A Bright Spot in the World: A Tribute to Sonja BowenMany of you may recognize the smiling faces below. Sonja and

Bill Bowen have been part of our Edgewater program for many

years, regularly attending luncheons, trips, and other programs.

We recently lost Sonja, and our hearts are saddened. Sonja lived

a very active and generous life. She spent her time volunteering

with many organizations including Fourth Presbyterian Church,

where she served as support staff. Her passions included caring

for and knitting for those in need, as well as other caregiving roles.

She loved water aerobics, enjoyed with others from her group at

the luncheon. That group included her beloved friend Freda Baron,

who preceded her in death a few years ago at 103.

Sonja brightened the world with her love and inviting personality.

She welcomed all into her life. She beckoned me to see life as

brightly as she did, not by words, but by her actions.

The week before she passed from this world, Sonja called to let

me know she had learned she didn’t have much more time here.

She said she wanted all her friends at the luncheon to know how

much she loved them, and wanted Dave and me to know she loved

us. That call was a gift; it was a tremendous outpouring of love

that matched the love she put out into the world with her life.

I will always miss you, Sonja.

There is an old African

saying, “As I go, I wear you,”

meaning you have forever

changed my life and will

always be with me.

And for that I am

grateful.

With love and

gratitude,

Kathy BavaroThe above programs are presented by Mather LifeWays.
