judi’s Notes for more details.

The Patchwork Plus Quilt Retreat will be held at the Christ the King Retreat House and Conference Center beginning on Monday, May 14, 2018 and ending at noon on Thursday, May 17, 2018. It is located at 500 Brookford Road in Syracuse where the grounds are located in a secluded wooded area that is sure to inspire a relaxing and peaceful atmosphere.

Do we love snow in January? You bet! SNOW DYEING with Mandy Applebee So...lets celebrate the snow! Join Mandy and learn how to dye fabric using all that white stuff that falls from the sky!! Cost: $5.00 February 9, 1 - 4pm “Celebrate the Love of Embroidery” Join us for a party at the Patch to celebrate National Embroidery Month. Bring your completed projects from the past year for show and tell (we’re so proud of you!). Light refreshments and treats will be provided. We will also be offering a Spring Make and Take project. You don’t even have to bring your machine – we will set up machines for you! Party – Come and enjoy at no cost Make and Take Project - $5.00 March 24, 10 - 12pm “Put a Cork in It” Yes you can embroider with cork. We will be making an in-the-hoop zippered pouch using cork as the main fabric. Today’s cork comes in all colors and is a breeze to sew. Cost: $15 (includes pattern and class)

April 13 - 14 Bernina Academy: “Fear No Fabric”

Join us for this 2-day sewing course where you will master challenging fabrics and get schooled on proper seam and hem finishes. Burlap, cork, fur, velvet, knit and chiffon are some of the fabrics we will work with. Bernina Educator Michele Kratzer will guide you through French seams, lap seams, applique, lace insertion, rolled hems, sewing with knits, hemming and mending denim, sewing on buttons (yes, by the machine) and buttonholes. Discover the great feet Bernina has to master all these techniques. Students will leave the class with a 20 page Bernina Technique Book and a Bernina Academy collectible USB stick filled with inspiration, embroidery designs and projects for your next sewing session. CLASS POLICY REGISTRATION: A deposit of half the class fee must be paid when you register for a class. Phone-in registrations will be accepted with a credit card payment. The remainder of the fee is due at the first class. If you are registering for a class by mail, please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope for your supply list. REFUNDS: Refunds are available when a cancellation is made at least one week before the first class. In fairness to our teachers, if you cancel within 6 days of the class the fee is non-refundable unless there is a waiting list and your spot can be filled. If a class is cancelled by the teacher or Patchwork Plus, you will receive a full refund. SUPPLY LISTS: Supply lists for classes will be provided upon registration. If you are one of the first to sign up for a class, do not purchase supplies until we are sure that there will be sufficient enrollment. Due to copyright laws, if a book or pattern is required for the class it is expected that all students will purchase a copy.

Students receive a 10% discount on all class supplies. SEWING MACHINES: If you are bringing your sewing machine to class, it should be in good working order and have a new needle. Don’t forget the power cord, foot pedal and all your feet. Bring extra needles, threads, scissors, seam ripper, pins and rotary cutter with mat. If you are unable to bring your own sewing machine, a limited number of machines will be available for use in class. These machines will be available on a first come, first served basis. Please sign up for one when you register.

Acrobats HATS FOR THE SAMARITAN CENTER

If you were one of the 50 knitters who attended the Marcellus Knit In in November - THANK YOU! We delivered 211 hats to the Samaritan Center on December 5th and center director, Mary Beth Frey, assured us that come the first big snow storm or cold snap, the hats would soon be gone. The center’s clients are extremely grateful for the warmth of a new hat during our long Syracuse winters.

WOOL LOVER’S CLUB with Nancy Austin Come warm up with wool lover’s club! There are three meetings left as we work on Summertime Sampler by Erica Kaprow. This is a low key, fun-loving club for people who like to work with wool. It’s also a good place to learn how to appliqué with wool. Everyone works at their own pace and shares ideas. The club is designed to be no-pressure. Fridays: Jan 19, Feb 16, Mar 16 12 - 2pm $15 for three sessions.
