ANZAC DAY COMMEMORATIONS

Traditionally our school conducts an annual ANZAC DayCommemoration Service and our students participate in localANZAC Day events. I believe it is vital to continue this traditionfor our students, staff and community and to take the time toremember and thank all the men and women who have andare currently serving in the armed forces. We are organising thefollowing for this week.

ANZAC DAY Commemoration Service

Our School Leaders lead us through our school ANZAC DayCommemoration. We had filmed the commemoration and willbe uploaded for parents and students via online learningplatforms and our P&C Facebook page.

COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION IN ‘LIGHT UPTHE DAWN’

As we are unable to participate in dawn services or other localANZAC Day marches and services this year, we thought itwould be great to encourage our school community to becomeinvolved in ‘Light up the Dawn’ this Saturday, 25 April at 6am.This year, let’s stand in our driveways, on our balconies or inour living rooms holding our candles to remember all those whohave served and sacrificed for our freedom.

To support this, we have arranged for students at home andat school to make a candle holder (see photo) for ‘Light up theDawn’ and a wreath to hang on their letterbox/front door/fenceetc.

We would love to see photos of your familyparticipating in this event. You can sharephotos of your family's activities to our P&CFacebook group - simply request to join theJSS Support Squad via the Jindalee StateSchool P&C Facebook page. Once yourmembership has been approved, go to thePhotos section and look for the Anzac 2020album - photos can be uploaded directly to here. GRIP Student Leadership Conference

At the end of last month, our student leadership team waslucky enough to be able to attend the GRIP StudentLeadership Conference at Chandler. This conference wasattended by about 60 schools from around South-EastQueensland. GRIP stands for Generosity, Responsibility,Integrity and People. These values were the primary focus ofeach of our activities.

This conference helped us improve our leadership skills andteamwork ability. It also helped me improve personallybecause now I know how to uphold my leadership positionbetter. At the conference we learned a lot, especially in theLoud Noises session where we had to listen carefully tounderstand and participate in the activity.

Overall, we would like to bring back all the values that welearnt so that our leadership team can be successful in 2020.I would like to thank Senior Constable Ben Harm, the JindaleeGolf Club and Mrs Cooke for making this day possible. We allhad a great time and look forward to the opportunity to usethese skills to help you.

Our Student Leadership Team went to the GRIP LeadershipConference. This conference was attended by many studentsacross Queensland. GRIP was an amazing experience for allof us, and at the same time was extremely good fun!

At the beginning of the day, we were given a booklet that wehad to fill out during the day. Personally, my favourite part ofthe GRIP conference was the Loud Noise sessions in betweenlessons. They are an extremely fun way to get out all of ourenergy and noise, so we were ready to listen until the nextbreak.

During these sessions, we were split into two sides and wewould do competitions and games, and would be shoutingand yelling the entire way through. When some of our Jindaleestudents joined the activities, we all cheered extremely loud.

At the GRIP conference, we learnt that there is more to beingjust a good role model, but it this means leading the way. Wealso learnt that good ideas and projects don’t have to cost alot of money. It also showed us it is ok to make mistakes aslong as you don’t deny them.

The GRIP conference was extremely social and veryinformative. We were often talking to students from differentschools and sharing ideas. It was entertaining and we all hada lot of fun.

With the guidance of Constable Ben Harm, Mrs. Cooke andthe ten school leaders attended a leadership conference atSleeman Sports Centre called GRIP. We went on a mini buskindly donated by Jindalee Golf Club. GRIP stands forGenerosity, Responsibility, Integrity and People.

At the conference there were three sessions. In session 1 welearnt about leading the way in our school and out of school. We also learnt that anyone can be leader whether they have abadge or not.

In session 2, we were learning about two topics: topic 1.Generosity and topic 2. Ideas to lead the way. For topic1 we focused on the character traits of generosity andunpacked various ways that student leaders can usegenerosity to influence others by using fun role plays, storiesand discussions. Topic 2 was about: ideas to lead the way.We learnt that leading the way is about taking action. Thisfocus showcased dozens of practical ideas that students inthe past have implemented in other schools around Australia.

In session 3 we were learning how to bring our own ideasto life. We discovered that to lead the way, a student leadershould follow through and bring their idea to life. This topictaught us a helpful four-step acronym for bringing our ideas tolife: Introduce, Demonstrate, Encourage, Others, Advance.

Then we had a Q&A with the GRIP Leadership Team.

In between each topic, the Loud Noise Brothers would comeand make some loud noises with us. This was the best part ofthe conference!

The GRIP Student Leader Conference was an amazing event. It had different activities about leadership skills. Our leadershipteam got a GRIP booklet. We had to complete the bookletby listening to the people who were informing us how to be agreat leader. However, this event wasn’t just learning. We hada lot of fun games. Some of the games were dancing activitieswhen we had to copy the moves of the students when theywere on stage.

We also had different kinds of people informing us like theLoud Noise Boys. The Loud Noise Boys liked being very loud.Their role was to get our energy up and going, and to choosestudents to join in their fun activities.

One of the skills I learnt about being a leader was three simplesteps of leading the way:

Know the way means I have to know to respect people orknow the rules. Go the way means to do it and Show the waymeans to show other students do the right thing.

This day was very informative but fun at the same time.

The 2020 Student Leadership team were lucky enough toattend the GRIP Student Leadership Conference on 28February 2020.

This course provided us with a learning opportunity to becomebetter leaders and provide Jindalee State School with Leaderswho have the potential to become great leaders and improvestudents schooling experience.

This was a full day Leadership course that focused on‘Leading the Way’ including, planning skills to help us ‘Knowthe Way’, ‘Go the Way’ and ‘Show the Way’. What this meansis for someone to be a leader they need to know what isexpected and to act the way we expect others to act and thento show others how to do what is expected.

The highlight of this course was the different tasks that testedour skills and ability to apply what we were there to learn. One particular task was pairing up with someone and havingthem explain how to draw an object without telling us what thepicture was going to be. This was testing our skills in 2 ways- 1. Providing instructions to another person; 2. How anotherperson would interpret how we explain things.

Overall, this was a great opportunity to understand how tobecome better leaders and we will all be sure to apply themto our roles as Jindalee State School Leaders in 2020 andthroughout our lives.

Letters of Support

This week, in 4W, we took some time out of our curriculumwork to discuss the current situation and how people may beaffected. We wrote letters and drew pictures to create as manynotes as we could to share joy, gratitude and positivity to thosewho need it. The doctors and nurses were very grateful toreceive the letters and the kids were so excited to be able to dosomething to help.

Camp Goodenough

4 March could not come quick enough for 120 excited Year5 students and staff to head over the border to CampGoodenough. Although greeted with heavy rain, ouranticipation was not dampened. What a variety of adventurousactivities from billy cart making, and of course, test-drivingthem, to crate stacking, the record of 18 being met. Theneven higher to the giant swing, where many a scream washeard. Some completed the muddy obstacle course and otherscompleted the indoor rock climbing challenges. Who said campfood was ordinary? Most had seconds. Who would havethought ice cream would be on the menu? The washing upwasn’t too bad.

Camp was great for hanging out with friends and making newones. Everyone had a go and tried out the new activities. Whata great camp!

Harmony Day

Serena and Janaki from 5/6H celebrated Harmony Day bywearing an Indian dress called a Churidar. This is mostly wornall around India. Churidar is a tight fitting trouser worn by bothmen and women. Women usually wear it with a tunic, andmen generally wear a kurta. This eternal piece of clothing hasgraced all forms of Indian ethnic wear and fashion for centuries. Most women wear churidars when going out or even at home. They also wear sarees when attending functions like weddings, birthdays and funerals.
