Eustace High School students continue to take advantage of the opportunity to take dual credit and certification courses that are funded by the district. The program pro- vides for the cost of tuition, textbooks, and certification exams for juniors and seniors. With the state-of-the-art Ag facility, Eustace is fortunate to expand onsite weld- ing certification courses. Thirty students earned welding credit in the Fall semester. At the completion of the required courses, students will be able to earn an industry certification in Welding at Eustace High School. Working closely with TVCC, students have the capability of taking courses at the EHS campus, in Athens, or via the web. Students must meet the college admissions criteria for the course(s) they wish to take. They must also earn at least a grade of ‘C’ in those courses to be eligible to continue participa- tion in the district’s program. For the Fall 2018 semester, 131 EISD students earned college credits for English 1301, English 2322, Government, US History, College Algebra, Calculus I, Biology, Chemistry, Speech, Psychology, Economics, Welding, and Medical Law, Spanish, Music Appreciation, Art Appreciation, Art Histo- ry, Drama and Introduction to Business for a total of 937 college hours completed. A total of 298 courses were completed. We look forward to the continued growth of this program. Middle School News Immunizations   With the beginning of the second semester, it is a good time to encourage the parents of our 6th grade students to go ahead and think about getting immunizations. Students entering the 7th grade have several immunizations they are required to have, such as their 2nd dose of the varicella vaccine (chicken pox), a meningococcal vaccine, and a Tdap vaccine (or adult tetanus). This is a requirement by the state of Texas for all 7th grad-ers. Remember, 7th grade students will not be able to attend school if they have not had these vaccines. Each year, we have had numerous students that we have had to send home the first day of school, because they did not have their immunizations up to date. It is best to go ahead and take care of this early. Fre-quently, those that wait until the last minute have a hard time being able to schedule appointments with doctor’s offices and clinics. Once your child has had the immunizations, please send records to the office so we can update their file.    Stay Informed  Aside from our monthly updates, there are a variety of ways you can keep up with EMS! EMS Band Thursday, December 3, 2018, sixteen 7th and 8th grade stu-dents out of the Middle School Band traveled to Ferris High School to audition for the 2018-2019 All Region Band. They competed against 2A, 3A, and 4A schools from UIL Music Region 3, for spots in the All Region Symphonic Band and All Region Concert Band. While all students played and com-peted well, Eustace Middle School Band had two students who showed distinguished skills and made the cut! Madelynn Seay made the top band, the Symphonic Band, as the 12th place clarinet player in our region. There were 85 clarinet players at the audition. Paige Row made the second band, the Concert Band, in 9th chair placing her as the 21st place clari-net player in our region out of the same 85 players. These ladies did an outstanding job and it is truly an honor for them to be able to participate in this year’s All Region Band Con-cert and Clinic. The concert will be held at Canton High School on January 19th at 3PM and is open for the communi-ty to come, enjoy, and support our music programs.

High School News Early Childhood News This December the Middle School Student Council joined in the Holiday fun with Early Childhood students. The Student Council worked hard helping our students with various Holiday activities such as; decorating ornaments," Texas" ice skating, reading Christmas stories, serving re-freshments and taking holiday pictures. A special thank you goes out to Mrs. Beasley, Mr. Sowers, and Mr. Bever-ly for helping with our holiday activities. Our students en-joyed being showered with love from everyone. Also, Ear-ly Childhood teachers and students would like to say thank you to Mr. Mahaffey and his Robotics/engineering/design class for creating a Kleenex and sanitizing station for us. Kindergarten News We are off to a great start in kindergarten! We enjoyed our time together before the Christmas break with our Christmas book exchange and party with our school fami-ly. It was fun to show our families what we have been working on and the children really enjoyed showing off their work. The kindergarten students were so excited to see the new cafeteria floor when we returned to school. They are also getting back into the swing of things and ready for a full week back. We have spent these past two days discussing what a New Year’s Resolution is, and we are ready to work even harder in the new year! 1st Grade News First grade enjoyed making Christmas decorations and learning about all the different ways to enjoy the Christ-mas season. We spent one day rotating from room to room making different decorations and treats to take home. We made tons of pictures and decorations to take home and help our families decorate. We also had a great time at our Christmas parties where we had lots of parents, siblings, and grandparents come to visit with us. Everyone loved their time off, but we are sure glad to be back at school! 2nd Grade News The third six weeks has been busy for second grade. Mrs. Gunderson’s class visited the high school to see how a 3-D printer works and they returned to the classroom to learn about coding. Second grade also had their annual music program. The children worked very hard and did a great job! Last but not least, all of the second grade did a book study on A Ghost Tale for Christmas Time by Mary Pope Osborne. As a culminating activity, the children went to the Dallas Children’s Theater to see the play.

Scholarships will be awarded to graduating seniors this year. You may mail your contribution to Eustace ISD, PO Box 188, Eustace, TX 75124. Any amount would be greatly appreciated. Substitute Teaching

The start of the new year is a great time to consider a new adventure! If you enjoy working with children of all ages, consider becoming a substitute teacher. The role of the substitute teacher is a challenging one, which brings with it many rewards and the opportunity to assist in the development of Eustace’s greatest asset – its students. Applications for substitute teaching must be completed and returned by each individual applicant to the superintendent’s office. All applicants for substi-tute teaching are required, as a minimum, to be high school graduate or hold a GED and be at least 21 years of age. Once approved, applicants are required by state law to submit to fingerprinting. The district will pro-vide the required paperwork for this process which costs individuals approximately $54. A sub orientation meeting is held the week prior to the school board meeting to familiarize applicants with policies and dai-ly routines when working as a substitute teacher. All substitute applicants are approved by the superinten-dent, and Board of Trustees, which meets on the third Monday of each month. For additional information, please contact the Administration office.
