Day/Time:
Saturday, Terms 1, 2 & 3, 14:00-17:00
Module Description:
Japanese 5 aims to enable students to progress from upper-intermediate to a lower advanced level of language proficiency. This includes oral conversation skills necessary to sustain relatively complex conversations in social, cultural, and business situations using appropriate speech forms and politeness registers. Students will also aim to begin to acquire academic-level verbal communication skills, including participation in discussions, and preparing and delivering short presentations. It also includes practise writing short essays based on the topics discussed in class, applying their knowledge of between 850-900 kanji characters and demonstrating awareness of appropriate compositional structure.
One of the features of the course is to give learners exposure to some authentic Japanese texts so that they can start reading them with reasonable confidence. Practice involves different styles of reading such as rapid reading and intensive reading of diverse texts. You will develop different reading techniques such as scanning and skimming.
