Welcome Families to Christ Church!

For those of you with very small children (up to age 3) our Nursery is open and available to you in our lower level. Our caring volunteers are ready and willing to watch over your child while you are in service this morning. You can worship with peace of mind as all parents are given a pager so you can be contacted at a moment’s notice should your child need you. An usher is able to help direct you if you need assistance.

All children are welcome to come forward for our Children’s Message. Following the message, children ages 3 through 7th grade are invited to follow our teachers out for Kids’ Church. At the end of service, children up through 4th grade can be picked up in the lower level, while children in 5th-7th grade can be picked up upstairs in our youth room. An usher is able to help direct you to these locations if you need assistance. Thank you for worshiping with us this morning. I look forward to meeting you and your child.

PREPARING FOR WORSHIP

Congregational Singing — Hymn No. 842 “The Lord Is My Light”

Welcome

ASSEMBLE IN GOD’S NAME Call to Worship Leader: The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; Isaiah 9:2; Matthew 4:16 People: those who lived in a land of deep darkness— on them light has shined. ALL: Thanks be to God.

*Hymn in Procession No. 691 “Lord, When I Came into This Life”

Page 3: January 26, 2014.pub (Read-Only)images.acswebnetworks.com/1/2647/January262014.pdf · January 26, 2014 Ten-Thirty O’Clock ... The Library Class is working on the book of James by

*Prayer of Adoration (unison) God, our light and salvation, Jesus announced the nearness of your kingdom and called his disciples to be fishers of women and men. Give us courage to follow in the way of Jesus, that our lives may bear witness to the good news of the kingdom at hand and our vocation serve to draw people to your salvation; through your Son, Jesus Christ, in the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

GIVE PRAISE TO GOD

Call to Confession

Prayer of Confession (unison) Almighty God, I confess that I have not been faithful to you in thought or action. I have been selfish in my desires and quarrelsome in my relationships. I have allowed fear to divide me from those who seem different, and I have let distrust separate me from my brothers and sisters. Shine your light into my dark heart. Save me from my divisive ways. Unite me, heart and soul, to Jesus Christ who swells with you and the Holy Spirit in perfect harmony. Amen. 1 Corinthians 1:10

Kyrie (sung by all) Hymn No. 602 “Holy Lamb of God”

Declaration of Forgiveness Leader: The mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting. I declare to you, in the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven. People: May the God of mercy, who forgives us all our sins, strengthen us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life.

Unison: Amen.

*The Peace

Leader: Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us forgive one another.

The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.

People: And also with you.

(The people may exchange with one another,

by words and gesture, signs of peace and reconciliation.)

During the Passing of the Peace, children are invited

to walk to the front for their message.

Scripture Readings for February 2, 2014

Micah 6:1-8; Psalm 15; 1 Corinthians 1:18-31; Matthew 5:1-12

Consider: How do we live in hope of a reality we cannot yet see or, at best, catch only fleet-

ing glimpses? Where in your community’s life of prayer and service do you see instances of

God’s justice, peace, and healing? Then give thanks, and ask God, Where am I being called to

do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly into all blessedness in the ordinary course of my day?
