When I think back to my years of involvement with the Chamber, I remember those that invited me in. I had a friend that recommended I take the Post Falls Chamber RCLA class (2012). Thankfully, I was accepted into the class, and introduced to some amazing people, non-profits and businesses alike! I still have so many relationships that started in that class. Later on, I had a business associate recommend that I consider joining the Chamber board. I applied and was accepted over four years ago.

Since then, I have been honored to serve alongside and learn from some amazing people that continuously give of themselves. The Post Falls Chamber has so much to offer the membership, from RCLA, to monthly membership meetings, CEO series and much more!

Over this next year, it is my hope that we all look around our sphere of influence and invite others to join in, grow and create an even better community. I am honored to have the opportunity to Chair the 2019 Post Falls Chamber board!

A Love Letter to Post FallsI am hoping that this title convinces each of you to read a little further, but it truly conveys my feelings as I end my year as chair of your Post Falls Chamber Board of Directors. It has been an amazing year for our Chamber and community as evidenced not only by our community residential and business growth, but also by the engagement of our citizens and leaders in our Chamber and community events. There is much to love about this past year, but allow me to share a few a few of my favorites:

I love our Chamber staff. I can’t imagine a Chamber with better leadership than that provided by Jame’ and complimented by Deb, Jeannette, and Val. They are truly an amazing team and make our Board work easy. The success and growth of Connect4Lunch, the CEO series, the Super Scholarship Raffle, RCLA, and other programs can be attributed directly to their outstanding work.

I love our Board of Directors. I have served on numerous boards and never looked forward to seeing my colleagues as much as I have on this board. Your Board consists of so many talented, engaged, passionate, and committed members of our community giving of their time and talents to make Post Falls a better place to live and work. I am grateful for their service and their friendship.

I love our Members. I can’t imagine living in a community whose business and community leaders are more authentic and selfless than ours. When we gather together, it is with intent to help, learn, or serve one another. That formula has led to incredible business growth here because it’s based on a common trust in our motives, our leaders, and in each other. In a difficult year for our nation, Post Falls stands apart for its demonstration of civility and love for our community and country.

Thank you for the privilege of serving as your Board Chair this past year. It has truly been a labor

of love…

Metallica is giving $1 million to education and career training.Yes, that’s a “1” with six zeros behind it. The Bay Area based metal band announced Tuesday that its All Within My Hands Foundation (AWMH) is launching a “workforce education initiative” intended to help community colleges to “enhance their career and technical education programs,” according to a news release.

These are programs aimed at helping students who are pursuing “a traditional trade or other applied learning program.” “All of us in the band feel fortunate that music has provided us the opportunity to be successful doing something we are passionate about,” said drummer Lars Ulrich. “We want to share our success with others so that they can find a job where they can do the same.”

The program will award $100,000 grants to 10 colleges across the country, with the goal being to help more than 1,000 students gain training to enter the workforce. “These students will become the first cohort of Metallica Scholars,” the band said in the news release. Foundation executive director Dr. Edward Frank said the new workforce training program would join AWMH’s existing campaigns fighting hunger and supporting emergency community aid. “The goal of our Metallica Scholars Initiative is to improve career opportunities for community college students in the trades,” he said. “Equally, we hope to raise the awareness of the tremendous importance, value and impact of the education provided by our nation’s community college system,” Frank said. “The foundation and the band are thrilled by the quality of proposals we received from these colleges, and are excited to do our part to help educate students so that they have the skills and training necessary to find meaningful and well-paying jobs in their communities.”

The band has partnered with American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) on the project. Association president and CEO Walter G. Bumphus said the program will be a boon to employers as well job-seekers. “These programs are responsive to the needs of local businesses and provide a pipeline of qualified workers to local industry,” he said. “For Metallica to see the benefit of these programs and invest in the communities that have supported them is a testament to the power of education and we are proud to do this work with them.”

The 10 colleges top receive grants are:Central Piedmont Community College, Charlotte, North CarolinaClackamas Community College, Oregon City, OregonCollege of Lake County, Grayslake, IllinoisCommunity College of Baltimore County, Baltimore, MarylandGateway Technical College, Kenosha, WisconsinGrand Rapids Community College, Grand Rapids, MichiganLone Star College, The Woodlands, TexasNorth Idaho College, Coeur d’Alene, IdahoSpokane Community College, Spokane, WashingtonWichita State University Campus of Applied Sciences and Technology, Wichita, Kansas
