Celebrating the spirit of our city

The backdrop

From a history that traces back to over 2500 years, to an emerging cosmopolis with over

5000 small, medium and large industries, Coimbatore, the Manchester of the South is

one that has metamorphosed into a kaleidoscope of cultures and flavours. The city's

spirit of enterprise is steeped in a foundation of education, healthcare and

infrastructure development. Its strategic location and well connected network to

major global destinations, a salubrious climate and the genuine warmth of its people

make the city the ideal place to celebrate its myriad facets. It is a city that has made us

all and one that we passionately continue enhancing in various ways. In this fast

changing world to which our city is also part of, it is important to preserve many aspects

of our culture or things that we term “Coimbatoreness”. In other words we have to

preserve the best of our past to make a great Coimbatore for the future.

The Coimbatore Vizha

Coimbatore Vizha is an endeavour to bring alive the spirit of celebration of the city we

all call home. Vizha will give both residents and travellers a chance to see the different

sides of the city: its entrepreneurial spirit and life in the lighter vein in a week's

duration. It is an effort to bring alive the strong cosmopolitan traits of Coimbatore and

project the city as a happening, must see destination on the global map.

The effort was to bring together every organization that has over years and decades

added to the experience or spirit of the city, and to do an event or a series of events.

Now, time has come for Coimbatorians to once again get together and celebrate the

various aspects of our city – its heritage, industrial legacy, entrepreneurial spirit,

The makers

Coimbatore Vizha is an event visualised and organised by Coimbatore Chapter of Young

Indians, an integral part of The Confederation of Indian Industry in association and

partnership with various associations, fora and interest groups that have been a part of

Coimbatore's cultural Scope.

The events

The nine-day Vizha will truly celebrate every aspect that makes the spirit that is

Coimbatore. Every day of the Vizha there would be events at various locations that

portray the rich legacy and heritage of Coimbatore, in a way that will enhance the

cultural ethos of the emerging Cosmo polis.

Coimbatore Vizha helped to create a sense of unity in Coimbatore between people from different walks of life.

Helped each of us to nourish the great tradition, history and its leaders. It taught us that all of us not only have

something to give to the society but all canreceive from one another too in different fields like art music culture etc.
