Course Development

CBHS 6639 Health Behavior/Primary Care Field Work Experience (1 credit) – Developed and

directed course for MPH program in Community and Behavioral Health. The course offers a

field experience in health behavior change in partnership with the Department of Primary Care in

the School of Medicine at University of Colorado Denver.

CBHS 6611 Foundations of Health Behavior (3 credits) – Core course for the MPH program in

Community and Behavioral Health. The course covers theories, concepts, models from a range

of social/behavioral disciplines used in public health research and practice. Applications of

theoretical frameworks in specifying multiple targets and levels of intervention to public health

research are addressed.

CBHS 6621 Maternal and Child Health (expanded from 1-3 credits) – This course is as core

required course for the Maternal and Child Health MPH program. The course is a study of the

nature and scope of the current major health issues facing mothers and children in the U.S., from

the public health perspective. Current legislation and programs about child health care, newborn

screening, children with special needs, and prenatal and perinatal care are discussed. The

national maternal and child health indicators are used to identify the maternal and child health

agenda and to inform evaluation. Selected contemporary issues in child health are also addressed,

such as child obesity and maternal mental health.

PUBH 6842 DrPH Seminar (1 credit) – The DrPH seminar is a required course for all DrPH

students across CBH, EPI, and Environmental Health. Co-developed this course that covers topic

areas across all five public health concentrations while addressing advocacy, communication,

community/cultural orientation, critical analyses, leadership, management and

professionalism/ethics. The seminar includes a combination of guest speakers, directed reading

and discussion, and student presentations.
