Where Is Music Going?By: Dezrae M.

In my perspective of listening to all kinds of music I would say that music is head-ing into an all new era of hot songs and cool new beats. Music speaks to certain people in all different walks of life. Artists like to per-tain to their own group of people also called fandoms. I see music heading into this thing where music is 24/7. You never know, they could use music to teach in 2050. New art-ists are popping up all over the globe show-ing how everyone is similar even though we were all raised differently. Music is used for how people feel. If the artists keep making hit songs I am sure that music is going to sky-rocket. Take One Direction for example. They have millions of people screaming for them to follow them and marry them while the others are crying and dying over them. Or Imagine Dragons, they show emotion in every song they sing and on stage. Take the genre of rap for example. People think that rap songs are inappropriate when they really speak their minds. A lot of people do not appreciate what the lyrics really mean and possess. Every song is different and appreciated in every single way. I hope you take pride in what you listen to because it is okay and helps you to express who and what you are.

(Continued from Page 1) Oh yes. I have lots of scars. I have had kid-ney surgery which left a large scar. I had sur-gery on my wrist and have a scar from that. I also have several from being a tomboy growing up.

What was your favorite vacation? We went to Myrtle Beach last summer as a family. I went with my girls, my parents, my sisters, my nieces and my nephew. It was such a good time. We spent lots of time on the beach.

If you could travel any place you wanted to where would you go? I think I would like to go to Ireland. I think it is beautiful and would love to see it in person.

What is the thing you would like to do the most? When I was younger I wanted to be a child psychologist. I think someday I would like to go back to school and get my degree.

Did you go to college, If so would you change what you majored in?I did not go to college but I would like to go back someday for psychology. By Alexis

Future City By : Anna A. The members of the Future City team this year were: Audra A, Evan W, Summer S, Josh C, Cameron T, Alexis J, Lacie N, Anna A, Isaiah K, Caleb B, and the Coach was Mr. G the 8th grade science teacher. We spent the beginning half of our meetings working on the research essay and designing our system of transportation. We wanted to focus mainly on the transpor-tation because that was the theme for this year’s competition. While we were working on the essay we were also working on a required SIM city. Once we had the essay done we were able to begin building our model. We had lots of fun building everything and putting all the cot-ton balls on the board. It was a huge challenge and we spent several meetings trying to get our train to work. The idea was to make the train levitate by using magnets. We could not get the “train” to levitate, so instead we hung it on fishing line and used magnets to push it along the wire. By this time we were almost done with our entire model. Our presenters: Cameron T, Evan W, and Audra A began to write the script for the presentation and practice. We were adding finishing touches before the competition that weekend. We had to come into school really early and ride for AN HOUR AND A HALF to Columbus State for the competition. We managed to get through three presenta-tions and a three hour award ceremony. We received one 1st place award for best use of ceramics. (Almost none of us understood what that was but we got 1st place in some-thing so we went with it.) So we finished out Future City fairly well and now the team has the last meeting to tear apart the model and eat pizza!

Speaking of History -- the 6th graders enjoyed 1/2 way day! What is this???? See pg. 7

VEX By: Jessica V.

Vex is an after school activity where you build robots out of steel, metal and, aluminum. Once you build your robot you have to program it on either RobotC or EasyC, it isn’t the hardest part, but it is complex. You also have to program the driver control and autonomous(where you program the robot for 15 seconds at the begin-ning of a match to make as many points as you can) with your autonomous you want to get the most points so that you can win. If your alliance wins you are awarded 10 extra points added on to the score that you get. At the beginning of the competition you get a schedule that shows what time you have your matches, who your alliance is, who you are against, and what field you are on. There is also a thing that you do at the competi-tion, it is called skills. During skills you get 60 sec-onds to score as many points as you can. Then people that already made it to state once and makes it agian that means that the person with the highest score in skills gets to make it to skills. Alliances are were the leaders go through and randomly put you into groups, sometimes you are in a group with a team then the next time you will be against them it is just random. The first group in North Union to make it to state was Evan, Joel, Zak, and Cole they are called the Transformers. The second team to make it to state was Adam and Cameron and they are called Check Mate. The third team to make it to state was Garette, Derrick and Bradley. The third team to make it to state is Hailee, Connor, and Jessica their name is Amazeballs. The teams that haven’t made it to state are Joey, Lilly, and Matthew and their team name is Anonymous. Another team that just made it to state is Madison, Sarah, Abby, and Guin their name is Maniac Money Mechanics. Then there is one last team and they are Jenna, Connor, and Nazar. Here are a few vex teammates with their opinion about vex.

Mrs. Matlack- “Vex is a excellent learning tool, problem solving, teamwork, and programming technology which are all important skills in the 21st century.

Hailee Miller-” it’s AMAZEBALLTASTIC!

Madison Hatfield- “Vex is fun, stressful, and is a lot of work. Don’t argue with your teammates if one of them is Guin! Choose EasyC instead of RobotC. Creativity is key.”

Joel Ackerman- “I like vex it is fun because you can build robots and it will make you good at engineering!”

Adam Brown-”Vex is a great thing to join to spend time with your friends after school.”

Joey Blair- “Vex is fun I have been in it for 3 years, it’s stressful.”

Zak Kratowicz- “vex is a very fun way to hang out with friends and build robots. It is a fun way to get into engineering.”

Cole Peterson-”I think it’s awesome.”

Nazar Abbas- “Vex is a good way to learn about robotics even if you don’t want a career in that subject. it also teaches life lessons that you would need in the future.”

Jenna Katka- “It is amazing for a nerd but if you aren't very technical then you won’t be good at it.”

Austin Jamison- “It is very fun!”

6th Grade 1/2 Way Day By: Madison P. As you know, the 6th graders had 1/2 Way Day at the end of January. 1/2 Way Day is to celebrate for the 6th graders passing through half of their formal schoo-ing! They even had the National Honor So-ciety come over to help. They ran sessions about college, High School, career readi-ness, and thoughts about our future. To start the day off they had 1/2 a donut and 1/2 a cup of orange juice. They then spent the afternoon with team building relay rac-es in the gym. This was the kid’s favorite part. Thanks to Mrs. Miller, the 6th grade math teacher for providing the information.

I’m sure most of you have already heard of the name Bethany Mota; The You tube “Sensation” that has now signed with Aeropostale. Pretty much ev- eryone is very happy for Betha ny! She got signed with a huge clothing company just from making videos on a website. But, in most people, the question arose, “How?” How does a 18/19 year old get signed with Areopostale just from sitting in front of a camera? Truth is, this has happened with more people than just Bethany. More and more Youtubers are beginning to get signed with Adsense, a company that puts se-lected ads on your videos for you to make an income off of your videos. Now don’t get me wrong; 99% of Youtubers do Youtube because they love it and their viewers, not just because of money. Bethany has been able to be one of the “Big” Youtubers living off of being herself, and helping others find out what they love to do. So this just goes to show, Youtube is more than just a website. It’s been helping people find out who they are, what they want to do, and has been helping people find an outlet for all of the bad in life. By Miranda R. & Photo from Morgan Y.

1. Laser Keyboard The laser keyboard is one of the newest de-signed keyboards. The keyboard works by a sensi-tive hand motion laser that monitors your move-ments and lets you type. The laser keyboard is a compact and versatile product. It connects easily to any Bluetooth devices, including the latest iPhone, iPad and Android devices. I think that the laser key-board product is a wonderful device. It is easier to type with, and you can take it anywhere you want. It works everywhere, it is very easy to use, and it is very helpful when typing at night time.

2. Smart fork The smark fork is a helpful eating tool that they have recently designed. The fork is a blue-tooth enabled fork. It is helpful because when you are eating too fast or too much it lights up and vi-brates. I think this product will help us in the future by giving us a healthier lifestyle that is easier to track.

3. 3D home printer The 3D home printer is a small printer that you can design pictures on. It prints out automati-cally for you. This printer is a great device because it helps with things such as saving trees and not wasting them on paper. It also can help with not having to go to the store and buy things, you can just print it inside of your home. Save money and have fun!

NUMS WrestlingThe Wrestling Team has completed their season at the COAL Tournament on Sat-urday February 8th. Trace C. and Chris Wilson C. both finished 3rd and Brandon H. finished 4th. As a team Brandon H. recorded the most wins & pins and Kyle W. had the most take downs. Several considered Districts but are not partici-pating. Y2Y Lock-in By: Madison P.

On December 31st and January 1st Y2Y had a lock-in at the Marysville YMCA. When you first arrived you had to check in and make any last minute payments. After you got settled in, they split you into groups. After everything was talked about you were able to just run around and do what you wanted. They had a schedule posted of everything that was going on. There were other schools there as well. There were many different activities such as, swimming, movies, dodge ball, kickball, yoga, racket ball, and basketball. It was also really fun to meet other people. The best thing was nobody judged, no drama was caused, and it was a place where you could just go and hang out with your friends. If you are interested in planning or finding out ahead of time about other activi-ties, join Y2Y. It is after school on Wednes-days until 4:00. Come on people, we need more members!

We are artistic!

We have Spirit! The Boys cheered the girls on during tournamnment play.!
