This Week At The Redeemer

The Mission of the Church of the Redeemer is to celebrate the love of God in Jesus Christ. As an open and welcoming Episcopal community, we worship, learn and grow together, supporting

each other and our world through the generous and creative use of God’s gifts.

We’re glad you’re here! We’d like to get to know you better. Please sign the guest book on the podium in the Church entrance way or fill out one of the small cards in the pew, and we will be in touch with you. Many of us gathered here today were not raised in The Episcopal Church, but have come to find in this parish a source of spiritual growth. If you would like to consider joining this congregation or come seeking prayer or guidance, please speak to one of the clergy or call the church office at 610-525-2486. Child care is provided on Sunday morn-ings from 8:30 to 11:30 am in the Nursery on the 2nd floor of the Parish House.Restrooms in the church are located through the large wooden door halfway down the left side aisle. Baby changing stations are available in the handicap restroom off the left side aisle and in the hallway restroom behind the high altar.

Children can be guided to participate in worship. It’s a ritual into which they can grow, and it will feed them through their whole life. Your guidance in leading them through the service is key. We also provide a special instructional bulletin intended for children in elementary school. Ask an usher for one. Worship bags are available in the narthex for families with young children. These prepared tote bags are filled with materials meant to enhance a child’s sense of worship and help them process new prayers, scriptures and hymns. Please join us in the Parish House As-sembly Room following the 9am service for refreshments where you can learn more about our parish life and ministries. The best source for information on all our ministries is our website (www.TheRedeemer.org) Facebook page (Re-deemerBrynMawr) and Twitter feed (@TheRedeemerPA).

Today our fourth and fifth graders will begin to explore several miracles performed by Jesus. Over the next four weeks the children will come to understand Jesus’ miracles as more than extraordinary deeds. Through these miracles, Jesus reveals to the world that he is the long-awaited Messiah who has come to usher in the Kingdom of God.

Before breaking from our story-telling for Advent and Christmas, the children heard the story of the Great Family – a family that would come to number as many as the stars in the sky or grains of sand in the desert. Today we will hear more about the father of that great family – Abraham.

The children will celebrate the first Sunday after the Epiphany with an Epiphany procession and a lesson on the Adoration of the Magi (Matthew 2:1-12). They will reflect on how God became man and entered history through the birth of Jesus and how the Wise Men traveled a long way by the light of a star to find the Light of the World, to worship the Baby Jesus and to bring Him gifts.

The Redeemer has many fellowship programs for Middle and High School youth. We believe that both age groups should spend time together and learn what it means to live in Christian community. The Redeemer offers a Confirmation Program. Youth in seventh grade and above typically prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation. Our Confirmation Program began October 1 and culminates in the Sacrament of Confirmation on January 14, 2018. Do Redeemer youth take mission trips? Yes. Plans are being made for a mission trip in the spring of 2018 when they will travel to Florida to work on hurricane relief in areas of the Keys devastated by the storm..
