Tres magnique!
-Monica Mahafey
SantaClaus paid a
special visit to the
Club at our Count-
down to Christmas Party
on December 19th. There
were plenty of photo oppor-
tunities for everyone - young
and old. Club member Doug
Boettner finally got his chance to
talk to Santa after patiently wait-
ing his turn (bottom right).
The kids also got a special sur-
prise. MICKEY MOUSE paid
us a visit! He gave out hugs
and posed for lots of pic-tures and even let his
young friends check
out his nose.

Join old friends and new for tartans and bagpipes, songs and stories, neeps& tatties and haggis, poetry, whisky, the Cup of Kindness, and lots andlots of laughter. The evening begins at 6 p.m. with cocktails in the livingroom followed by a bagpipe procession at 7 p.m. into the candlelit maindining room for a traditional Scottish buffet. (American options available
as well). There will also be a special raffle for a bottle of Robert BurnsSingle Malt Scotch Whisky from Isle of Arran Distillers.
Born on January 25, 1759 in Alloway, Robert Burns is Scotlands mostfamous poet. He died from complications of rheumatic heart disease atjust 37 years of age. In that short lifetime, however, he became Scotlandsmost famous poet and lyricist, penning such works as Tam O Shanter,
Auld Lang Syne, and To a Mouseto name just a few. His works have hada profound effect on successive generations and, because his legacy is sowell-loved, his birthday is celebrated each year around the world.
According to RobertBurns.org, Burns Suppers range from the formalgatherings to uproariously informal rave-ups of drunkards and louts. Most adhere to some sort of time
-honored tradition including a Scottish
meal, the drinking of Scotch whisky and the recitation of works by, about, and in the spirit of the Bard.
The University Clubs annual black tie optional affair falls somewhere inbetween! Dress tends to be semi-formal, with most ladies in evening attireand gentlemen in suits, tuxedos or traditional kilts; but the atmosphere isanything but stuffy. This years event will once again be hosted by Clubboard member Meredith Helgerson who has presidedover several Burns Suppers inspired by her honey-moon travels in Scotland.
Tickets are $60 each, seating is strictly limited to 70and reservations are required by Monday, January19th. Call the club at 518-463-1151 or purchase tick-

TAXFUNDINCREASE
BEGINSTHISMONTH
The club's combined school andproperty tax bill is approximately$35,500 per year. Our current taxfund covers approximately 2/3 ofthat amount, with the rest having tocome from proceeds from the clubsbusiness activities.
The Board of Directors recently vot-
ed to increase the fund so that it co-vers the entire amount of our tax bill.Given the current number of mem-bers, this means an increase of $11per month per member beginning onyour current bill. This modest in-crease will ensure that the club has arecurring source of revenue to paythe taxes.

The Clubs 2nd Artist in Residence, Channing
Lefebvre, resides in Latham and holds a BFA
with Great Distinction in Painting from the Art
Center College of Design in Pasadena, California
and attended the Ohio University in Athens, Ohio
and the Graduate Program in Printmaking at the
State University of New York at Albany.
When asked about his art, Channing notes that, In exploring the relationshipbetween abstraction and representation, I try to evoke a mood -a harmony -abalance. I pare down Natures compositions, looking for essential form and notanalytical detail. Im attracted to an indistinct space, a dimension without depth.Color is the seducer. Line is the intuitive response.
He has exhibited in many galleries, museums and arts venues, including: Alba-ny Center Gallery; Lauren Clark Fine Art, Great Barrington, Massachusetts;Pendle Print Biennial, Lancashire, United Kingdom; Center for Contemporary
Printmaking, Norwalk, Connecticut; Sanford Gallery at Zea Mays Printmaking,Florence, Massachusetts; Bendheim Gallery, Greenwich, Connecticut; OpalkaGallery, Albany; Evergreen Arts Center, Evergreen, Colorado and many more.
