ITC Midwest and Xcel Energy are hostingpublic open houses on June 20 in Mapletonand June 21 in Mankato for the proposedHuntley-Wilmarth 345 kilovolt (kV)transmission line project. The Huntley-Wilmarth project is needed to reducecongestion on the transmission grid insouthern Minnesota and northern Iowa thatis inhibiting low-cost electricity fromgeneration facilities, including wind farms inthe area, from reaching customers.
Representatives from ITC Midwest and XcelEnergy will take comments and answerquestions from landowners and interested

About the ProjectThe proposed Huntley-Wilmarthproject will provide economicbenefits by enabling more low cost electric generation to reachcustomers in the region. ITCMidwest and Xcel Energy intend tofile necessary permits to build theapproximately 40-50 mile 345 kVtransmission line in southernMinnesota. The transmission linewould connect Xcel Energy’sWilmarth Substation, north ofMankato, and ITC Midwest’s HuntleySubstation, south of Winnebago(view map). The projected in-servicedate for the project is the end of2021. Xcel Energy will be the leadutility for construction of the projectif the project is approved by theMinnesota Public UtilitiesCommission.
