Te beaches are the place where people talk to them-selves, where people release their stresses, where peo-

ple become themselves.Tere is no doubt we Sri Lankans are lucky to have

beaches all around ourselvesBut 65% o beaches around Sri Lanka are not in the

condition you expect, since they are heavily polluted with

glass, plastic bags, bottles, coconut shells and torn shoes.Mt. Lavinia is considered as a major point o tourists’ attrac-tion in Sri Lanka. Mt. Laviniya is one o the mist beauti ul

beaches where anyone can enjoy sun, sand and beach. odaythe tourism towards Mt. Laviniya is affected badly by the dirty

beach.We UoM Leos launched a beach cleaning campaign at Mt.Laviniya beach on 12th o March. We went with empty garbage

bags and returned with loads o polyethylene bags, plastic cups,bottles, glass bottles, metal cans...

It was a pleasing moment or all o us to see the area without a sin-gle distraction o dirty place around. Te members o the club really

enjoyed the day and leave the beauti ul Mt.Laviniya beach as it wasgifed by the nature.

Leadership is unlocking potential o peopleto become better. Te pessimist complainsabout the wind, the optimist expects it tochange, but the leader adjusts the sails. Leaderis the one who adjust according to the situationto ace any problem with sel condence. Guid-ing others to the correct route is also a respon-sibility o a leader. As UoM Leos, we organized aprogramme to enhance the leadership qualities ostudents as it is very important to develop leader-ship qualities within school children.

Tis leadership development programme was heldon 19th o March at Methodist College, Hakmana. Wedid many entertainment activities with the studentso Methodist College. Tey were very much interestedin those activities. Tey simply learned how to involvein team work and how to go or a goal with effort. Asleaders we were able to lead them in the right path tobecome good leaders because the unction o leadership isto produce more leaders, not more ollowers. Leaders arethe creators o their li e. So ace the li e wisely and positively.Ten denitely you are a leader.

Mahesh Abeywickrama Memorial Inter School Debating Competition 2016 was an event where this saying wasnicely proven.Every year Leo Club o University o Moratuwa organize the Mahesh Abewickrama Memorial Interschooldebating competition in the university premises in memory o the past president in leoistic year 2004/2005Mahesh Abewickrama, who lef us at an unexpected time. He was a beloved brother, an undergraduate o Uni- versity o Moratuwa and especially an initial member o Leo club o UoM who has done a great service towardsthe betterment o the club.For the consecutive 4th time Mahesh Abeywickrama Memorial Inter School Debating Competition 2016 wassuccess ully held on 26th o March 2016 at University Premises with the participation o 12 leading schools inwestern province.From the rst round onwards it was a tough game between every team. Bright curious eyes o the audiencewere staring at the stage eagerly waiting to know the seminalists and the nalists o the competition. D.S.Senanayake College, Gothami Balika Vidyalaya, Royal College and Ladies College made the ambience o theaudience very tensed in the seminals. Breaking the tension o the audience Gothami Balika Vidyalaya andD.S. Senanayake College got through to the nals.Te most exciting things happen towards the end o a competition with the people deserving the victory get-ting the glory. Te same was true or Mahesh Abeywickrama Debatinig Competition. Filling the audience withmore and more thrill and will D.S.Senanayaka College became the champions o this year’s Mahesh Abeywick-rama Memorial Inter School Debating Competition.

o grace this occasion, Leo Pramod Wimalathunga, District President, 306 A2 marked his presence as theChie Guest and Mr. Hasitha Wijesundara, Attorney at Law and Founder member and Current President o“Sasnaka Sansada” marked his presence as the guest o honor.

Silent MovesChess is a game between two power ul

minds. Unlike the rest o indoor games itimproves the ability o prediction be oredanger. It teaches about the li e, li e is like

a game o chess, changing with each move.Silent Move 2016 was a place or the Chess

players island wide. UoM Leos organized aChess tournament or the players seeking the

challenges. Leo Club o Nawala Metro and LeoClub o University o Kelaniya also contribut-

ed in organizing the event on 24th March at theUniversity premises o Moratuwa. Multiple district

president Leo Dumindu Jayakody and MultipleDistrict Vice President Leo Rajitha Abegunasekara

added colour to the event with their presence. Tetournament was held all over the day and ended up

with nding out the best players or the worriers o themind battle. With bunch o experiences the event was

success ully concluded by UoM Leos with the contribu-tion o the Leos o the District 306 A2.

Te game Chess let us to think in broader manner, simplyChess board is the world, the pieces are the phenomena o

the universe, the rules o the game are what we call law onature and the player on the other side is hidden rom us as

Surely, your li e may have ll-up with plenty o dreams. Just think or a minute, are thosedreams attainable? Sometimesyour answer will be “Yes”. But some o your answer couldbe “No”. As all o we know, traditional goal setting theories says that a gall should bemeasurable and attainable.

But when we think with our common sense, it’s better to aim bit ar away where that youcan reach and you want to reach. While you are working on that target where bit ar awaywith the level o actually you want to archive, obviously you will pass a level which canbesatised.

At the same time, keep in your mind to do a sel -review about the path you came, at everylandmark which you are passing in your journey to your goal. Get a clear understandingabout the things, you ailed and you succeeded. Always, make your li e happy about thething you have success ully completed. For sure it will energize and motivate you or theremaining part o your journey which you have to complete.Don’t be demotivated with the things you were unsuccess ul. Understand, why you ailed,where you ailed. Tose things will guide you while reaming part o your journey to at-

tain the dream.

Annual sports event o Leo dis-trict 306 A2 was held at Horanaaxila Ccollege ground on 27th

o March with abulous strengtho Leos.Tis event was lled with

running events, long jump, high jump and volley ball. so many Leosper ormed their talents rom running

events and volley ball event showed a bigcompetition among young Leos. Most o

the Leo clubs who belongs to district 306A2 were participated this event. UoM Leos

showed their outstanding per ormances onall events. Tey won the best participation

award and they won this award regularly lastew years.Tis event was totally organized by

the young Leos and they showed that the spirito Leos and the power o team working through

this event.
