Analysis JEE (Main) - 2015 had one paper; and had three parts -Physics, Chemistry,

and Mathematics. In each part there are 30 questions carries 4marks each and

for wrongly attempted question minus 1 mark will be awarded. Finally paper

contains 90 questions and maximum marks for the paper is 360. Time

duration is 3 hr.

It is also evident that the difficulty level of the question paper in

JEE (Main) - 2015 has increased a little bit more when compared with

JEE(Main)-2014. But several other state students feel it as difficult when

compared with JEE(Main)-2014.

The question paper setters were given guidelines to frame questions in

such a way that at least 30% of the questions can be attempted by any

candidate with good preparation for the board examination.

In JEE(Main)-2015 as well as in previous JEE exams, the question

paper is divided among the three subjects, Mathematics appears first,

followed by Physics and Chemistry also order had changed according to the

code assigned on it.

Analysis of the number of questions attempted by the students in this

Paper shows that maximum numbers of un-attempted questions are

invariably in physics followed by chemistry and mathematics.

This is due to the paucity in time available to the student. Considering the

fact that quantitative skills are an extremely important component of the

testing process.

In mathematics nearly about 25 questions are direct and simple. Previous

years Jee-Advanced Questions were repeated in JEE-Main-2015.

Among all the papers the extent of difficulty is more in Physics, next is

chemistry and Maths. Questions in Physics are more in graphs oriented with

creates some confusion in the minds of the students. There is one question in

from physical chemistry which has no satisfactory answer. But in physics this

kind of questions are more than five in Number.

In the last five years it is for the very first time that the number of applicantsfor all-India engineering entrance exam JEE Main have dropped in 2015. Thenumber of applicants for JEE Main-2015 decreased by over 50,000 this year. JEEMain is the first round of test for admission to undergraduate engineeringcourses (B.Tech.) Around 13.03 lakh students registered for JEE Main whereasfor last year, the number of applicants for the exam was 13.56 lakh.

Though it is very early to predict but it can be considered as an indication ofsaturation and waning interest in engineering. A large number of engineeringseats remain vacant in the engineering colleges of every state last year.

The last day for registration for JEE (Main) was on December 18th, but thedates were extended up to December 27th and for candidates opting centres inManipur the dates were extended upto January 10th, 2015 as the manipur hadrecently joined the national-level engineering entrance exam.

There is a slight increase in the number of candidates registered for the JEEMain online (computer based) examination. Out of the total 1.86 lakh studentschoose to appear for the JEE Main-2015 online exam whereas in 2014, 1.71 lakhstudents registered for the online examination.

Current format of exam was adopted in the year 2013, before that there

were two exams, IIT-JEE and AIEEE. In 2013 these two exams were

combined and admission to various engineering colleges is done through

JEE Main & JEE Advanced. For the last few years, JEE Main and before

that, the AIEEE, has always recorded a rise in the numbers of aspirants.

In 2013, 12.82 lakh had registered for JEE Main. For IIT-JEE, the

registrations were 3.21 lakh in 2008 whereas 5.07 lakh candidates

registered for IIT-JEE in 2012. After the introduction of two-tier system in

which the top 1.5 lakh students from JEE Main have been shortlisted for

JEE Advanced.

Following graph clearly indicates the number of students registered for theIIT-JEE or JEE Main in last few years.

Though the number of students appearing for JEE Main is slightly decreasedbut the number of students taking admission to different engineeringcolleges in India remains constant. Every year around 12 lakh students takeadmission in different engineering colleges and branches through variousexams. The Number of engineering colleges every year is also increasing ata very rapid rate.
