MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT… Bonnie Householder
By now, you have received the information on voting for the 2019 class of JIAA Board members, Edith
Gross, Kate Hamer, David McCune, Jr., Joan Samuelson, and Roland Thurston. Hopefully you have also
voted on Ballotbin. If not, voting opened at 12:01 a.m., November 26 through November 30, 11:59
p.m. Click on http://www.ballotbin.com/voterReg.php?b=81147 or send an email to: [email protected]
with this number as the subject of your email: 81147 if you have not voted yet. Only one vote per email ad-
dress is allowed. Follow the instructions in the email you have received from [email protected] if
you have problems voting.
The upcoming December 11, Jekyll Island Singers concert will be held in a new venue for the
first time in many years… the Jekyll Island Convention Center at 7:00. This Community Concert is spon-
sored by the Jekyll Island Arts Association, and the space is being provided by the Convention Center.
Please come and join us – Singers is one of the groups supported by JIAA and if you’d like to sing with us,
come to practice at the Jekyll Methodist Church on Mondays at 3:00 the second Monday in January 2019
and sing in the Spring Concert in March!
Hope you have visited the Merry Artists Sale – the opening day was absolutely wonderful and we are
indebted to all the artists who entered items in the Sale! As of this writing, we have only one day under our
belts, but the sales on the first day bodes well for the Sale. Come to Goodyear to do your Christmas shop-
ping at this fun event, which promises to be one of
the highlights of the year.
Thanks to every one of you for making 2018 a
wonderful year – time and space do not allow me to
identify everyone who contributed to our success
this year! It’s been my honor to serve on the JIAA
Board for almost six years, and as your President
for the past three years. I’ve made many friends,
learned a great deal, met new artisans, worked with
the government on hurricane damages, and during
our very successful 50th year anniversary, loved
working on special events such as our retrospective
exhibit, and who could forget the Menaboni exhib-
it… As Immediate Past President, I will remain on
the Board as an ex-officio member, so will still be
around. Thank you for your support, help and
friendship.

JIAA Desk Volunteers Luana Dickey
Thanks to the majority of our desk volunteers who have come into Goodyear for the training on the new
scanning system. It is working well most of the time. A new server has been ordered and we hope when it's
in place that might resolve our glitches.
There are five slots still open during the last week of December, so if you can fill any it would be great.
January is up in the Sign up Genius calendar so please take a look at that.
I retire as head of the desk volunteers in a month. I will be available to help train any new volunteers or
train those in the new system that have not already done so. I will also do my duty a few times a month at
the desk but I will no longer be the "in charge" person. Unless you sign up for all the shifts Goodyear will
not be open everyday.
Wishing all of you a very Merry Christmas!!!

With the New Year comes a new face. Jon Stevenson
has agreed to become the new JIAA Facilities Manag-
er. Jon and his wife Paula have been coming to Jekyll Is-
land as snowbirds for a long time but have recently moved
here full time. Jon now feels he can become more involved
in activities in Jekyll and we are overjoyed to have him on
board as our Facilities Manager.

Technology Report Craig Patterson
The thousands of hours that Mahlon Stacy has put into writing software for JIAA is paying off with the in-
stallation of the new recording and reporting system being used for sales at Goodyear. As with any new system
there are a few minor bugs that have popped up, but quickly fixed, and so far, during our busy Merry Artists
sales extravaganza, all is going well with the system. If you have not been trained by Luana on the new sys-
tem, please let her know so she can arrange a quick training session.
The board has approved the purchase of a new router/WiFi unit to replace the old unit that technically went
end of life a couple of years ago. The new unit should be up and running by the middle of December. The pur-
chase of the new unit was deemed appropriate because, with the new sales recording system, it is more im-
portant than ever to be able to stay in contact with the internet.
The Technology Committee is also happy to announce that we have two new additions to the committee.
Chuck Diefenderfer is joining the committee and will be our liaison to the board. Bev Hopkins who oversees
our website has also agreed to be on the committee which only makes loads of sense since our website is a ma-
jor piece of our technology implementation.
