ACCESS TO HOSPITAL

The majority of hospital admissions come

through the Emergency Department,

which can be considered the primary

entrance into a hospital.

A physician is the only health professional

who has the authority to admit and/or

discharge patients from a hospital.



ADMITTING DEPARTMENT

At the Admitting Department, the patient will

be required to provide personal information,

as well as, sign certain consent forms before

being taken to the hospital unit.

Depending on the assessment, the

physician may arrange for further

assessment.



EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT

Emergency department nurses continue tocare for you.

The emergency doctor will provide care in the

case of a life-threatening event.

You will be given choices and menus for meals. Some people are placed on restricted

diets.

• ICU- Generally reserved for the sickest

people.

• CCU- Reserved for people with heart

problems.

• SIU- For people who have had surgery.

• PICU- For children.• NICU- For newborns.
