Français V Les Misérables : Final Project

Final Project

Notre version de “Les Misérables”

OBJECTIVE: Show your overall comprehension and create your own adaptation of a

famous French literary piece “Les Misérables”

Setting: For this final project, you may work in groups of three or four, or decide to work

alone.

Task: You will create a play or a puppet show of either an important scene of the book or a

summary of the story.

This will be your end of the year project and also serves as your Final Speaking Exam. The

presentation section of this project will count as the speaking grade of the Hilbert Exam.

Due date: Thursday June 12th

(5 bonus point if submitted by Monday June 9th)

TO BE SUBMITTED ON DUE DATE:

On the due date you MUST submit:

1. a 4-5 page script: typed, double-spaced in 12-pt font size (one per group)

2. a CD with your recorded scene (with all members name written on it)

GUIDELINES:

THE SCRIPT:

To write your script, you will be using Google Docs

If you are working in groups, one person in the group will create the document and

share it with the rest of the group. This will allow you to work on the document at the

same time and from anywhere.

This section of the project will be a group effort grade. This means that you will need to

work TOGETHER sharing the responsibilities and making sure everyone has a “piece of

the action.” You will have 2 class periods to work on your skit together during school

time, but you will also be required to spend time OUTSIDE of the class time provided to

finish writing your script, preparing, and practicing your skit. This means you will need

to coordinate your schedules accordingly in order to meet and practice which will be

very beneficial towards your final production.

Each group will decide if they are going to present a few scenes or a summary of the

story

Each group will prepare a written script, which should be FOUR-FIVE pages, typed,

double-spaced in 12-pt font size. One written copy per group will be given to your

teacher on the day of the presentation.

(You will receive a group grade for this portion of your work)

The script should be personalized, written in your OWN WORDS and in good French with

minimal errors

The script MUST include

a) A list of all characters appearing in the scenes (with all actors’ names)

b) Dialogue (or narrator) lines must begin with character’s names

Modèle: Marius: Grand-père, qui était mon père. Était-il quelqu’un de bien? b) Each actor’s lines must be color coded

c) A minimum of 10 lines per actors

The script MUST demonstrate:

a) Accuracy to the story line

b) Great flow

c) Accurate use of grammar

d) Great spelling

e) Great organization

To ease the creation of this section of the project, follow the steps below:

1. Choose if you are going to present a few scenes or a summary of the story

2. Decide on the characters appearing in your scenes and assign roles (you may add a

narrator if you’d like)

3. Break down your scenes with main titles

(Ex: La rencontre entre Marius et Cosette – Jean Valjean et Monseigneur Myriel)

4. Start writing your script: scene presentation (narrator) and dialogues (actors)

Presentation:

Performance time should be about 10 minutes and must be videotaped.

Speaking parts should be well-balanced. You may add a narrator if you want.

Lines must be MEMORIZED! (NO READING)

Props/Scenery/Costumes as appropriate are recommended.

Once you begin your performance, NO ENGLISH may be used!

Students will be individually graded on the oral presentation

Amusez-vous! & Bonne Chance!
