JIM BANNON’S JOURNAL DECEMBER 14 TH , 2018 RACE #1 BANNON 5 ALMOST PERFECT 6 EBORACUM 4 HESATHRILLER 2 STOPVICTIMIZINGME BENS LAST CALL dropped in for $40,000 and committed to a speed style last time and finished fifteen lengths behind; he stretches out. STOPVICTIMIZINGME was clever to win his opener December 2 nd as he engaged in some hard bumping in mid stretch while moving into the lead and an inquiry followed but he was untouched by the Stewards; he is up in value after that win in slow time. CRUMLIN EXPRESS was forced to scratch November 28 th and will get back in the game here for $40,000; she used a speed style in her opening two races persisting in her debut then finishing just on the edges at this price second time out; she must run farther and now faces the boys. HESATHRILLER did well at five furlongs to earn a good performance rating; most recently, he impacted the pace in the Cup & Saucer with high early exertion but he was beaten uncountable lengths; that was a key race from which the winner came back to score in the Coronation and the runner up came back to take the Princess Elizabeth and the seventh place finisher came back to beat, Bens Last Call; he is hoping the drop in value works; he travels seven furlongs here. ALMOST PERFECT had a winning opener which looked enticing over a short distance and he attracted a claim; in his second start he was driving on the pace but stalled against a key winner at a route; most recently at six furlongs in a quickly run race, he wasn’t able to threaten and was bothered at the top of the stretch by the fifth place finisher; he drops in for $40,000. EBORACU moved late on the rail to win in his third start which came at this exact distance; Hernandez remains aboard with the jump for $40,000. RACE #2 BANNON 3 NORTHERN FERN 6 WHISPERING SPEAKER 8 ABBY GRACE 2 ALKELINE MONSOON RAIN has been acting like she will handle a route race given her closing tendencies in recent long sprint events; she was a winner for $9,500 two starts ago and second against a key winner last time when she looped from the outside; she faces many established route runners. ALKELINE is coming off a nice win for $20,000 against non winners of two where she showed a perfect stride on turf to be best under Kimura who opts for, Abby Grace, in this spot and Moran will take over. NORTHERN FERN dropped in for $10,000 and was narrowly beaten two starts ago in an upset; she scaled all the way up to the $40,000 mark last time and ran strongly in contention in third and now she settles in for $19,000 with Wilson. LADY BELLA had the best coincidence November 17 th when she was using her front running style on a surface very helpful to speed runners and she went all the way as the 6-5 favourite for $10,000 to get her fourth speed win of the campaign; she is a three year old and allowed into this event for non winners of three while doubling in price. CINDERVELLA has settled in at this level with a narrow loss two starts ago and a positive third place finish last time against a key group at seven furlongs; she has been long in the past and stretches out here. WHISPERING SPEAKER has tried so much better for most of the year and did win a race earlier; her form slumped November 28 th when the two favourites dominated and, Northern Fern, was third; she looks to get back to her best after that one race letdown. BEL TEMPO has now won two in a row with off the pace rushes and was especially good last time when five lengths the best as the favourite; she faces a tougher challenge with the move up in value. ABBY GRACE is getting her first start since September when she won on turf to defeat non winners of two and both of her lifetime victories have come on the grass; she gets her first race following a layoff and moves to Tapeta with Kimura. RACE #3 BANNON 3 DUBLIN DIVA 5 COBRA SOPHIE 9 ANOTHER GIRL 6 ROXHAM GINGER CANDY was held off the early pace at seven furlongs last time for $6,000 then was hard ridden on the turn trying to catch up but was only fifth when, Roxham, was second. FUNNY FUNNY RIDDLE campaigned at five furlongs last time and had plenty of late motion suggesting an even longer distance would help and she gets an extra two furlongs here. DUBLIN DIVA is an obvious favourite in here; she stretched to seven furlongs and won with a drop last time overcoming the elements while drifting out at the end when, Cobra Sophie, was closing up; she meets that difficult runner up here. LONDIE LOU was trying to run off the pace when speed was carrying November 17 th and finished sixth beaten about four lengths; she shortens to seven furlongs. COBRA SOPHIE is a contender here; she made her run through the stretch when, Dublin Diva, was already in control of the race; her rival drifted out but she continued on well to be second and will try an exploit her rival’s flaw today. ROXHAM had a vigorous inside close on the best footing November 28 th for $6,250 to finish second; she attracted a claim by Robert Neumann. LOUISE THE LASER has done well at very short distances but looked like she needed a little more room last time as she closed from seventh to be second; she will move out of her comfort zone to seven furlongs here. HASSAH competed last weekend at a route and raced on the pace which was difficult to do and she finally finished a close third; she shortens back to seven furlongs. ANOTHER GIRL attracted a claim for $7,500 when trying to repeat November 10 th but that was a letdown performance; she had an ok race last time when fourth against the favoured winner, Dublin Diva, and the runner up, Cobra Sophie.

RACE #1 BANNON 5 ALMOST PERFECT 6 EBORACUM 4 HESATHRILLER 2 STOPVICTIMIZINGME BENS LAST CALL dropped in for $40,000 and committed to a speed style last time and finished fifteen lengths behind; he stretches out. STOPVICTIMIZINGME was clever to win his opener December 2nd as he engaged in some hard bumping in mid stretch while moving into the lead and an inquiry followed but he was untouched by the Stewards; he is up in value after that win in slow time. CRUMLIN EXPRESS was forced to scratch November 28th and will get back in the game here for $40,000; she used a speed style in her opening two races persisting in her debut then finishing just on the edges at this price second time out; she must run farther and now faces the boys.

LADY BELLA had the best coincidence November 17th when she was using her front running style on a surface very helpful to speed runners and she went all the way as the 6-5 favourite for $10,000 to get her fourth speed win of the campaign; she is a three year old and allowed into this event for non winners of three while doubling in price. JIM BANNON’S JOURNAL DECEMBER 14TH, 2018

RACE #4 BANNON 8 AUNTIE KATHERINE 10 BILKY BLUZ 5 MEET YOU AT HOME 1 COURT CENTRAL COURT CENTRAL dropped in for $6,250 last time from a wide post and lost ground on the first turn; she moved prematurely to the lead and then was run down at the end by, Meet You At Home, who has also been entered. BEL AYR BAY was in front by a clear margin but started to drift through the stretch last time and lost out late in second for $6,000 at a sprint; she stretches around two turns here. ZDENKA is without momentum and was out of the money when coming off the shelf November 23rd at a route. HEY HEY RUN AWAY has been committed to sprints since arriving here with four consecutive out of the money finishes but Hernandez gives this one a vote of confidence by taking over for Blair Miller with the stretch out. MEET YOU AT HOME is a three year old who took her third lifetime win last time; she enters here for non winners of three and faces the same rival she beat last time, Court Central. ABOGADA had some stretch problems last time when she rode up into a difficult spot and then was bothered; the third place finisher has since won. SHEZTENTHEHARDWAY lasted for third in her most recent try at a route at this price when, Meet You At Home, was the winner and, Court Central, was second. AUNTIE KATHERINE is one to consider; she has now won two in a row for the hot stable of Kevin Attard; she dropped for $10,000 last time to double up and kept responding from her stalking position; she now goes down for $6,250 looking to make it three in a row with Kimura once again aboard. OCULIST won at six furlongs two starts ago but was out of the money with a wide approach last time; she now goes two turns. BILKY BLUZ is an obvious one to consider but victories have been elusive and she is without a score in recent times; she was fourth for $9,500 last time against a key winner at seven furlongs and now uses the sprint to route angle and is accomplished around two turns. SOPHIAS DREAM is without momentum after consecutive wide losses since coming out of the Fort Erie meeting. TORNADO CAT doesn’t seem to have much momentum now; she cut back to a sprint last time; when she used the route to sprint angle earlier in the year she was a winner but couldn’t keep up last time SCARLET BOW has been around the payoff lately and took a victory three starts ago; most recently for $10,000, she ran well to be fourth when, Bilky Bluz, was the runner up and that rival can be a good reference; she rates a look.

RACE #5 BANNON 10 LOVE DADDY 7 MOONSTONE 1 MUSKOKA SUZIE 5 BLUE EYED GIRL MUSKOKA SUZIE broke slowly last time and then closed belatedly against Ontario sire company; she makes several changes today, dropping in value, adding blinkers and lasix and extending to seven furlongs for Mark Casse.

MYSTERY DAY had so much to do at the top of the stretch when running eighth along the rail and was finally fourth; she extends in distance and is up in value. CHEEKYLICIOUS debuted November 28th for $32,000 at six furlongs and the winner rallied at the end to displace her and she was second best; she has had an interim work getting ready to extend to seven furlongs. PRINCESS LILA encountered a hot pace last time and contributed to the fast early fractions but then couldn’t keep up after that. BLUE EYED GIRL drops in for $32,000 here after consecutive out of the money finishes; there was promise in her opener against a key winner who was recently the pace maker in the Lassie Stakes before faltering; Moreno remains aboard for Barbara Minshall. LINDATALKS debuted December 1st and broke to the inside and crunched the eighth place finisher and then couldn’t keep up after that in a route; she shortens to seven furlongs. MOONSTONE has had the same approach in every race of going up on the pace but she has weakened relative to her early positioning; she makes changes here by dropping for $32,000 and shortening to seven furlongs which gives her a chance to run from off the pace. VICTORIA GARDENS competed in an opener where the late pace faltered but she did not stay the trip in contention at a route and makes an understandable distance switch to seven furlongs. IRISH YOU LUCK had a lot to do from far on the outside last time when going first time off the claim for $32,000; she finally advanced and was fifth beaten two lengths with, Cheekylicious, in second and, Forest Fairy, in third. LOVE DADDY was called to win December 1st and for $25,000 at six furlongs she closed strongly but was simply second best; like so many of these Sid Attard entrants they have won next time out; blinkers are added and more distance is available here. EXPRESS BANKING checked in the stretch when a rival bothered her last time and she was finally sixth beaten three and a half lengths for $32,000 at six furlongs; she goes farther. FOREST FAIRY was on the pace with, Cheekylicious, last time and both were taken down by a closer and she settled for third; she now goes farther. POTTAHAWK dropped in for $20,000 to go a route last time but that event was dominated by the winner and the runner up while she was only fifth. AWESOME DRILL was in against a winner who stormed away from the field last time and she was only close from the inside; she goes much farther.

RACE #6 BANNON 1 UNCLE HOWARD 5 HEDEMAN 11 LITTLEROUGHJUSTICE 12 RIVERRUN

UNCLE HOWARD a debut runner is a homebred for Robert Harvey by, Uncle Mo, and from a dam who was an eight time sprinter and she did score as a two year old; he has worked from the gate in consecutive morning moves on the training track getting ready. LASER LIGHT has made the lead in his last two events at longer distance than this only to fade; he comes down to a new low level at a shorter distance. QUENCH MY THIRST had a significant rally October 5th but couldn’t duplicate that performance November 18th. MR. FRESH was forced to scratch November 9th and debuted November 25th; he was ridden up from behind but couldn’t reach contention.

Page 3: JIM BANNON’S JOURNAL DECEMBER 14TH, 2018 › wp-content › uploads › pdfs › free...2018/12/14  · JIM BANNON’S JOURNAL DECEMBER 14TH, 2018 RACE #1 BANNON 5 ALMOST PERFECT

JIM BANNON’S JOURNAL DECEMBER 14TH, 2018

HEDEMAN was in for $25,000 at six furlongs last time and moved up in the stretch to be in contention in deep stretch but was out rallied at that point; he drops back to the level of his previous race. BIG MAMBA had all kinds of momentum earlier with big speed but last time couldn’t carry her front end ambition as the favourite against a dominant speed winner; blinkers are on for this big drop for $20,000 and speed is likely. DOT’S LAST CALL was forced to scratch November 10th; he came off the shelf December 2nd and running from behind on the outside was difficult to do but he finished sixth, yet, he galloped out well. ROMAN NOMEN was in for $25,000 last time and was reserved back early then lacked some room and couldn’t improve his position in the stretch. A RATED BREEZE was tenth without threatening last time for $25,000 when he came from the inside post at a longer distance. STAR CONQUEROR was an auction buy and is a son of, Sky Conqueror, a turf ace; he goes six furlongs here and has had some recent gate trials getting ready; Salles rides. LITTLEROUGHJUSTICE is one of two for Nick Gonzalez in the race and this one was an auction purchase by, Kentucky Bear; he worked from the gate at a half mile recently getting ready for a stable that has had some recent success with the young runners; Bahen gets the call. RIVERRUN a debut runner for Ian Howard was an auction purchase and is by the undefeated, Singing Saint; he has prepared for this with a series of works through November and December and with a recent gate trial; Wilson gets the call; he rates a loof. MEANT TO TELL YOU debuted November 9th and didn’t threaten for $32,000 but did come back to work from the gate in preparation for this event.

RACE #7 BANNON 5 DIFFERENTIAL 8 FLYING GHOST 2 GOLDEN BULLET 6 INGE BOURBON EXTENSION stalled last time for $20,000 after winning the time before to defeat non winners of two; he comes right back at a route against non winners of three. GOLDEN BULLET took the big drop off the shelf November 9th to ensure a maiden victory and took that initial score with a late advance that was perfectly timed; he attracted a claim by Norm McKnight and now faces non winners of three looking for his second career win; he indicates November and December works getting ready. HEY HOWIE was outside trying to advance last time and moved from seventh to be fifth beaten only three lengths against a key winner in a sprint and now he goes long. BOYHOOD DREAM had his big frame in motion through the stretch December 7th at too short a distance; he landed third and now he gets to stretch out which should be an assist; Fukumoto takes over while Hernandez ends up on, Inge. DIFFERENTIAL attracted a claim for $20,000 two starts ago by Kevin Attard and was competitive last time for twice this price; he had speed preferences in that race but the runner up, Blakey, was a companion for him all the way around and both were beaten by a smart closer; he finally landed a close fourth and now gets back down to his claimed price.

INGE started the year here by being awarded a stakes victory for three year olds; he then faltered in the Marine; a couple of summer time races including a start in the Queen’s Plate did not result in any production; he makes his way back off the shelf for $19,000 and wins the services of Hernandez; he seeks his fourth win in this event for non winners of three. MICK THE CONQUEROR ran well last time for $9,500 with a nice outside move to be second; he runs for twice that price here. FLYING GHOST was in against unbeatable runners last time and had a double digit loss; the time before he was also in very tough but finished second against a key winner; the third place finisher has come back to win. O’KRAM had everything perfectly measured December 7th for a win for $6,000 against non winners of two at a rout; he got good at the half way point and widened the rest of the way.

RACE #8 BANNON 1 ANOTHER TIME - BEST BET 8 CASPIAN JEWEL 3 DANCING DOLL 6 GLITTERING SNOW ANOTHER TIME was able to win second time out benefitting from some good earlier prepping; she handled the seven furlongs quite well to draw off and she galloped out smartly; her challenge is different here as she must travel only six furlongs; she worked December 2nd in 47 for Barbara Minshall. A B CODEOFHONOR added lasix and blinkers for her second start and dropped for $25,000 and that was a perfect front end combination for a win at low odds; she went back up in value last time and was out of the money and has been freshened coming to this event with some smart works. DANCING DOLL was a maiden winner two starts ago and tried the Glorious Song Stakes last time where she bobbled leaving the gate at seven furlongs; she drafted behind runners and then made her way forward but wasn’t a threat to the top three; she moves to a first allowance event after a couple of good recent works for Nick Nosowenko who’s stable has momentum late in the year. TALLULAH DARLING made all kinds of mistakes last time; she came out and bothered a runner at the break and then interfered with a rival at the top of the stretch and was demoted and placed sixth; she has since had a work in company getting ready in 49.4. TWITTER STORM was perfectly handled last time as she got up near the pace and then took over with a surge and galloped out smartly for $40,000; she is protected here at the first allowance level. GLITTERING SNOW departed an out of the money finish on turf to win on Tapeta at seven furlongs last time and her stamina was the key as the second and third place finishers were closing quickly; she shortens to six furlongs. ROYAL WEDDING continues to do well with rallies; most recently, she surged once she was repositioned off the rail and was second and galloped out strongly; she moves up to an open first allowance race. CASPIAN JEWEL debuted October 6th and took only a hint of support but was clear at the end in that race; she had been well prepared by John Mattine for Norseman Racing Stable; she was forced to scratch November 7th but has had three works since that incident getting ready for her second career start. SWEET BRYNLIE gave it up late in her opener to, Royal Wedding, and finished second; second time out she shortened to five furlongs to persist while drifting out through the stretch.

JIM BANNON’S JOURNAL DECEMBER 14TH, 2018

RACE #9 BANNON 8 MISS ARTIE DECO 7 RATTLESNAKE BITE 10 ASHA IRONBORN 2 HAPPYCREST

HANCHY competed in the snow December 5th and had some late life advancing from twelfth to be fifth when, Happycrest, was better in third. HAPPYCREST moved between runners and showed life with a furlong remaining last time and was finally third for $8,000; like some of the others exiting the same race she is up in value. JULIE’S TAP DANCER was in the same most recent race as the third place finisher, Happycrest, and came around rivals outside and finished fourth. PETITE AMIE was in a key race last time from which the top two have both come back to win; for her part she moved trying to steal away in the middle stages but the pace was too fast at that juncture and she finished eleven lengths behind. SOUTH BEACH SASSY looks like a run on type but wasn’t able to win in two starts at Fort Erie in the summer time and now comes off the shelf. FLECK couldn’t keep up with the others December 5th for $8,000 when she closed belatedly; blinkers are added. RATTLESNAKE BITE was thought to be a wake up prospect December 2nd when leaving out of the money finishes on turf to go for $10,000 on Tapeta; she stayed on nicely to be third against a well regarded top pair; she looks to be a natural one to extend to a route. MISS ARTIE DECO went long two starts ago for $19,000 and finished third and that race gives her standing here; most recently, she tried to move in the middle stages when the pace was too fast and she finished third against a well regarded top pair; she comes down for $12,500. EASY BID made a run to the furlong marker last time and then hung in the last eighth of a mile; she puts the blinkers on here. ASHA IRONBORN tried a four wide dash up on the pace last time for $20,000 and she was beaten only four lengths; she now drops sharply for $12,500 for a winning jockey/trainer combo.

RACE #10 BANNON 11 DIVINE DANCE 5 GREENFIELD 13 ADMIRALS COVE 1 BOURBON SOUL 3 KEEN GIZMO

BOURBON SOUL had a winning route two starts ago then cut back to a sprint December 2nd with a jump in value and finished second to a stable mate, Admirals Cove, who set all of the pace and that one is in here; he must stretch back to a route. CAT ZAPPER got delayed in his previous event in a starter event; most recently, the slow pace was in his favour but he rated off the lead of, Admirals Cove, and then chased along in fourth after that. KEEN GIZMO took a big drop when he left turf November 9th second time off the shelf and finished fifth beaten four lengths; he angled outside but hung; he takes the next drop in now for $12,500. BADJEROS BOY has been at the high end of a class ladder the past while but dropped for $19,000 three starts ago and narrowly missed but when he dropped to that level last time he closed too late; he now runs at a reduced evaluation seeking an initial win of the campaign. GREENFIELD found some comfort in the $20,000 range when trying to win his third career score and he took it two starts ago with a late run; most recently, he was protected in a first allowance race where he wasn’t beaten far with a late close and now he runs for just $12,500; Fukumoto rides. ROCKET PLAN has been doing well at lower levels and was second last time for $10,000 and had been claimed at that price earlier; he was beaten at the last instant by the late running, Cito, who is here. KITTEN’S SOLUTION went from a route to a sprint last time and it took him a while to deal with the much faster pace and then he closed late in third; he stretches back to a route. DECISION DAY took the big drop for just $10,000 off the shelf November 18th and he was received in a tepid fashion at 5-1 but he did gain well to be on the edges in fifth when, Cito, was the winner and, Rocket Plan, was second. CITO was seeking his second win over his last four trips November 18th and he made it in time for $9,500 getting up at the last instant to beat, Rocket Plan. BEAR AT LAST was a winner three starts ago at the direct expense of, Admirals Cove, and then finished on the edges when, Badjeros Boy, was a bit better; most recently, the speed of the winner was too much for him and he had a letdown performance and now devalues; he rates a look with Wilson now riding. DIVINE DANCE had a good enough race two starts ago for $25,000 when second best; perhaps one can look beyond that last loss as Garcia gives him a vote of confidence at this reduced evaluation; he does have closing potential. R U WATCHINGBUD couldn’t overcome a slow pace last time when, Admirals Cove, had the elements in his favour and he finished third with, Bourbon Soul, second; he stretches out. ADMIRALS COVE went long in his previous event to win on the lead when he beat the bias; most recently, he had the elements in his favour in a race where speed was carrying; he proved best against his mate, Bourbon Soul, and the late running, R U Watchingbud; he must stretch back to a route.
