Best Practices
The roundtable discussions were a success last year so once again, this format will be provided to give all attendees the opportunity to ask Volunteers and CEOs questions and share ideas with fellow participants.
Breakout Sessions
There will be three breakout sessions on Friday with 9 different topic starting at 8:45am, 10:00 am and 11:15am to give each attendee the chance to hear three of the featured speakers and listen to topics that are relevant to your credit union. Be sure to have your bags handy as speakers may provide handout materials relevant to their presentation.
Children’s Miracle Network Luncheon and Auction
Auction items to be donated should be taken to the CCACU Hospitality Desk. The Silent Auction items will be displayed during the “Welcome Luau” on Wednesday evening and bids can be received at that time and during the Breakfast with Sponsors on Thursday and Friday mornings and just prior to the start of the Live Auction. Stop in and bid on items during the following hours:

SPEAKER INFORMATION
Dan Mahalak. Dan is the President & Managing Partner of Cindrich, Mahalak & Co., P.C., a
CPA firm specializing in the credit union industry. He joined the firm in 1980 upon graduating from
Eastern Michigan University and became a partner in 1988. He is a certified public accountant and a
member of both the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Michigan
Association of Certified Public Accountants (MACPA).
Throughout his career Dan has worked in all phases of the practice. He is involved in all audit activities
and works closely with the staff in training and development. He personally reviews all audit files and
reports as part of the firm’s quality control standards. His extensive experience allows him to provide
clients with unique problem solving insights.
Throughout his tenure, Dan has been responsible for hundreds of credit union audits, and worked in
fraud/embezzlement investigations, including filing bond claims, working with authorities, and testify-
ing in criminal proceedings. He also works with credit unions in budgeting and forecasting, asset-
liability management consulting, strategic planning, mergers and acquisitions, human resources consult-
ing, regulatory consulting, and a variety of other consulting projects. He is a frequent speaker on topics
related to the credit union industry on both a local and national level. He has written articles for several
credit union publications.
Cindrich, Mahalak & Co., P.C. is one of the largest credit union auditing firms in the country. They
currently audit credit unions ranging from less than $5 million to well over $1 billion in assets. They
have concentrated their practice in credit unions and their subsidiaries since their inception in 1971.
Dan will be providing BSA training again this year.
John McKenzie. John has served as president of the Indiana Credit Union League since 1990.
Prior to that, he held other senior management positions with the Indiana League Services Corporation
(Servicecorp) and Indiana’s corporate credit union during the 1980s. He is recognized by Hoosier credit
unions as an effective leader at a League whose affiliates represent more than 95 percent of the credit
union members and assets statewide. Under his leadership, Servicecorp created its Credit Union Card
Center division which has offered credit and debit card processing to credit unions for decades.
Currently, Credit Union Card Center provides credit and debit card processing services to 117 credit
unions with more than 340,000 cardholders. McKenzie also played a key role in establishing Indiana’s
shared branching network beginning in the early 1990s. That network currently serves credit unions
representing more than two-thirds of Indiana’s 2.2 million credit union members. He was also instru-
mental in overseeing the growth of the League’s group health insurance plan which currently serves
3,500 credit union employees and dependents statewide. He has also made it a high priority to engage
elected officials and others in conversations about credit unions, and he is recognized by legislators as
a valuable advocate for Indiana credit unions. He is a past board member of the Credit Union National
Association.
James M. Olson. Jim is on the faculty of the Bush School of Government and Public Service
at Texas A & M University, where he teaches courses on intelligence and national security. He served
his entire career in the CIA’s Directorate of Operations. His career highlights include serving as the
chief of CIA counterintelligence at CIA headquarters and in overseas assignments in Moscow, Vienna,
and Mexico City. He lives in College Stations, Texas.
Jim is our Keynote Speaker. He will be presenting “The CIA and the War on Terror”
SPEAKER INFORMATION
Ken Otsuka is a Senior Consultant in the Credit Union Protection Risk Management Department for
CUNA Mutual Group. In this role, Ken is responsible for researching and analyzing emerging risks for
product development along with developing resource and other training material for credit unions.
Ken also assists credit unions in identifying areas of risk in their operations, and recommends appropri-
ate loss controls to reduce loss exposure.
Ken is frequently asked to speak by various organizations on a variety of fraud and compliance topics.
He is considered an expert on Federal Reserve Regulation CC and he often conducts training seminars
on the regulation.
Based in Chicago, Illinois, Ken joined Risk Management in 1990 after spending eight years as an auditor
at another insurance company.
A graduate of Northern Illinois University, Ken earned a Bachelor’s Degree in accounting. He received
a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation in 1982.
Ken’s topics will include Credit Unions Exposure to Data Breaches, Identity Theft and Online Banking
Risks.
Rik Roberts. Rik began his speaking career in 1992 as a Stand-Up Comedian in Columbus,
OH. He also toured the country as part of the improvisational comedy troupe “Midwest Comedy Tool
& Die”.
After earning a degree in communications from Bethany College, Rik worked for Simon & Schuster in
Columbus, OH. He joined a nationally touring comedy troupe “Midwest Comedy Tool & Die [MCTD]
in 1992. Shortly thereafter, he decided to jump head first into stand-up comedy. He now has over
twenty years of headlining experience across the United States and abroad.
His comedy is 100% clean and appropriate for each audience. He’s appeared in his own episode of the
award winning BANANAS COMEDY SHOW which features the nation's top "clean" comedians.
Believing that the world needs more clean comedy, Rik teaches comedy writing workshops across the
country and online through his “School of Laughs”.
Rik spends his time off stage writing comedy songs – many of which are aired daily on Sirius XM ra-
dio’s LaughUSA and Blue Collar Radio channels. Of his 7 comedy CD’s, two are still available for
purchase on RikRoberts.com.
His love of all thing country led to him being featured on CMT's "20 Greatest Redneck Moments". He
also was a writer and performer on “The Henry Cho Comedy Show” on Great American Country.
Rik will delight us with a touch of Mayberry in his “The Mayberry Method” presentation.
Frank Santucci. Mr. Santucci joined First Empire Securities, Inc. in September 1985 as a
Fixed Income Specialist. Between 1985 and 1993 he worked with hundreds of institutional investors
nationwide assisting them in the purchase and sale of fixed income securities.
In January 1994, Mr. Santucci was promoted to his current position of Senior Vice President and
Managing Director of Asset Liability Management Services. His primary responsibilities include the
administration of First Empire's Asset Liability Management Team and Financial Strategies Group and
the development of balance sheet and investment portfolio strategies for clients of the firm. Mr. San-
tucci is also the principal author of the Balance Sheet Management Services’ ALM Model. In addi-
tion, Mr. Santucci is a frequent speaker at regional and national conferences on various ALM and risk
management techniques, as well as current industry trends.
Prior to joining First Empire, Mr. Santucci served as an Account Executive for Guardian Financial
Group, Huntington Beach, California, a financial services company specializing in investments and
insurance products for 401(K) and the defined benefit plans of Fortune 500 companies.
