This fall sale season is upon us and full of excitement and optimism. With cattle prices soaring and producers being rewarded for their persistence and patience, the buzz in the beef industry is electrifying and long overdue. November 14 in Ponoka will present an opportunity to add a few “Jewels and Diamonds” to your program and help better position yourself for these bountiful times in the cattle business. These Simmental females are backed by reputable programs that offer some of the newest genetics within the breed, as well as some of the older hard to find treasures. We are pleased to be part of the inaugural Jewels and Diamond Sale offering the industry the first heifers to leave our herd and come to town in thirty years. Our cattle are fed to work, not walk the show ring with Destiny being pulled off grass September 30. Her characteristics are expressions of genetics rather than the feed pail. This polled fifth generation FF heifer exemplifies our program with a balance of femininity and muscle, quiet demeanor, tidy udder and predictable pedigree. Destiny’s dam, at the age of 9, is one of the herd queens sporting a long line of greats in her pedigree including Klyber, Bar None Mainstream and Monet. She consistently throws 80-85 lb. heifers who all go back into the herd raising top quality calves. Expect a dark red, heavily pigmented and double polled calf from the Beech Bros Xander son, Grinalta’s Unique DPFF81Z. Grindell Farms is very excited and pleased to be a part of the first ever ‘Jewels and Diamonds’ sale. “You always go to town with your best,” so we dug deep into our keeper pen to bring you Lady Elite 8A and Lady Elite 97A, the first Elite 79U (“Black Obama”) heifers to walk into a sale ring. “Jewels” (8A) is a double polled red from black parents and “Diamonds” (97A) is single polled from a red dam with polled linage. Both are thick, soggy, easy doing, feminine reds with lots of rib and rear. Younger in age (20 months at sale date), and only off pasture September 30; I am relying on their natural fleshiness to best represent Grindell. Black Obama is an exceptional bull in stature and consistency siring thick, easy fleshing deep volume “Fleckvieh-style” red/black cattle. His EPD’s are exceptional, being in the top 10% for CE and WW. Top 15% for YW. His EPD chart is very impressively “green bar’d” and comparably one of the best in the industry. He has stamped his trademark on both these heifers. Maternally strong, both these heifers date back to my foundational matron 8K who has left me many outstanding daughters and was still producing at 14. I was excited to track down the remaining semen from ABS’s popular heifer calver from the 90’s. We had used him with great success and just loved his daughters. He carries a little Fleckvieh influence of Siegfried in his linage. Not intending on selling these heifers and breeding them with my herds’ future in mind—Excitingly, I was looking forward to producing thick, deep bodied, red, polled ‘Pas’ daughters from these top end heifers but now as I revise the popular David Ball song, “Private Malone:” “These heifers were once a dream of mine, now they will belong to you”!!

Cow Families

Rajine and Rosslyn - Both of these heifers are from the successful Wyvern C&B Regina cow family. The family strengths are passed on generation after generation. Some of the notable stars in this line are Wyvern Vanguard, a 5 Star Trait Leader sire in the 1980’s; more recently, Wyvern Magnificent, recognized worldwide for the quality of his progeny and the success which Barclay Smith had with Wyvern Rheola; BLI Warlord and others. Quality and predictability is built in with these two ladies. Wyvern Benzweiser, the sire, is now proving his worth, both at home and in his new herd at Lone Stone Simmental with Lonnie and Karen Brown. An easy calving sire whose progeny grow and perform. Top 10% for calving ease, top 1% for MWWT and top 1 % for Milk. Fullbloods.

Sophie and Sanval- The cow family for these two open heifers is the Sirene line of a direct German import brought in by B.E.L. Simmentals. Sophia is the daughter of Wyvern Benzweiser and Sanval is a maternal granddaughter. All four of these heifers give the buyer a good overview of the type of cattle that they can expect to produce though these bloodlines.

TermsThe terms of the sale are cash or cheque, payable at par at the sale location. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement has been made; no invoicing on buyers in attendance unless previous arrangements have been made. Every animal sells to the highest bidder and in cases of disputes, the auctioneer’s decision will be final. Certificate of Registration Each animal will carry papers issued by the Canadian Simmental Association. A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer for each animal after payment has been made.

HealthAll animals in the sale have met all necessary health requirements.

GuaranteeEach animal becomes the purchaser’s risk immediately after the animal is sold. All animals in this sale will be sold under the terms and guarantees set forth by the Canadian Simmental Association with regards to health, freedom from defects and from both reproductive and specific genetic unsoundness.

Pregnancy Information All serviceable age females have been pregnancy examined by an accredited veterinarian, giving an estimated length of gestation. This estimated gestation period shall be used only as a guideline to calving and is not a guarantee of actual service.
