Leo Olympic 2016

One o the most awaited day or theLeos o the district 306 A2 was 3rd o April.With the collaboration o each and everyclub o the district the sports day o the yearor Leos was successully held at Horanaaxila Central College grounds.

Leos took part in games with a greatenthusiasm. Te event was with number osports such as running events, Basketball,Netball, Long Jump and much more.Young crowd all over the district had a nicetime finding new riends around and the

competition makes them closer. Toughthe climate was not avorable or sports onthat day since it was hot Leos didn’t hesitateto go play in sun. We UoM Leos took partin several games and won most o them.Indeed it was a day to remember or all theLeos.

At the end o the day we UoM Leoslef the ground premises with bunch osweet memories in our hearts.

Te most beautiul thing in thisworld is to see your parents smiling andknowing that you are the reason behind

those generous smiles. But in today’s worldthere are so many parents who cry alonein elders’ homes because o their children.Tese parents have shed their blood andsweat to raise their children into perectpersonalities in the society having so manyhopes and dreams in their minds. But theirhopes have broken into pieces and now

they are lef alone in the world.Moratumulla Methodist Elders’Home is one such place which is the shelteror ew mothers who are lef alone in thisworld. Every year, we UoM Leos makea small effort to bring some light to theirgloomy lives. Tis time we visited themon 7th o April 2016. Teir happy smilingaces depicted that they were waiting orour visitation. For the whole evening theysang with us, danced with us and sharedtheir lie time stories with us. And also wehad tea and snacks with them. We elt likewe were their saviors, who pulled them uprom their gloomy lonely lives. Seeing theirsmiling, lightened up aces we elt sorry,who on earth can leave such nice mothers

alone in this world like this. Your parents might not be perect,but they are the most precious gif god hasever given you. Never orget your parentsor leave them behind because you areashamed to have them around you. Teyare the reason why you are here and whoyou are today. So love your parents and

treat them with care. Don’t leave them atelders’ homes. Because you will only knowtheir values when you see their empty seats.

Each and every human being on thisearth expects a healthy lie. Unortunately

we all happened to ace or the illnesses.But some o the illnesses can be predictedbeore it attacks us. And we can find out theway to avoid the illnesses beore the danger.As it is said “Prevention is better than cure.” A ree blood testing program wasorganized by UoM leos on 10th April atKandy town hall. Te residents nearby

participate in campaign in great interest.Senkadagala Laboratory was conductingthe testing session throughout the day.

Beginning o a new year is the ideal time to reresh the mind o everyoneand to fill up the mind with new expectations. As a amily, UoM Leos always gettogether to share their happy and sad times with the others. In the month Bak, weorganized an awurudu programme to enhance the bondages o all Leos, prospects,past Leos and Leos rom A2 district. Tis glamorous occasion was held on 10th oApril in Lagaan area o University o Moratuwa with the participation o about fify

Leos. As customary we arranged awurudu meals or all Leos giving priority or therituals. While ‘avurudu’ customs help to maintain age old traditions and strengthenbonds, they also play a significant role in promoting community harmony.Wholethe day was filled with happy and joy with the different games such as “Kottapora”,“Kanamuttibideema”,”Baniskama”, “Aliyataasathabima”, Lime and spoon, passingeggs and etc. Tese games brought un and joy to our lives and at the same time,taught us a valuable lesson about team spirit. Tat day helped us to begin the NewYear with smiles on our aces.

Most o us don’t think about thewater we drink. We turn on a tap,

fill a glass, and drink. As we getwell purified water it would notmake huge effect on our health. Butduring the last ew months, people inMatara area aced a severe drinkingwater problem. Tat is because oindustrial waste which was disposed

to Nilwala River. Many people usedbottled water. It was hard to find away o having a pure water bottle. Sosupplying purified water or hospitalswas a huge problem. UOM Leos

initiated in distributing drinkingwater bottles among patients oKamburugamuwa hospital, Mataraon 11th o April. We distributed the

water bottles or them with a snack.It was a great relie or them to havepure water bottle at that time. Teeffort o UOM Leos was appreciatedby everyone.

Carom is an interesting and highly accessible indoor amily game due to itssimplicity and portability. A carom tournament “Aim strikers” was held on 23rdo April, which is organized by Leos o Leo Multiple district 306. Leo club oBaddegama , Leo club o Battaramulla Synergy , Leo club o Ingiriya United, Leoclub o Katuwawala , Leo club o Unawatuna Diamond stars, Leo club o GampahaMetro, Leo club o Piliyandala and Leo club o University o Moratuwa joined theirhands together in this great event. Liberty International pre-school o piliyandalawas ull o team participants rom various Leo clubs o the multiple district 306.Aim o every one was to win, so the day was very competitive. But at end o the day,everyone said that it was a unny Saturday with Leo amilies o Sri Lanka.

Blood Donation As humans, we all love or long lie.But we hear many tragic stories in our daytoday lie. But many deaths can be avoidedi they receive correct blood type in thoseincidents. So blood donation is such aworthy case which can save millions opeople’s lie. Blood donation is a voluntary

procedure. I you agree to have blooddrawn, then it can be given to someonewho needs a blood transusion. Millions opeople need blood transusions each year.Some may need blood during surgery.Others depend on it afer an accident orbecause they have a disease that requiresblood components. Blood donation makes

all o this possible. Tis valuable service was done byUoM Leos on 27th o April at Old gym oUniversity o Moratuwa. Large number ostudents got together their hand to makethis event a successul one. Many studentswho have the sensitivity towards otherhuman beings came to donate their blood.

Humanity was well embossed in thatproject because without a good heart theywould never tend to do this generous work. I you are a blood donor, you area hero to someone, somewhere, whoreceived your gracious gif o lie. I you giveblood you give another birthday, anotheranniversary, another day at the beach,

another night under the stars, another talkwith a riend, another laugh, another hugand another chance. Be a hero and save alie.

Bak”, all Sinhalese and Hindus celebratethe Sinhala and Hindu Aluth Auruddaover a long period o time. “Aluth Aurudda” is all aboutbringing the prosperous good thoughtsto everyone’s minds. But unortunately,the new generation is not very muchinterested in these traditions. On the

other hand, as the youth it is our duty toteach the traditions to our juniors. So as a step to ulfill the duty, UoM

Leos celebrated the “Aluth Aurudda” withthe children at the Sumudu Montessorion 29th o April. It was one o raremoment o children and youth havingun together. One o the Leo memberssaid that all those moments with

children brought back the memories ochildhood. For children it was a greatmoments to learn traditional values in amuch happier way. A lot o “Aluth Aurudu “games werearranged and with the help o teachers,Leos were able to give a great time or thechildren. In most o Aurudu estivals, the

youth is mainly targeted. But in here theyouth is targeted the children. So againI’S US - Leos who do the change.

Ganan Seethalata

Every child in this world has theright to get a proper education. But iwe think or ew seconds, do you reallythink children in the rural areas have thecapability to get the proper education aswe do. Te main issue in rural areas is,

the children do not have the proper mindset to get a good education due to severalissues they have to ace in their lives. It issaid that nine tenths o education is theencouragement. So it is the mindset thatwe have to change within those children

and give the encouragement or them toget educated.

So as UoM Leos, we conductedanother seminar under our continuousproject “Api Akurata Meli Nowemu” inthe name o “Ganan Seethalata”. Tis wasthe 9th phase o this seminar series. Tistime the selected venue was B/WelimadaCentral College and it was held on6th o May. We were able to conduct

a mathematics seminar or about 400students. A model math paper was givento those students and discussed it withthem. It was a successul session wherewe were able to give our best or thosestudents.
