Join us on Father’s Day
Sunday, June 15
As we meet in our newly
restored sanctuary!
Father’s Day Celebration Service
Make plans to bring your family and come join us on Sunday,
June 15 at 11:00 a.m. for a special Father’s Day worship service
in our newly restored Sanctuary. One of the highlights of the
day will be the uplifting music that the Sanctuary Choir will
present, so don’t miss it!
Senior Adult Salad Luncheon
You will not want to miss this event that’s scheduled for
Thursday, June 19 at 11:30 a.m. You bring your favorite salads
and we will provide the sandwiches. There will be surprises for
everyone, so don’t miss it!
Observance of the Lord’s Supper
The Observance of the Lord’s Supper will take place on
Sunday, June 29 at 11:00 a.m. Our Director of Missions, Dr.
Clovis Sturdivant, will be filling the pulpit for the morning
service. Dr. Jerold McBride will deliver the evening message at
6:00 p.m.
Senior Adult Road Trip #1
We will take a road trip to Natchitoches on Saturday, June 21
to see the musical dinner theater performance of Nunsense. The
trip will cost $25.00 per person which includes your dinner and
show and needs to be paid in advance. We will depart from the
church at 5:00 p.m. and will return at approximately 9:30 p.m.
At this point, the trip will be limited to 14 people.
Southern Revelation Gospel Quartet
The Southern Revelation Gospel Quartet will be in concert at
First Baptist Church on Sunday, July 13 at 11:00 a.m. The
group will bring a fresh touch to the old classic hymns that we
enjoy hearing so much and add some new things to show they
keep up with today’s gospel music. In addition to the classic
sound of quartet harmony, you will enjoy the group’s playful
antics. Most of all, the group will remind us through song that
there is nothing more important than the message of the grace of
God. Mark your calendars for this event and bring a friend!
Senior Adult Road Trip #2
Mark your calendars now for another Senior Adult Road
Trip. We will depart on Thursday, July 24 at 9:00 a.m. and
travel to Natchitoches for a day of shopping and sight-seeing.
We will begin the day shopping in the stores on Front Street, eat
lunch at Lasyone’s Meat Pie Kitchen, then, tour the historic
Oakland Plantation. You will need to bring money for shopping
and your meal. Please make note that this trip will require a
great deal of walking.

Pulpit Supply Schedule June - July 2014
Youth Ministry FAITH COMMANDER: This week the youth will continue our study of some of Jesus’ most loved
parables from a redneck point of view with our five-week Bible study series
called Faith Commander from Louisiana’s favorite backwoods family, the
Robertsons. Each week, one of the Robertson men will introduce our lesson
(via DVD, not in person), which is designed to teach us how to build a
legacy of faith by applying five faith-shaped values to our lives.
This Sunday, Alan & Jep Robertson will help us understand what it takes to
practice “Radical Forgiveness” using Jesus’ parable of the unforgiving
servant (Matt.18:21-35).
STOMP: Just a reminder that we will continue to have STOMP every Wednesday
night during the summer. STOMP begins at 6pm and takes place on the
Third Floor.
HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR TRIP:
This year’s graduating seniors will be taking a trip to the Fort Worth/
Grapevine area for that one last group get-together before they all go their
separate ways in the fall. We’ll be leaving for the great state of Texas on
Monday, June 9, and we will return Friday, June 13. Each person going—
both adult chaperones and students—need to turn in their $350 fee to Colin
as soon as possible.
CRAWFISH BOIL: The youth will have a crawfish boil and swim party on Saturday, June 14, at
the Barnett’s house. We will meet at the Barnett’s at 5pm. The cost is $5
per person. If you need a ride, meet at the church at 4:30pm to ride the
church bus.
FUGE 2014:
FUGE this year will be at Mississippi College on July 6-10. The total cost is
$290 per person, and the full amount is due by the end of this month. If you
worked the youth fair booth in October, I have the amount of money you
earned from that as well. If you would like to go but need financial help,
please see Colin as soon as possible.
CHILDREN’S mINIStRy During our first children’s ministry parent meeting
this year, parents were given a copy of Thom S.
Rainer’s “I Am a Church Member.” I hope you all
have had a chance to read this incredibly valuable
little book. Over the next couple of weeks, I would
like to review the six pledges we were challenged to
take as a church member. If you have not read this
book, I would highly recommend that you get a copy
from Lifeway or the FBC library.
The first pledge: I like the metaphor of membership.
It’s not membership as in a civic organization or a
country club. It’s the kind of membership given to us
in 1 Corinthians 12: “Now you are the body of
Christ, and individual members of it” (1 Cor.12:27).
Because I am a member of the body of Christ, I must
be a functioning member, whether I am an “eye,” an
“ear,” or a “hand.” As a functioning member, I will
give. I will serve. I will minister. I will evangelize. I
will study. I will seek to be a blessing to others. I will
remember that “if one member suffers, all the
members suffer with it: if one member is honored, all
the members rejoice with it” (1 Cor. 12:26).
Each of us have been given different gifts and
qualities that uniquely prepares us to fulfill a role in
the church. My prayer is that as you take this first
pledge that you will seek out opportunities to utilize
your special gifts in the ministry of FBC. There are
many opportunities for you to serve in the upcoming
months and year. We will have Mega Sports Camp in
July that will require volunteers with many different
gifts to offer this evangelistic event to our
community. Chaperones and bus drivers will be
needed for youth and children summer camps. As we
prepare for the upcoming new church year in
September, we will have the opportunity to serve as
Sunday school teachers, class secretaries, committee
members, music ministry members, children’s
program leaders and youth program leaders. I hope
that you will seek to be a functioning church member
in whatever capacity God has equipped you to give,
serve, minister, evangelize, study and be a blessing to
others.
Thanks very much to everyone who
helped clean and set up the sanctuary on
Tuesday morning. We will move back into
the sanctuary very soon, and a sincere Thank
You is extended to everyone who has volun-
teered their time and effort to help us during
this transition period.
