Global Academic Coaching: iSucceed! and The Great Orator’s Club

iSucceed! This fun club is for students who want to become a successful CEO of their own life! Students will learn key strategies on how to improve their academic and self-management skills, such as time management, overcoming procrastination, being organized and developing good study habits. Creating a vision board, learning about strengths and weaknesses and setting goals are some of the enjoyable activities students will participate in. At the end of the program, students get to celebrate their success at a ‘Future of Me!’ dress-up party.

The Great Orator’s ClubThis exciting public speaking club gives members an opportunity to develop the leader within by becoming confident communicators. Students will learn how to capture an audience by delivering dynamic and lively speeches, using intonation, correct grammar and poise. At each meeting, roles such as President, MC and timer are some of positions students will be given, further promoting their organizational and critical thinking capabilities. Every week, students will vote for the ‘Best Speaker’ and ‘Best Evaluator’ and winners will be awarded a badge. At the end of the program, all members will receive a certificate of completion.

Book Club

Book Club is a program that will support and encourage kids’ love for reading by giving them an opportunity to connect, on a personal level, with the books they are reading and then share their reactions, thoughts, and opinions with peers in an informal setting. We will vote on the books to read, and all the reading will take place in class. There’s no better way to make sure students are reading for pleasure and reaching their language arts reading goals.

Middle SchoolAfter Class Enrichment Program

Glee Club

Glee Club is an after school program that will provide the opportunity for students to gain confidence in singing and performing Pop and Broadway songs as a group in a safe environment. Students will be taught proper vocal technique, musical expression, group stage movement, and performance technique culminating in a performance at the end of the year for family and friends.

Guitar Ensemble

Beginning Guitar EnsembleBeginning Guitar Ensemble is for students new to the instrument looking to learn the basic techniques of the guitar. In the class we will go over sight reading, traditional guitar techniques, and chord strumming in both solo and ensemble settings. As the class progresses, the focus will shift to ensemble playing as the students will work on performing a variety of songs and pieces.

Advanced Guitar EnsembleIn Advanced Guitar Ensemble students who already have experience with the instrument will explore new techniques and new styles of music related to the guitar. The emphasis of the class will be to expand the students ensemble playing abilities in duo, trio, and large ensemble settings. Classical, Jazz, and Latin music styles will be explored as students learn new chord shapes and gain experience performing more difficult ensemble works.

Classes & Descriptions

“It’s Still Rock and Roll to Me”: Music History

Expand your knowledge of popular recorded music of the 20th and 21st centuries in this course which will feature one-four artists each week which will focus more on musical style and impact than chronological order. Students will listen to and discuss songs, watch performance clips and videos, and learn about the lives of the artists themselves. The first semester began with Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley and concluded with the breakup of the Beatles. The second semester will begin with the advent of Led Zeppelin and conclude with artists of the present day. Students are encouraged to take the course in both semesters, but students are welcome to register for either one or the other. If you are interested in learning more about “hot funk, cool punk, and even...old junk,” this course will show that “it’s still rock and roll.”

Members create and discuss work to express their love for the arts through collaborative installations, friendly competitions, and individual experience.
