Once again Nowra High students excel, this time on the national stage. Mrs Leslie has organised for a group of international students from China to visit the school on a homestay basis from Saturday 23 July to Tuesday 8 August. We will require 15 host families willing to welcome the students into their home for this period. The students will attend school as part of a normal day. With the success of our visitors from France and Japan this is a great opportunity for our students to once again broaden their cultural horizons and global perspective. Mrs Leslie will provide further information in an upcoming Newsletter. Congratulations to Mr Ryan and the Nowra High Cattle team for another successful outing at the Braidwood Show. Details of all the cattle showing will be provided in an upcoming Newsletter. Once a fortnight the Year 12 Hospitality class, under the guidance of Ms Williams, run the Nosh Cafe from the school kitchens. This forms part of the Food and Beverage component of the Hospitality course and gives the students valuable hands-on experience. Their efforts last week with a feta and spinach tart accompanied by a nicely brewed cup of coffee were better than any coffee shop in Nowra, well done Year 12. The Year 7 2017 Information Evening was held recently and there was a good number of parents and Year 6 students in attendance. It was a very balmy evening and I was very proud of the NHS students who entertained, presented information and conducted tours around the school for the parents and students. Thank you to these students for giving up their time after school: Rhianna Tuckerman, Harry McGill, Milly Bristow, Emily Klein, Elle Murray, Adam Jorgensen, Taylor McCoy, Natasha Kettlewell, Brin McKinnon, Chloe Parkinson, Oliver Rodden, Jenny Spark, Shakirra Regaldo, Hayden Strand, Gemma Thompson, Alicia Sleeman, Cameron Fernie, Bianca McIver, Rosie Cockrem, Katarina Bullock, Jaxon Forrester, Leigh Hutchinson, Jessica Ibrahim, Matthew Nash, Elecia Parrott, Erin Monsalve and Zaid Forrester. The P&C AGM was conducted on Tuesday 15 March. There has been a changing of the guard and I would like to express my appreciation for the efforts and commitment of Gordon Clark, Kira Bradley and Emily Williams in providing an effective leadership team over the last few years. The P&C plays an important role in maintaining effective support and communication between the parent body and the school as well as generating additional funds through the running of the school canteen to support the learning needs of all students. Congratulations to the new P&C executive, unfortunately the position of Treasurer could not be filled on the night, so if you are interested in undertaking this position to support the students and parents of the school then please contact one of the new P&C executive. YEAR 7 SCHOOL CAMP - 2016

On the Wednesday 24th to Friday 26th of February 2016 we had a Year 7 camp. It was really fun and we did heaps of cool stuff.

It all started at 7:30 am for the bus trip. It was so fun on the bus. None of us could wait to get there. Everyone ate heaps on the bus. Some people overdid it a little and got sick but lets not worry too much about that. The bus trip felt like it went forever.

We finally got there not realising that it would be one of the best experiences of our lives. We did things that we never thought possible. Every single person challenged themselves and we all achieved great things.

When we got there we were put into random groups with new people that we had never met. It was a great experience to make new friends. Our instructors were great and pushed us to our limits.

Some of the activities we did included; caving (where we crawled through tight spaces), giant swing (we went up 15 metres then pulled a rope to release ourselves), the flying fox (we stepped off a 9 metre tower and flew down a wire for 30 metres), water slide (where we slid down a slide with water in it), orienteering (where we had to self direct each other with only a map and compass), Challenge valley ( where we went through an obstacle course full of mud) and abseiling (where we walked down a cliff edge). The activities were great.

The meals were great, the activity's were the best and the instructors were even better.

On behalf of every kid in year 7 we would like to thank all of the teachers involved in making this camp happen and we appreciate the tireless effort of Miss Little. We would also like to thank our parents for paying a lot of money and for taking us and picking us up at unusual hours.

James Horner

China Cultural Exchange 23 July - 1 August

Nowra High School is excited to be welcoming a student group from China this year. Our students have shown that they are very interested in world cultures and languages and that they appreciate the benefits of a cultural exchange.

To ensure the success of this venture, which is supported by the Department of Education, we are seeking host families for fourteen stu-dents for 10 nights, from 23 July - 2 August 2016. The students will attend school each day with their host siblings.

The students will range in age from 12 - 18 years and will include boys and girls. All successful host families will receive a financial contribu-tion to help with expenses involved in hosting.

For further information, please ring Mrs Leslie at Nowra High School on 4421 4977. You may also print and complete the attached application form, then scan and forward it to Mrs Leslie at the following email address: [email protected]

Nowra High School ‐ It’s News To Me

Nowra High School Year 10 English students were invited to participate in an exciting initiative with 2UUU FM in 2015, which has continued this year. Local teacher and historian, John Blackmore, has partnered up with Mr David Hawksworth from 2UUU to record stories and have them aired on local radio. These popular stories have been written by John and reflect back on local sporting events, set against the social backdrop of our community. A number of stories were recorded last year with Mr Gardiner's 10:1 students and this year the initiative is continuing with a group of students from Ms Raitelli's 10:1 class. You can hear them on local radio after the 9am news. A big thank you to John Blackmore for inviting our students to be involved in this wonderful project. The schedule is as follows:
