I can’t believe another dance year is over! It seems like we just got started, and now it’s recital time again. I guess time truly does fly when you’re having fun. I am blessed to be able to work at a job I love. Where else can you stamp your feet, jump up and down then fly around the room like a butterfly without the world looking at you like you’re crazy? (Well most people don’t look at me like I’m crazy!) My students both challenge and inspire me. They keep me constantly on my toes. They expect my best and I expect their best in return. Dancers never stop learning. We never rest because there is always another dance or challenge waiting.

This has been a fantastic year at JCDA:

• We started a new boys program hoping for at least ten boys to audition. We had 21 boys audition and had to expand our plans for one class into two! The program has been a suc-cess and will continue on next year. It’s gratifying to see dance become an option for so many boys.

• Our dance team soared to new heights. Who hasn’t bumped into our six foot pink trophy by the desk!!

• We expanded back room creating a brand new dance space! Our staff has expanded our dance family. Miss Nicole pre-sented us with Max in January, and just this month Marisol gave birth to our newest member, Vanessa. She will make her studio debut at the recital.

Over my years as director I’ve watched students come in the door as shy 3 and 4 year olds and exit young adults on their way to experience life. Hopefully their time at JCDA will be as memorable for them as it has been for me. I can’t wait to see

who come through our door next!

Graduating Seniors

A note from Marivi:

My time here at JCDA has truly been incredible. I am so very grateful to have been brought into a wonderful community like this. First off, I would like to thank my mom for signing me up for dance lessons way back when. If it weren’t for growing up at JCDA, I would not be the same person I am today. This is the place where my passion for dance came to life, and I have absolutely no idea where I would be without it. I never thought that dance would be able to bring me this much joy in my heart. I would also like to thank all of my dance teachers. Thank you for always inspiring me and for pushing me to become even better. I know that the lessons I have learned here will always stick and will even apply to circumstances within my future. As I go off to college, I will definitely miss competing and practically dancing every day of the week. Most of all, I will miss always being around the family I have made here at JCDA. I can proudly call this place my second home. Thank you, JCDA, for opening up so many opportunities for me. I just know this isn’t goodbye. This is not the end for dance and me. Somehow and somewhere, I will always strive to keep dance in my life.

Congratulations to our 2012 scholarship winners!

A dance scholarship is presented each year to a deserving student or students. The scholarship includes: All regular classes offered at JCDA

within the student’s recommended level. NOT included in the scholarship are costumes, recital tickets, dance team fees, workshops and special classes.

Scholarship Requirements: The student must have a minimum of 5 continuous years at JCDA in Level 1 and above classes. The student must take at least 3 classes per week to earn a scholarship. Scholarship winners should continue to take at least 3 classes per week.

Eligible students are graded and voted upon by the instructors. Scholarship students must maintain the following: attendance, Punctuality, excellent instructor reviews, a positive attitude, a dedication to dance, set a positive example for other students, wearing proper dancewear, have a good work ethic, Help when needed - When extra help is needed at the studio a scholarship student should be counted

upon to pitch in and help.

Scholarships can be taken away at any given time by the director should the student not live up to the expectations set forth.

The Jersey City Dance Academy is seeking both untapped talent and boys with some previous training. Approximately 10-15 exceptional boys who have the natural ability, physical facility, and real desire to dance will be invited to participate.

Location: JCDA 107 W. Side Ave (Between Van Nostrand Ave & Stevens Ave)

Selected Boys Will Receive • Free tuition (valued over $1,000) that includes weekly, all-boys classes

for the JCDA 2012-2013 season.

• Possible invitation to participate in additional, on-going classes; tuition-free.

• An extraordinary course of study primarily focusing on hip hop & ballet basics.

• Study with nationally esteemed artists Nicole Beerman & Christopher Liddell.
