Business-Specific
Question 9:
Survey results show that 64.43% of the total number of respondents know
the existence of the gaming cafe located at Robinsons Place Dumaguete namely,
Circuit City, who caters to video games played using PlayStation 2 and 3. This
means that video gaming with regards to the console industry is not so popular
here in the City of Dumaguete. This low figure implies the lack of awareness of the
population about the presence of Circuit City which may be due to factors such as
lack of promotion and advertising resulting to a lack of popularity. Definitely, a
business will fail if it neglects to stay in touch with its customers and understand
what they need and the feedback they offer.
What are they telling you? Have you been listening? Or is the market
declining? Are they even still interested in what you’re selling? These are all
important questions to ask and answer. Failure to communicate value propositions
in clear, concise and compelling fashion are one of the factors in the decline of a
business and its lack of presence in the market. Press exposure, press releases,
traditional PR, social media, and even print marketing should incorporate strong
online components for a business. Although the Circuit City has no direct
competitors around the area, it doesn’t mean that there is no need for marketing
efforts in order for the business to grow and prosper. There are a lot of indirect
competitors of the business and they might have stolen away its potential market.
It might need to invest enough resources into promoting its product through the
right channels. This is so that the target market knows exactly that the business
can fulfill its needs. Online marketing is a must these days, but businesses should
not ignore the physical reach of traditional marketing methods such as brochures,
flyers and posters.
Question 10:
This question on the survey is where the researchers will base the optimistic
annual market demand for the Gaming Café. Since 40.43% of the respondents
would like to go and play in a gaming cafe that offers video games played through
game consoles, the researchers therefore assumed that 40.43% of the total
population (age 10 to 29) would go and play in the gaming cafe at least once a
year. This low percentage supported by the fact that the console gaming industry
is not so popular around the area imply that this industry still needs a lot of
promotion and advertising activities to create more awareness to the population.
In addition, game consoles rental rate in a gaming café is way more expensive
than playing a game such as DOTA in an internet cafe. When the value isn't there
for the customer, the customer isn't going to spend money, no matter how badly
the company wants them to. Customers don't play games based on whether it's
interesting, whether it's any good, and whether they consider it a fair price for
what they're getting. There are many gamers out there who aren't gravitating
toward digital not because they are "less engaged," but because they see little
value in paying the game. In a struggling economy, console gaming cafe also
have fallen victim to the cut-rate pricing of games – something consumers are
exceedingly demanding but consoles have yet to offer.
Question 11:
Out of the 40.43% of the total number of respondents who would want to go
and play in a gaming café offering video games played using game consoles,
74.20% of them is willing to go and play if the gaming cafe will be located near
Silliman University Medical Center (SUMC). The figure shows that the location is a
good spot for the business since it is the center of schools and universities and
the location itself provides a good spot for transportation.
Question 12:
Of the respondents who are willing to go and play in a console gaming café,
they were asked of the reasons why they would spend time playing such. With the
survey that the researchers have conducted, the reason that grabbed the top spot
is the latest and best games offered by the console gaming cafés. Quality and
high performance came in second. Playing on a big screen came in third. The least
concern for the respondents would be the mouse and keyboard free feature of the
game console.
If you still need the latest and greatest video games—whose numbers are
increasingly limited—your console is safe from direct competition today, so, it’s
safe to say that video games on game consoles are much better than games run
on any other device. The complexity and visual quality of games played with
consoles is hard to match on other platforms, they say, and consoles have
enhanced their appeal by becoming a conduit for other kinds of living-room
entertainment. And they’ll go on thriving as they build on their evolution into
entertainment centers that provide more of what consumers want than any of
their competition, including an array of content beyond games but also a social
element and a complexity of games that no other platform can match. Mobile
gaming also can’t match the complexity of games played on consoles, because
consoles have controls that mobile can’t easily replicate, allowing for a far greater
range of actions. PC gaming typically uses mouse-and-keyboard combinations for
a much different experience than consoles. And games, like movies, are best
when rendered on bigger screens. Mobile games can never equal the quality of
games played on a console, because of fewer controls and screens that are much
smaller than TVs. It’s hard to argue with “bigger is better,” and certainly games
on a big screen are sometimes more interesting. For now, and for a long time to
come, people still need a console for the best entertainment experience.
Question 14:
With respect to the survey we have conducted, the researchers also
considered the reason or factors affecting the respondents not to go and play in
the console gaming café. One of the main reason is that it’s a waste of time as
well as expensive. Also, other respondents concern is that it is addictive at the
same time distracting.
Instead of taking a trip, mountain biking, or hanging out with friends at a
cafe, gamer's spend their time in a virtual reality. Whereas real life experiences
bear long lasting friendships and memories, videos games do not. The only
pictures that come from video games are screenshots, and the memories that are
created from playing those games are ultimately meaningless. Living means
interacting, growing, learning, teaching, and loving — none of which can be
accomplished in the virtual wasteland of video games.
Moreover, playing in a console gaming café is more expensive than playing
your normal PC games in an internet café. Quality and high-end experience added
by the expensive set of software and hardware make up the whole console
gaming experience a lot expensive compared to playing internet cafes wherein
the same rates are charged whether you are surfing the net or just playing games
such as DOTA.
Like what most video games do to us, there is this some kind of addiction
that sticks gamers at the end of their seat playing for a very long time. Addiction
is defined as "The condition of being habitually or compulsively occupied with or
involved in something." Anyone who has really been into video games has
experienced this. Kids and adults alike think about getting into internet cafés and
playing games. They also spend a great deal of time reading gaming magazines,
participating in online gaming forums, looking for future game releases, and of
course, spending countless hours playing games. When they aren't doing any of
these things, they're wishing they were.
Avid gamers are similar to people who smoke a lot of marijuana — in that
they don't get much done. Reading a good book, taking care of bills, writing an
article, inventing something, mowing the lawn, etc., are simply not a priority when
it comes to getting to the next level or finishing a game. Many gamers have
things they would like to do in life, but they never get around to it, because they
spend so much of their time playing games. Then, when they do have time to
work on one of their projects, they're too tired to do it, because they stayed up all
day playing games.
Question 18:
Observably, majority of the respondents would like to go and play in a
console gaming cafe with their friends. This is because we Filipinos would like to
do things with others especially with our friends. This would be very beneficial to
the console gaming cafe since a lot of people will experience the unique features
and services offered by the cafe and would be indirectly promoting it through the
word of mouth.
Most gamers would probably say that playing with a good group of buddies
at night can really help the time pass quicker and can add some enjoyment to a
game.
Video games are all about having fun and there’s no easier way to have fun than
with a group of close friends. It’s the most controversial point on the list, but an
important one: consoles connect people—in person—better than any other
gaming system. Yes, smartphones and PCs bring a greater volume of players
together, and both deserve credit for the impressive gaming networks they’ve
assembled. But when was the last time you physically visited a friends’ house to
play Clash of Clans or Candy Crush? Or lugged your PC to a buddy’s place for
drinks, cigars and a session of DOTA? Only the console consistently brings people
into the same room and real world interaction. If smartphones and PCs are social
networks, the console is the digital equivalent of Monopoly or Risk—a 2015
version of board game night. Console gaming was in many ways a social
endeavor.
Ideal Prices, Services and Facilities
Question 13: (Prices)
Noticeably, the amount that majority of the respondents are willing to pay
to play PlayStation 4 / Xbox One is higher than what they are currently spending
on playing PlayStation 2 and 3 and also with regards to playing computer on an
hourly basis. As seen in the figure and table, out of the 283 respondents who are
willing to play in the console gaming cafe, 178 or majority of the respondents are
willing to spend P30 – P40, which is higher on what they are spending on
computer games and Playstation 2 and 3. This will give the cafe an opportunity to
earn higher profits as well as balancing the needs of its customers and staying
competitive in its industry. Gaming is an expensive hobby whichever way you slice
it. Yes, it's cheaper to play in an internet cafe, but there's also a lot to be said for
an optimized experience.
Question 15 and 16: (Services and Facilities)
Since not all respondents are familiar to playing PlayStation 4 / Xbox One,
the gaming cafe should also offer other services/facilities to cater their needs and
boost their interest not only to the game itself but also towards the gaming cafe
as a whole. With the survey that we have conducted, food/snacks available within
the premises of the console gaming cafe is one of the most highly anticipated
additional services/facilities the respondents are looking for. This is justifiable
since we Filipinos would like to eat especially when we are playing. This will be
answered by the convenience store that will be located in the same building as
the console gaming café. Customers don’t need to go anywhere else looking for
something to eat for they can buy at the convenience store. Also majority of the
respondents would love to go and play games to gaming cafe that has good
ambience, air condition, has proper lighting and CR, and has good personnel.
Other services/facilities that interest the respondents are free Wi-Fi services as
well as relaxation spots. This would not only cater to the needs of the gamers, but
also those parents for their children and also other customers waiting for their
turn.
Since 67% of the total respondents say that by having these additional
services/facilities would encourage them to go to a gaming cafe, this additional
features that the console gaming cafe would have will serve as its competitive
edge towards its direct and indirect competitors. This would also increase its
market demand at the same time satisfying the expectations of its customers.
The list of things you can offer your customers is pretty much endless and
the more you offer, the longer they will stick around. Availability of food or snacks
near the area will keep customers in the café longer. Without having to go out to a
far place to buy food and drinks, some customers will easily spend the entire day
there. The café will need to take certain precautions though to ensure that food or
drink is not spilled on the machines.
