    This Week: Cradled Gift

The Epiphany is the revelation that Jesus is the Savior of all nations. Today we read about the traveling Magi. It is a long journey for these

Magi and once they finally arrive at the manger scene, they offer their treasures to the Lord. It was revealed to the Magi by the star that the cradled gift, the ultimate treasure in life, is Jesus Christ. Today, we step up to the manger scene with the Magi and say with them, Jesus you are our treasure and at the same we acknowledge Him as true King, true Lord and true man.

We offer Jesus gold by believing and proclaiming that He is the King who eternally reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, the Blessed Trinity, One God in three persons. Frankincense is offered every time we give Him, the true Lord, our praise and worship. Incense is used in our liturgical worship. During the Mass, incense signifies that the Mass is a true sacrifice and our prayers rising into the sight of our Savior and King. We offer Jesus myrrh by putting to death the sin in our lives and by offering our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God. This is our true and proper worship (Rom 12:1). Similarly, myrrh was placed on His body after He endured His passion and experienced death on the account of our sin. As well as for our salvation when His swaddling clothes were exchanged for burial clothes.

Indeed, the Magi (the wise men) had their epiphany which declares to us now not only that the Gentiles are coheirs of salvation, but also the infant placed in the manger, is true God and true man, Lord of all and King of the Universe. At the same time, there is a popular Christmas card, that says “Wise men still follow Him.”

Nonetheless, we all come from the same human species whose scientific name in Latin is Homo Sapiens in other words we all are homo sapiens and that word translated into English means wise man. What does the Bible say about the wise man? “A fool is quick tempered but a wise man stays calm when insulted” (Prov 12:16) and “Everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and buffeted the house. But it did not collapse; it had been set solidly on rock” (MT 7:24-27). Jesus Christ, our rock, will help us to stay strong and weather any storm by being grounded in His word. It is within us to be a wise man or a wise woman. It is part of our human genius and species to follow Christ, like the Magi from the east who offered him, gold among other gifts because that precious metal is fit for a King. May this new born King reign over all us in all we say and do this Christmas Season and Beyond.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! As we celebrate the year of St. Joseph, we ask

him, a just and wise man, to pray for us.

    Jubilee Christmas 2020

“On December 12 and 13, Blessed Sacrament was privileged to serve as a host site for Lafayette Urban Ministry’s Jubilee Christmas program, which provides gifts of food and toys to area

families in need. This year, we served 30 families with a total of 81 children. Jubilee Christmas was completely reimagined this year for the safety of the both the guests and the host site volunteers. That meant that the majority of the work was done before the event occurred! In addition to donating money and gifts, our parishioners donated their time shopping for and organizing the gifts, filling boxes with groceries and household items, baking cookies and assembling them into tins, filling stockings, and selecting gifts for each of the 81 children on our list. We had another army of volunteers on the distribution days who welcomed guests, directed traffic, served hot chocolate, staged and loaded gifts and groceries, and even delivered gifts to those families who had no way of getting to the church to pick them up. This was truly a labor of love for all who were involved! Even though the gifts were distributed in a drive-up manner, we did our best to show our love and care to each and every guest. I would like to thank Monica Harris, my co-chair, for her dedication to this ministry, the Knights of Columbus for assisting with loading and delivering gifts, as well as Fr. Mark and the entire parish staff for their support leading up to Jubilee. Finally, I would like to thank YOU for generously giving of your time and resources in a very challenging year!” -Brooke Folkers

Total Collected for Jubilee: $7,275 Any extra funds that did not get used for Jubilee will be

distributed to LUM, Matrix & Caregiver Companion.

THANK YOU, Brooke for your hard work in helping

to organize and make Jubilee special for ALL of those

    involved.

    St. Mugagga, School in Uganda

“I thank God that the parishioners of Blessed Sacrament have donated despite of the challenging economic depression in the world. Thank you very much for the support. Most parents here have been unable to support us due to financial constraints. Most of them ate their capital during the lockdown. We continue request that you pray for our country so that we go through the elections successfully come January 14th 2021. We also pray that we get the vaccine for coronavirus so that all pupils come back when they are free from the disease in January. We wish you and the entire parish a Merry Christmas. We're grateful for the funds and we've cleared all the fees for the students at this time.” -Brother Emmy

Total Sent to St. Mugagga: $4,665 This covers the PPE for $3,800, Daniel’s Exam Fees ($140) and Term 1 (Jan 2021) Tuition and bus fees ($725)

Total Raised from December Envelopes, Faith Direct and Giving Tuesday = $5,204 Remaining Commitment for 2021: $1,300 (Term 2 & 3 for 2021) Thank you to Ginny Mahn for always keeping us updated on our brothers and sisters at St. Mugagga, School in Uganda!

Ministry of the Month New Ministry: Freezer Fillers!

Hello, all! Life has ups and downs. We aim to help people during those downs, such as unexpected job loss, a household death, hospitalization, or even just the physical exhaustion that comes with the joyful gift of pregnancy. We know when people are in need, bringing them dinner can be a big gesture for them. It’s more than just a meal, it’s caring hearts and helping hands from those who made it. Sometimes it’s hard to quickly prepare a fresh warm meal if an emergency need pops up so we are starting a new meal ministry to meet those needs. A small group of people cook together about once per month in the church kitchen. We prepare meals that can be stored in the freezer until they’re needed. Need a meal or know someone who does? Please contact us! Want to help us prepare these meals? Please contact us! Text or email: Melissa Dwyer 765-418-8678 [email protected] Thank you for your interest! “For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me” (Mt 25:35).

    Hispanic Ministry Pausa Ignaciana

No te limites a contemplarlos: saboréalos y disfrútalos. Gózalos, también los pequeños y discretos. Y dale gracias a Dios.”

PASO 4.

    ECHO Update

Dear friends in Christ, Welcome to 2021! We have a whole new year ahead of us, full of hopes and dreams that can only be achieved through the Grace of God! The biggest effort

we can and should do to achieve them is to share those dreams and hopes with God. God is the only one with the abundance to give and fulfill. Our Heavenly Father does not hesitate to provide for us! Therefore, we must share the desires of our hearts with Him through prayer! Prayer is simply a conversation with God and this continual conversation (or prayer) is our relationship with God! Every Christmas season, we emphasize the truth: Emmanuel, God with us! God became man out of love and in doing this God revealed His own desire to us: to be in union with us! May we honor God’s desire by praying throughout the year! Only in prayer can we unite in the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus!

    Faith Formation

This month, we’ve had awesome faith building in our community. We’ve also had some fun while doing it! We learned all about the virtues in Family Based Faith Formation and are striving to grow in our virtues every day. The LifeTeen kids gave thanks for all God has blessed them with (and also bowled with a frozen turkey), explored the meaning of Advent, and grew together in faith. We truly worked as a team, helping decorate the church for Christmas and with Jubilee Christmas! From Mr. Donohue: “What I love about Family Faith Formation is the content. The book is a great resource. It’s easy to do, the activities really only take about 10 minutes, which is great for kids. You can focus on what you think they’ll understand

the best. The videos are also great, they’re different, they’re media. The craft activities are awesome too because I think the kids really enjoy them, and each age can do it differently.” Simon Donohue: “I really liked this (nativity creating) activity a lot.”

Here are some pictures of the awesome nativities:

Evangelization Get to know another family!

The parish is often referred to as the “community of communities” as it should because each home is a small community that gathers in the church [of the Blessed Sacrament] with other family communities. In the Catechism of the Catholic Church, we are told that the “Christian family constitutes a specific revelation and realization of ecclesial communion, and for this reason [it] can and should be called the domestic church. It is a community of faith, hope and charity” (CCC 2204). Therefore, it is important to know who is part of the ecclesial community because we are called to love them. This month, I am going to feature family in hopes that you all can get to know each other a bit more! Richard, Leonardo, and Eduardo (pictured with mom, Veronica) all participate in the Family Based Faith Formation Community meetings that CBS holds each month.

Leonardo (8 yrs old) stated that he liked to “sentarme con mi familia” sit with his family, “for Mass”. He is the second oldest of the three children. The youngest, Eduardo (7yrs old) shared that he liked to do the “tareas (homework) from the activity book” and Richard dove deep with a question many of us might ask ourselves, “throughout history, many people have died violently, why did God let that happen?” This is a question that we talk through at ALPHA (shameless plug), so I suggested he watch the video on this question as it is an important one! Lastly, I asked mom (Veronica) to share more of what her family traditions were for Christmas. She shared a bit of what her family does in Mexico. The family gathers and eats together. They go to the Posadas (re-enactment of Mary and Joseph’s journey to Bethlehem) and pray as a family. Now that you know at the names of this family, remember to say hello when you see them! If your family would like to be interviewed for next month’s Communio, let me know!

ALPHA will begin on Tuesday, Feb. 16th and I am looking for people who would like to be on Team! The registration is on our website, and if you would like to invite someone to experience Alpha, please have them register! Dear Blessed Sacrament Family, Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to all of you!

THANK YOU! I would like to take this time to thank all of those who helped out in con-tinuing to make our Parish a Holy, inviting, welcoming and safe environ-ment to worship God together inside!

“I'm always glad to participate in preparing our parish home to celebrate our Savior's birth, and to do so with my Brother Knights and families. – Mark Gregory (oversaw the setup of the outdoor Nativity Creche)

“It’s a very special time to spend with my family and Brother Knights. I hope my children remember these times in the future and do similar with their future families. I love seeing e veryone working together and how quickly it all comes together.” – Steve Fassnacht (helped tremendously with indoor setup, along with his sons) From all of those who helped with decorating the Parish, to all who have an continue to serve in our Liturgical Ministries for Masses, we could not do any of this without you! I’d also like to thank in a special way Epi Cabrera (our Hispanic Ministry Coordinator) for all his tireless work in helping promote and build the Spanish Mass, as well as for all those he’s trained, and those who continue to invite more people to Mass. This Mass is growing week-to-week, and it’s really something to see! Christmas Décor Teardown The weekend of January 10th concludes our Christmas Season with the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord. As such, we will teardown our Christmas décor immediately following the 11am Mass. If you and/or your family would be able to assist with this, please contact me at [email protected], and I’ll send you some more information as the date gets closer. Members of the Knights of Columbus, Life Teen and family members of our parish helped make the décor setup a fairly quick, enjoyable process, and I’m confident that we’ll be able to make the teardown a similar process! I’m grateful for each and every one of you during this Christmas Season; you’re in my prayers, and I hope I’m in yours! God Bless, Caleb
