We were able to squeeze
out a couple of extra
weeks of mid week pool
exercise due to some
pleasant September
weather I enjoyed com-
ing over to watch theexperienced members
swim the last two weeks
during my lunch break
Thanks to PC John Bolte
pool staff and others for
keeping the pool clean
this summer It is always
a sad day when we close
down the pool for the
season
Sailors enjoyed fair
winds for the Green Is-land Race this year The
new starting line close to
the shore allowed for
many spectators on shore
to watch a beautiful spin-
naker start
PRO (Principal Race Of-
ficer) Doug Young and
crew once again ran an
outstanding event The
last sail race of the season
is the upcoming Snow
Flurries Members comeover to enjoy the sailing
excitement and club ac-
tivities There will be
dancing
Todd Finke and crew
once again did an out-
standing job on the sum-
mer season ending Labor
Day Fish Fry I ate too
much When I was
younger I always remem-
bered that day We would
play on the play ground
until exhausted drinkCoke out of the 8oz glass
bottles and then play
pick up with the bottles
while lying on the sides
of the Merry Go Round
There was room for six at
a time to lie down and
two would stand and spin
us as fast as they could
You dragged your hand
in the sand under the
Merry Go Round trying
to pick up the bottle with-
out falling off from the
centrifugal force You
would hear ldquodropped itrdquo
and soon another would
yell ldquogot itrdquo Then it was
time for perch dinner and
chocolate milk in the
little waxed paper con-
tainers Oh it was disap-
pointing if they ran out
before we got to dinner
Next our parents would
have to drag us home to
get us ready for the firstday of school on Tues-
day
In October there is some-
thing going on every
weekend and the club is a
great place to watch Col-
lege and Professional
football The highlight of
the month is the Fall
Work Party on October
19th where all members
are invited to help clean
and prepare the club for
the winter Remember tosubmit your nomination
for the Oliver True Me-
morial Trophy for Out-
standing Service to be
awarded at the Recogni-
tion Dinner in January
We had our first big
southern blow which ex-
tended the Boaters Cruise
Out to Put-In-Bay They
say it was too rough to
come back but I am find-ing that a little hard to
believe We did have low
water in the lagoon and
the boats with short stern
lines were suspended by
their lines I do not think
we had any damage be-
cause the water levels
quickly returned to nor-
mal levels Boaters
backed in make sure you
still have working props
and rudders before tryingto leave your docks

With October being the transi-
tion month for our boater andsnow bird members we stillhave a lot of activities to enjoy
at our club Please come andenjoy FNS OSU parties Dinnerat the Club and Halloween
Events
Winterizing of the pool has al-
ready begun Thanks to ourCommodore Mike and his wifeCathy for all their efforts to keep
the pool open for several weeks
allowing our exercise group touse the pool in SeptemberThere is a rumor that Cathy isgoing to move to a warmer cli-
mate someday to take up herlong time desire to become a big
time lifeguard
Our pool is a very popular com- ponent of our club With the age
or the facility we have startedthe process of evaluating the
pool for future repair needs or
replacement John Bolte andDave O have been meeting with
the professionals in the pool in-dustry to help us with our deci-
sion for what and if anythingneeds to be done It is a greatthing to have members with such
talents as these two guys
We have had many requestsfrom our members for improve-
ments to the club Two of theseitems have been approved by the
board and are now completed New china and silverware hasarrived and will be available for
use once it is washed and all theold has been removed Cindy
and Dave O have done a great job of bringing this to the table(no pun intended) as they have
been our crew that spearheaded
this along with other future im-
provements in the kitchen Also by great demand we have in-stalled a new Wi-Fi system in
our club house and groundsYou will be seeing a notice re-garding passwords and use ofthis in the near future Againwith the talents of one of our
members Chris Mallory wehave completed this project eco-
nomically
Our board has approved a winter
boat storage policy and rules fora one year trial Thanks toDenny Bergman and ChuckReichman for bringing this idea
to the club Again we found agreat idea to benefit our mem-

We had a great Green Island Race
The weather was perfect We had anew start sequence in which all the Phrf
boats started together The line waslengthened and we had 28 Spinnaker
boats starting at once Not all the boatsliked the mass start but for me I found
it exciting and challenging
My racing result was not stellar Whenasked how we ldquoTeam Coquirdquo placed orraced it put me in a continually worsemood Finally someone asked me how
we sailedhelliphellipwell it is amazing how aquestion can change your disposition Iinstantly perked up and said ldquoWe sailedreally wellrdquo The boat was under con-
trol and our maneuvers were good Butmost importantly I was sailing with my
Dad daughter and good friends
