This project focuses on the creation of dynamic spaces both indoors and outdoors. The idea was to design a public market space to be located on the western end of Milwaukee’s Brady Street. As part of the program requirements, designs had to include space for indoor and outdoor market stalls, special events, indoor and outdoor dining, a small cafe, temporary art displays, and a small outdoor performance area.

The goal of this project was to design a freshman residence hall for the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. The residence hall is meant to house 230 students including resident assistants. In addition to the residential program, designs had to include a courtyard accessible by the entire campus with a gateway into the adjacent Downer Woods. Designs also needed to include cafe, study, and lecture hall space.

This project challenges the students to work in teams to create detailed construction documents for one structural bay of a selected design from earlier in the semester. In addition to creating construction documents, students were required to put together a proposal for a mock-up panel. Teams’ proposals were then voted on by professionals, with the top three mock-up panels being constructed.

This project challenges the student to begin considering the landscape in his or her designs. The goal was to create a small outdoor amphitheatre in Kern Park in Riverwest. Design considerations included accesibility while maintaining the existing landscape, year-round use possibilities, sun-shading and wind-blocking during performances, and the amphitheatre’s relation to its site context.
