Because Jesus was a Jew
The Temple
• Was the most important building in the whole of Palestine
• Twice daily burnt sacrifices were offered to the Lord (usually doves and pigeons) by the Priests
• Once a year (At Passover) every Jew would make a pilgrimage to the Temple to sacrifice their Lamb
What did the Priests do?
• Many priests lived outside Jerusalem and only traveled their when on duty in the Temple
• The High Priest was the most important priest, once a year he would enter the Holy of Holies
Holy of Holies
Home of the “Arc of the Covenant”which was a sacred container said to hold King David’s Scepter, a sample of the Manna from the desert and the tablets the ten commandments were written on
(Jesus became the new “Arc of the Covenant” because he was the King of the Jews, the Bread
of Heaven and the giver of the Law)
