The baseball playoffs are beginning with the World Series later this month, the football season is well underway, and hockey and basketball is right around the corner. With the end of summer, the pool is now officially closed for the 2010 season. The Board appreciates everyone who worked to keep the pool operational throughout the summer season. The pool committee, which consisted of Cory and Renee Stine, Eric and Diane Zeitzheim, and Martha and Duane Snyder, once again did a wonderful job. The committee is considering new ideas for the 2011 season as well as accepting comments from the membership. Thank you also to the lifeguards and pool staff, and to Eric the Caretaker, for keeping the pool in compliance with the Health Department rules and regulations. It was not unusual for Eric to be at the pool in the early morning hours making sure that it was ready for that days use. A problem that the committee encounters every year is the early school start, which results with the pool being open on weekends only. If a member is a licensed lifeguard and wishes to offer his/her services, please contact a committee member so that they can plan accordingly for the 2011 season. Please inform Eric as you begin the process of removing your boat(s) from the marina. Do not forget to remove your personal items and make sure your dock box is secured. Also, report any repairs/improvements that may be needed prior to next season to Eric or Dockage Chairperson Phil Bolte. One of the projects to be completed this month is the installation of the ten (10) docksiders/pedastals around the north end of the marina. Once again, several members have offered to assist Eric. Another marina project that is slated to be completed this fall is the dredg- ing of the entrance. The “hump” has reappeared and the Board would like to complete the work before the winter weather sets in. Thanks to PC Young for his assistance on this project. A project that is being considered for next year is improvements to the parking lot. Items under consideration include the replacement of storm and sanitary sewer lines, road base improvement, repavement and/or sealing. The Fall Work Party is scheduled for the 24th of October. We begin around 8:00 A.M. and finish by noon. A free lunch follows. Please mark it on your calendars and come enjoy the fun! Also this month, the Snow Flurries Regatta is scheduled October 2nd and 3rd, which completes the 2010 racing season. Additional events scheduled this month are the Clambake on the 16th, the Halloween Bar Party on the 29th, and the Children’s Halloween Party on the 30th. So come on down and enjoy the fun, but please drive carefully. Todd Bickley SAIL FLEET NEWS 50th Green Island Regatta . . . We had a blustery Green Islands race. I’d like to thank Dave and Cindy Obergefell for acting as “Fleet Captain” for the Sandusky Cruise out. Although rain, much needed at the time, put a damper on things Saturday evening, a good time was had by all. Our small boat/inflatable poker run on August 5th was a huge success. Many thanks go to several people for this outstanding day, as over 95 people joined in on the fun. Our first stop of the day was to the home of Dave and Cindy Bringman. Kudos to all the ladies for all the fix’ns and to Chef Todd Bickley. After Lagoon Saloon, we enjoyed the hospitality of Don and Becky Clemons across the river at Lakeland Motel. Dealer Mike Nitz and recorder Jack Nitz made sure that Royal Flushes were not the norm. The winners of the best hand go to Dave and Kathy Mehl who held onto 3 Kings. The Power Fleet did raise $200 ($70 of which was graciously given by the Mehl’s family or half the pot) to be donated to Ruth Anne’s House here in Port Clinton. What a day. We are all looking forward to next year’s version. With September gone, so are all of our annual Cruise outs.
