A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN I hope your holiday season was great. Certainly mine was, although too short. We are down to the last two weeks of resident applicant recruitment. I want to thank everyone involved in the effort. Since this year had unique challenges the effort is even more impressive. The candidates for both Pediatrics and Med-Peds have been very impressive and from a wide geographic range of schools. All note the openness and friendliness of the residents and staff. Keep up the good work and we should have a superb Match.
! I hope most of you saw the news about the groundbreaking for CAMLS, Center for Advanced Medical Learning and Simulation. Dr. Laura Haubner, Division of Neonatology, was announced as the Director of Simulation for this new facility which will be in downtown Tampa. It should open in the next 18 months. Simulation will become even more important in the future and it is fantastic to have a Pediatrician in a leadership role. Please congratulate Laura when you see her.
! January is the the month of the Circus and the Gasparilla Childrenʼs Parade. I hope those who were at the Ringling Bros. Circus enjoyed the performance. The Parade will be on Saturday, January 22. I hope to see you there.

PEDIATRICS
! The USF Health Department of Pediatrics and the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile will once again be participating in the Childrenʼs Gasparilla Parade. The parade will be held on Saturday, January 22 beginning at 3:30 in the afternoon.
! The parade has been a lot of fun in years past for both marchers and those in attendance. Come on down to Bayshore and show your Bull pride!
! A ground breaking ceremony was held on the morning of January 11th to mark the beginning of construction on the new USF Health Center for Advanced Medical Learning and Simulation. (CAMLS) When completed CAMLS will be a 90,000 square foot, state-of-the-art conference and learning facility that will transform the way healthcare professionals train. Creative learning models and simulators designed to help participants practice and perfect complex medical techniques will be utilized in the new facility. The Centerʼs Research and Innovation Lab will design and test new surgical and medical devices. !

CAMLS Ground Breaking
Children’s Gasparilla Parade
Asked to speak at the ground breaking ceremony were USF President Judy Genshaft, Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio and Dr. Stephen Klasko, CEO of USF Health and dean of the College of Medicine.
Once completed, the Center will become an important addition to downtown Tampa. It is estimated that as many as 60,000 learners will visit the Tampa Bay community to train and learn at CAMLS. However, the greatest benefit will be to the patients of those medical professionals that utilize the new USF Health facility.
